why use lmhost is samba1.9.18.p7
Hello samba gurus I have used samba1.9.18.p4 since jan/1998. I have FreBSD 2.2.6 and samba1.9.18p4 worked just fine. I read in bugtraq that a new version of samba has been released and I thought in upgrade to samba1.9.18.p7 Well I did the same things that I did when I compiled samba1.9.18.p4 1.Edit the Makefile ( I edit the same lines as samba1.9.18.p4) 2.make 3.make installbin Everything

RedHat 5.2 system can't use security=user
I am trying to get samba-2.0.3 up on my RedHat 5.2 system. I've gone through the diagnosis.txt file, and test 3 fails -- none of the reasons listed apply. This is consistent with a Win9x or WinNT client attempting to connect. What's even more puzzling is the log.<clientname> file is created when I attempt to connect, but is 0 length! By the way, 1.9.x didn't give me any

Help: failed to obtain active lock & bad password
Hi folks, I'm trying to install a pre-compiled version of Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 7. For the most part, Samba appears to work except I got 2 errors: - Whenever Windows 9?/2K users access any of the shares, I get this message in the samba log: [2001/12/21 15:09:25, 0] tdb/tdbutil.c:tdb_log(342) tdb(/usr/local/admin/samba-2.2.2/private/secrets.tdb): tdb_reopen: failed to obtain active

Samba encrypt passwd
Hi, I have samba installed on my Linux system (Red Hat 7.2), and Windows 98 on another PC as a Samba client. Samba works great if PlainTextPassword is enabled. However, if PlainTextPassword is disabled on Windows client, connection to the Samba shares no longer accepted. I believe I've done everything in order to make encrypt passwd working: * I converted /etc/passwd to

SUMMARY: Bad Password
I got the answer. I set up swat and found that security was set to user. When I set it to share things work like they did in 1.9.18p10. The manpages say that security = share is the default but I don't think so. Original question: This is the first problem I have had with samba, that I can't find the answer to, since I first started to work with samba. I am running DecUNIX 4.0d and I

Head branch with "server = domain", login fails.
OK, I'm taking another run at this thing. My experiments with the TNG branch are on hold. I won't be allowed to put up a non-Microsoft domain controller anyway, so I'm stepping back to just putting up a good fileserver. I'm testing the head branch code under Solaris 7 on SPARC (calamity). The code I'm using was checked out yesterday. I've got three other Solaris 2.6

Selecting files to get...
Hello everybody, I'm using Samba Version 1.9.17p3 on an IRIX 6.2-based workstation and because I still have the same problem with the shares on the PC-box (I'll send my report to samba-bugs too), I need workaround in order to get the smbtar process running. Here's my problem (I hope it's not too long): I can see what's being shared by the Win95 box where I want to make the

Hi, I've just installed a binary version of Samba 2.0.3 on SCO 5.0.5 and am having some problems. I'm basically following "SAMS Teach yourself Samba in 24 hrs" book.
