I just installed Samba 2.0.3 on my Redat 5.2 system. When I point my browser to http://localhost:901/, SWAT prompts me for the username and password. I type in root, and then roots password, but the authorization always fails. I have tried accessing from an outside machine (which I would not normally do), I have tried changing roots password.I tried it both with shadowed passwords, and non-shadowed passwords. Here is my config.: Redhat 5.2, with all of the updates (for pam, ftp, etc.) 192 MB RAM Dual 200MHz CPUs over 28 GB of storage Netscape 4.08 Gnome 1.0 What is the problem? Am I doing something wrong? I haven't been able to access the Samba volumes via windows clients yet either. But I know this is a largly unrelated issue becuase I have had this SWAT authentication problem when the samba volume access via windows clients was working perfectly. Is it possible that the pam rpm update from redhat for 5.2 could be causeing the authentication failure? I have gotten SWAT to work with shadow passwords just fine before.... Hai, I just installed samba 3.0-a23 and wanted to have a look at swat, but authentication fails for user root. There was another thread about this with the same problem (samba-2.2.8), but I never saw a solution mentioned is there anyone who knows what might be causing swat to non-authenticate. Second question, I'm running another samba server (3.0-a22) as pdc on the network which I would like to use as password server for the second samba server, is this possible and if so where can I find documentation on this subject? It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the various how-to's I could find. I tried by putting: security = server password server = <aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd> in the global section of smb.conf , but that didn't work, do I need to do something special on the pdc allso?
