Hi, I have a unix server which I have access to, and would like to create a share that is accessible from win9x, NT, and windows 2000. I am running samba version 2.0.6 which is the version you get with HP-UX 11.i I don't work for my companies IT department, so I do not have access to the DC or BDC. However, DNS and WINS work fines and resolves the hostname that I am using. I have created a share and I can view the share from my PC, but when I try and connect to the share, I am unable to gain access to the share. I am not too interested in security, so I started off at security level share, but I have also tried security level user. Below is the some info that might assist #smbclient //hostname/users -U andrew%andrew added interface ip=a.b.c.d bcast=a.b.c.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session setup failed: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.) I have vi'd the file "/var/opt/samba/private/smbpasswd" and there are entries in that file for a user name andrew. Just to make sure the entry is valid I used this command to re-enter the password # /opt/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a andrew andrew But I did get the following errors getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (passwd too short) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (passwd too short) Added user andrew. getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (passwd too short) Password changed for user andrew. However, when I do it for a second time it works fine. I have a "gut feeling" that I have not created the users correctly. Thanks in advance Andrew
Ok, sorry folks, but here I am again: I installed samba2.2.3a on a suse 7.3 and everything (well, I tried an 'everybody' share and it's ok) works fine until it comes to winbind et al. The very first thing that's supposed to be tested is the wbinfo -g or -u. It tells me 'Error looking up domain users'. The winbindd logfile states '002c status: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED'. The server I want to authenticate against is w2k server sp2. The security log on the w2k server shows anonymous_authentication failed 'MAX_REACHED' (I translated this, in german it's 'MAX_ERLAUBT'. The effect is that I don't get a list of users in the domain and I cannot authenticate. The join process seems to have worked, a MACHINE.SID and secrets.tdb have been created. --------------------------------------------------------- | Peter Koch Schlund & Partner AG | | mailto:peter.koch@schlund.de Erbprinzenstr. 4-12 | | T. 0721-91374-687 D-76133 Karlsruhe | | F. 0721-91374-20 | ---------------------------------------------------------
It seems as if winbind tries to use anonymous access to the w2k server to do the listing. The w2k server doesn't like it, and I can't tell it to accept it. Isn't winbind supposed to use the shared secret stored in the secrets.tdb ?> -----Original Message----- > From: _pkliste > Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 9:09 PM > To: samba@lists.samba.org > Subject: [Samba] Authentication Problem > > > Ok, sorry folks, but here I am again: > > I installed samba2.2.3a on a suse 7.3 and everything (well, I > tried an 'everybody' share and it's ok) works fine until it > comes to winbind et al. > > The very first thing that's supposed to be tested is the > wbinfo -g or -u. Hello, we have only a problem with samba in our Solaris 8 server and it is with IIS 5 in Windows 2000. We want to use a shared samba folder to put our html pages in, to use IIS how our web server and to use that shared samba folder how our web document root in IIS. But it doesn?t work, there is always a "Netlogon failure" in the web broser when I'm trying to access http://localhost in the web server. We can use that shared folder in Windows and we can use "net use t: \\solarisserver\sharedfolder" and all working fine, but when I use a web browser there is a authentication problem. What's the problem??? Thank you very much, Carlos Ufano Gonz?lez -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
Hi Folks, I got a little problem with authentication. I set up samba 3.0.0 and squid 2.5stable4, using winbind to authenticate users via group with the nt4 domain pdc. Anyway... sometimes the authorization/authentication doesn't work. In the first test I had no problems surfing the net via proxy, and some minutes later I get an access denied message with the same user... so this is this a samba problem I think (for I see in the cache.log that the wbinfo_group.pl script returns that the user isn't in the specified group, for I think that he has problems communicating with the domain PDC via samba) Anyway got an idea?
