Mysterious connection disappearances
I installed a samba server about a week ago for a client and have been having some trouble with it. The two problems that occur are: 1. The "Microsoft mail postoffice" occasionally has files with deny_all locks on them that prevent other users from sending email to the user. My first impression was that this was an Outlook issue, but rebooting the entire (client) computer does not

1.4 Random disconnects
Hi, We just upgraded to 1.4 and I'm noticing weird issues. I have noticed that asterisk stops running and I need to restart in order for us to receive calls. We receive our calls via a local sip provider over a dedicated T-1. We never have had an issue before until the upgrade to 1.4. It seems like asterisk gets hung up on a certain call and dumps. Anyone else noticing anything like

Creating SMB shares with SWAT
Hello, When I create a share with SWAT, it generally takes 5-10 minutes before I can browse to the share from an SMB client. If I kill the smbd and nmbd daemons and restart them manually, this of course, makes the shares show up immediately. Obviously, this delay is waiting for Samba to reload the smb.conf and create the shares. It doesn't seem that using the "restart" button next

SWAT not saving a conf file!
Hey guys, I've been using samba for quite some time now (over a year). I have a problem however, and that is that I can not seem to get SWAT to work properly. I need to have SWAT working for some of the management cluebies around here (bad idea if you ask me). Anyways, everything for SWAT is fully installed, and it appears that it works properly. Theres just one problem. You can't save

Calls being disconnected across VPN
Hey All, Sometimes we are running into issues with calls randomly being disconnected. We have a couple of phones is in a remote office. We have a PIX-to-PIX VPN setup between the offices. I know neither of these devices provide QOS but we usually don't run into any problems. I notice this problem when we are in a conference call with one of the employees at the remote office and a

SWAT won't run
Dear SAMBA users, I finally managed to install the libc.so.5 and now the compile for SAMBA 2.0.3 took a bit longer than before ;). But another problem still remains: Here in our network (Win95-clients) I'm the only one who can login to samba with my username and password - all the other people - be it using my name/password or their own ones - can not login anymore. Furthermore SWAT

swat: bug located
Great job on SWAT. I'm a hard-core UNIX guy, and I like my vi and whatnot. But it's nice to see a functional web interface. It could use some more work--but great job so far! Anyway, I found a core-dump-causing-bug. I was curious as to whether or not swat limited addition of passwords to the smbpasswd file by the users that exist in the system's /etc/passwd file. I was relativly

Digital UNIX - root authentication for SWAT
We have installed versions (1.9.18 and 2.0.3) of Samba successfully on AIX based servers without any problems. We are now trying to install Samba v2.0.4b onto a Digital UNIX 4.0d server. Everthing has installed correctly. Shares can be created through editing the smb.conf file and then accessed correctly through our NT network as desired. The problem we have is using the SWAT interface. We can

SWAT: How do I save the settings?
Hi, I might have overlooked something very obvious, but: I am running Samba 2.0.3 on a SuSE 6.0 system. When I connect to SWAT, I can see all the settings in the Globals sections, I can change them, but I can't find any button anywhere to *save* these changes... Can anyone help? :)avid <>< David A. Rsync and open files
I didn't see this answered in the FAQ, and it's important to one of my application owners. How does RSYNC handle open or write in process files? Thank you! How to test WINS functionality and swat question
Hi, The two servers I will mention are HP-UX 10.20 with samba-2.0.3 I've setup a dual-homed host and face two challenges. All of a sudden swat has stopped serving web pages. I did no radical changes to the smb.conf file (via swat) and now I get a "web server found, waiting for answer" message and it just stays there, I can find no relevant error message in the log files.

Brand new install and Swat will not accept root passwd????
Hello Fellow Samba users, I have a question. I installed today, FreeBSD 3.1 and put Samba 2.0.3 on. When I compiled Samba, did cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpaswd.sh > /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd and then did smbpasswd -a root and entered passwd ( no different than original passwd). I can start swat but when it asks for username and passwd, it fails to authenticate me. My root passwd is

year extraction over a list
Hello, I have a data frame, one element in that data frame is a LIST, with each element being a character string. I am trying to extract the first year listed in each of those character strings. The character elements are typically csv, but the position of the year can vary (think citations with varying citation standards). I.e., foo$a [[1]] [1] text, text, 2001, text [2] text, 2000, text [3]

SWAT authentication problem
I just installed Samba 2.0.3 on my Redat 5.2 system. When I point my browser to http://localhost:901/, SWAT prompts me for the username and password. I type in root, and then roots password, but the authorization always fails. I have tried accessing from an outside machine (which I would not normally do), I have tried changing roots password.I tried it both with shadowed passwords, and

indexing in data frames
I'm still not fully understanding exactly how R is handling data frames, but am getting closer. Any help with this one will likely go a long way in getting me there. Let's say I have a data frame, let's call it "a". Within that data frame i have two variables, let's call them "b" and "c", where "b" is a single numeric value per observation,
