Linux vs NT: a new test
Don't know how many ppl saw/read the following:
http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news/0,4153,1015266,00.html
One of the comments on Slashdot was the question as to how well 4.4lite
would have done in the same tests, as they "theorize" that alot of the
problems revolve around Linux's IP stack...
Now if only we had a working MMAP, we'd be all set...

comentator's article
This is an article I came across on zdnet.com. You may or may not
agree with it. Personally, I don't.
Anyway, here's the link to it. I thought some of you might want to read
it, and form your own opinion.

Thanks for the help on the wireless problem.

ZDNet reviews Samba 2.2
eWeek reviewed Samba 2.2 at :
http://www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2712294,00.html
- they seem to like it !
It's certainly encouraging to get trade coverage like
this, I'm hoping the more people who report Samba use
in their organisation to press outlets will encourage
them to cover more Open Source/Free Software products !
Cheers,
Jeremy Allison,
Samba Team.

Linux TCP flaw
Hi
So after reading this, felt I should apply the fix to a CentOS6 VPS that
I have.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-tcp-flaw-lets-anyone-hijack-internet-traffic/
The article doesn't talk about CentOS or Redhat, but I assume the
problem is the same, and hoping the solution is the same.
However that doesn't seem to be the case.

Boot failed on latest CentOS 7 update
Questions re this statement in the ZDNET article --
"In all cases, users reported that downgrading systems to a previous
release to reverse the BootHole patches usually fixed their problems."
A previous release of what? GRUB2
So that's my first question.
Second. I'm assuming the the muti-screen UEFI settings I see are standard
for more recent BIOS -- not sure of version. Do

Wine WMF vulnerability?
Hi,
I recently read about that Wine is vulnerable against the WMF bug
that was recently closed on Windows. Is it really true?
Is Wine really as bug-for-bug compatible with Windows? :-)

about new Centos SIG distro releases
Hello,
Kinda confused, will CentOS new SIGs: CentOS Storage, CentOS Cloud, and
CentOS Virtualization, CentOS Core, etc be a developmental path to future
RHEL releases, or will they continue be an exact clone of RHEL, like
Centos currently is?

I think I figured out how to get wine to run the .net framework very well
I have recently heard about the silverlight project. The silverlight project is a plugin released by Microsoft for Linux that allows the use of .Net based apps on Linux. My only disagreement with using this plugin is the fact that Microsoft has been accessing XP and Vista systems without permission and changing software as stated by ZDnet. They call it Stealth Updating. Anyway that does not mean

Issues with CentOS in enterprise
Hello all.
Does anybody have experience with pushing CentOS in enterprise?
I have the following situation. I tried to promote CentOS to local bank. They have now a couple of Gentoo-based systems and I tried to explain them that CentOS is much better option for enterprises.
IT department is interested in stability of the system, so they are ready to give CentOS a try. But the problem came from

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there.
While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems
I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder.
First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76
on Windows 98 SE.
1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended
in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played.

ABR or CBR?
Just in case my quotation causeed misunderstnaing...
Forget about what I quoted before. Probably, by CBR, Monty meant ABR
since CBR is stupidly patented and this is the reason why Vorbis has
no CBR option. If you know this, it cannot be a problem but I see there
is a question asking what is ABR in the mailing list.

FUD or foolishness? Windows XP Home and Samba
Steven Vaughan-Nichols at Ziff-Davis said:
| Unlike all other previous Microsoft operating systems, XP
| Home will simply not work in an office network environment
| with NetWare, NT, Samba, or Windows 2000 servers. Period.
| You simply can't connect to the servers' domains or their

Which sounds like they took the SMB client out...
