AutoCAD R14 and Eagle Point
Samba List: Is anyone out there using AutoCAD R14 and Eagle Point? One of my clients received the latest version of Eagle Point, and the time to load files has become horrible. It has increased from 1 min to 15 min! All files are on the Linux server and the stations we did the initial tests with are PIII w/128MB RAM. The AutoCAD file loads quick, but once the Eagle Point files begin to load

AutoCAD R14 and Samba (PR#756)
There is clearly a problem with AutoCad R14 and Samba. I have sent a message to AutoDesk asking that they get in touch with us so that we can try to resolve this problem. Andrew

AutoCAD R14 and SAMBA 1.9.18pl8
Hello, We've had serious performance problems loading AutoCAD R14 .dwg files from a VAResearch VArServer 3000 (dual 400MHz PII, Red Hat 5.0, SAMBA 1.9.17p4, 256MB RAM, 36GB RAID5). The problem is that on first access, trying to read the .dwg file is very, very slow -- a 10MB .dwg file loaded from an NT4.0sp3 server using a win95 station using AutoCAD R14 and SoftDesk AutoArchitect takes in

Possibe Autocad R13 Fix found
I think I have a possible fix to the severe performance issues with using Autocad R13 on Samba file Servers. Performance usually ranges in the 12-40K/s range (according to NT Performance Monitor). This equals roughly a 1 minute wait to load a 600K drawing into Autocad, even on very high performance systems. Strangely enough, Autocad is able to write the file, VERY fast to the samba server, on

AutoCAD 2000 Network Install woes . . .
Has anybody run into install troubles on AutoCAD 2000 network version? The server is Samba 2.0.3 on Solaris 2.7 intel. Install went fine, but when i try to do a client setup I get an odd message about there being insufficient disk space. The installation is one of "Run from network", which should require relatively little space on the client (the client in question has nearly 400 megs

Request for AutoCAD help with Samba server!
Hi everyone, If you have experience using Samba < 2.0.7 with AutoCAD 2000/2000i or R14 on a LAN, where the Windows 2000 Professional clients running AutoCAD 2000/2000i are opening .dwg files and XREFS off of the server, particularly if you know tips on tuning Samba's performance so that AutoCAD reports it can't find files on the server or load XREFs, please either post your comments to

Performance Issues with AutoCad 2003
Hello, we are using a Samba server (3.0.2a) here at work. It's running on a dual 1.4ghz opteron with two 250gig HD. Everything seems to be running fine except for AutoCad (which is the main program we run). Any time we try to save it can take up to 10 seconds, or each time we try to print it can take about the same amount of time to bring up the print dialog. I am only serving about 6

Samba AutoCAD 2007 high CPU after printing
Hi List, I'm having some problems with Samba 2.0.10 and AutoCAD drawings, specifically when a user prints a CAD file, an smbd process is spawned as smbuser (my guest account) which uses 99% CPU and never gives up, even after the job is fully printed and cups has moved on. This only happens when printing CAD files. Restarting samba doesn't help, the only thing I can do is 'kill

autodesk / autocad write problems
Anyone else have problems using autodesk products to save files to a samba share? It's saying there's no write permission, but there is. Copying files in explorer works fine. I've tried "max mux = 1" and "oplocks=no" in smb.conf, but neither helped. I found a reference to a similar bug for an old version of autocad, but supposedly it was fixed. -- Tom Vier

AutoCad 2004, Samba 3.0.11 & file locking issues
Sorry for such a long post as my first to the list, but in an effort to forego a long back and forth question/answer session via email, I think if I post all the information that I currently have someone may be able to more quickly spot my issue. The server in question is a Gentoo server running Samba 3.0.11. The basic problem is that when person A opens an AutoCad file, person B is unable to

Autocad v14 and Samba file locking problems
Has anyone had any problems when using Samba 16p9 (SunOS 4.1.3) and Autocad version 14 (NT 4) together ? We've recently upgraded to version 14 from 12 for NT 4 (SP3) and we're told by our suppliers that the file locking mechanisms are now handled through the OS instead of Autocad creating locks files which it did in version 12. We have problems accessing files on a shared drive. When one

SOLVED! Problem saving AutoCAD files
Hi folks, hi Tom I found the problem. Originally I did a 'chmod -R 1777 root:root /home'. This prevents users other than owner to delete files on the subdirs like my "condivisione" (see smb.inf below). Because the saving operation of autoCAD .dwg files involves several steps of create-rename-delete temporary file before save THE .dwg file, permissions "1777" avoid the

Samba just Slow with AutoCad?
Brian I might suggest a couple of setting changes on your XP machines: 1) Open services and stop/disable Web Client 2) Open windows explorer, go to tools>folder options, click the View tab, and uncheck the "Automatically search for network folders and printers" (I'm assuming Windows XP Professional on these settings) Restart and try your printers again. Some news for AutoCAD users
Well, finally some news that make Autocad almost perfect on wine. Tested on 2005 and 2008. To install AutoCAD, just follow the howto on appdb. Here the patchsets : 1) Multiline text editor crash : go to bug 14827 page (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14827) download and apply the patch to wine tree and rebuild/install it. Please don't ask how to do it.... it's on many places in
