PC Backup Script?
I am trying to setup my Sun running samba 1.9.18p10 so that it can backup my dept's PCs. I can get it to work manually using the smbclient command with no problem. What I would like to do is have a script that is able to take a list of PCs, determine if a PC is online, backup that PC, then move on to the next one. If a PC is down, it can report an error to the admin to state that the

[LLVMdev] Eliminating dead copies
Maybe it's because I've got a lot of two machine operand instructions and have to rely on the tied-to constraint, but I'm seeing a lot of dead reg-to-reg copy instructions, e.g.: ori $3, $3, 0 (Cell SPU's version of reg-to-reg copy, looks a lot like PPC, no?) Is there any way I can detect when this occurs, or is there code where this detection takes place in the target to which

[LLVMdev] LLVM 3.2 release notes + LLVM Users
The LLVM 3.2 release is winding down, and that means release notes! There are two pieces to this. First, if you're an external LLVM user, we'd like to list you as such in the release notes. This is a great way to get some free advertisement. The section is here: http://llvm.org/viewvc/llvm-project/llvm/branches/release_32/docs/ReleaseNotes.html?revision=HEAD#externalproj Please email

in a rails3 - rspec then require 'authlogic/test_case' and now I broke stuff?
I''m a newb here and probably shouldn''t be using Rails3 yet to start with, but for some reason I was feeling adventurous. I''m also learning to use rspec along the way and things ''were'' working out with my ''rake spec'' until I tried to follow some examples for test Authlogic with rspec. I ''think'' what started the

[LLVMdev] LLVM 3.0 release notes ARM Target
I've done a first pass over the past 6 months of changes and some notable things stood out: * The ARM backend has reworked Set Jump Long Jump EH Lowering. * The ARM backend includes improved support for Cortex-M * The ARM backend adds parsing and encoding ARM/Thumb/Thumb2 assembly There are also many many code generation improvements which select more optimal instructions. Those seemed

Maxtor NAS share problem
I have a network accessible (192.168.2.97) Maxtor Shared Storage drive that I want to use to backup the Linux (Slackware) systems on my private LAN. I can "smbmount" the drive okay on my Linux systems, but when I try and use rsync to do a backup rsync fails with a message about failing to change owner. Digging a little deeper into the problem I find that the directories/files on

Customflags problem?
I'm new here, but I'll just jump right in. I've been using Dovecot with Fedora for a bit with the default mbox format. I recently transitioned to the Maildir format since some users were getting mailboxes in excess of 1GB in size, which made expunging and flagging no easy task. Anyway, it appears now with Maildir, that customflags are "added" instead of

Lotus NOtes & Replication
I have two PCs I use Linux on that I need to be able to run Lotus Notes on. Wine works exceptionaly well on one of these PCs, my HP OmniBook 500. Everything works including replication. My other PC is a desktop unit running the same os (RH 7.1) and the same version of wine (Winex from cvs (20011004)). Notes works on this machine except that I am unable to get replication to work. When I try

Identifying print source; "no interface found..." err. msg
Hi, The following pertains to samba 1.9.18p10 running on AIX 4.2.1; clients are mostly WIN95 with primary login Novell Netware (Netware/ZEN client 2.50). 1. The way the printing system is setup here, is that users send their printouts to some queue (which is always down); when they want to get their output, they "find" their job on a nearby terminal (running laixsoft's

CANNOT BROWSE (the solution)
Hi all. I?m using the binary distribution of SAMBA 1.9.16 on SCO3.2v4.2. Last weekend we got a new server. Installed all applications and all worked fine (as expected) ... but: the win/nt clients could map the shares, but they could not browse the SAMBA-box! I checked the "browseable=" options, but everything looked ok. Increasing the debug level and stepping through the logfiles

DOS wildcards w/ 2.0.5a
I've recently set up a new server running RH 6.1 and Samba 2.0.5a. All our older servers are running 1.9.18p10, and were left that way on the "If it ain't broke" principle. On the new server, I've noticed that DOS wildcards don't work correctly for some (but not all) old 16-bit DOS programs running under Win95/98. The symptom is that the program only

UXTheme and Vista Styles potential problem
Sure I know vista styles tend to use png images, but I seem to have noticed a potential problem. Unless wine has its own window manager, styles like Windows Aero may look very strange in wine. Reason: Aero is intended to be a unified look and imagine a partial glass look with metacity chopping off part of the theme. Also, how would we know were to start drawing in the aero image resource if we

Samba 2.0.0 Beta5 released.
The Samba Team is pleased to announce Samba 2.0.0 Beta5 This is the fifth of (hopefully) a short series of Beta releases of the 2.0.0 code and incorporates bug fixes and changes from feedback gained from the earlier betas. Show-stopper bugs notwithstanding, this is expected to be the last beta release before the official ship of the stable Samba 2.0.0 release, so it is very important for people

Samba 2.0.0 release soon
Hi all, We're putting together the final Samba 2.0.0 release, hopefully to ship sometime next week. I'm currently writing a press release to send to the technology news Web and print sites, and was wondering if anyone who is currently using Samba would agree to be quoted in the press release. You know the sort of thing (I'm sure you've seen it in many other press releases :-)
