Dovecot 2.3.6 on Solaris10: build issues, segfaults
Hopefully, there is some fix for issue 3 which is beyond my
skill to fix.
Issue 1) Need recent gcc version
Building Dovecot versions <=2.2.x using gcc 3.4.4 worked,
but this gcc version fails to build 2.3.x properly: symptoms
include compile failures and executable crashes that depended
on the amount of optimization used, which is usually a sign of
compiler bugs. (It could also be

dovecot-lda (2.1.12) segfaults
We uograded our dovecot from version 2.1.10 -> 2.10.12, but within
the first hour of use, dovecot-lda would segfault during delivery.
This left a lock file lying around causing the user's mail readers to
hang; much hilarity ensues. All further deliveries to the same user
will result in a crash.
The only thing that fixes this condition is to blow away the user's
INBOX cache index.

2.0.12 Coredump under Solaris 10
hi,
I've installed a testversion from 2.0.12 and getting coredumps after
login via IMAP/POP3. I don't know, if it is a simple config error or
something else.

domain_master_node_status_fail
I'm trying to set up Windows browsing between subnets. I've set up a domain
master/WINS server on the .0 subnet, and local masters on the .42 and .254
subnets, and I'm running into the above error on one - just one - of the
subnets. The strange thing is that I'm running exactly the same version of
RHEL on another subnet - and I'm getting no error.

Hi All,
can anyone make any sense of the error below, please advise if I need to log this as a bug but I'm not sure how to further diagnose what is happening. This is from my winbindd log file,
thanks Andy.

Samba Stopped Connecting on Me and I don't know why
Hello All,
I am having a problem trying to ger Samba wot work again. It was
working a few days ago and now it has stopped. My OpenVPN is working
just fine but Samba does not seem to find the names.
I was also trying to set it up so that the users could browse to our
PeoplesQuest workgroup after which they could login to their account.

Changed PDC IP, all hell broke lose
I had to move my RedHat 5 box acting as a PDC to a new IP address. It is
running samba 3.5.10. After the move, none of my windows or linux samba
clients worked anymore. I tried rejoining some to the domain, but would
get error

one opinion about searching samba docs for answers
It sure is hard to find info in the documentation/mailing list for a
specific error. If an error log message was created by smbd, nmbd, or
winbind, shouldn't the documentation contain a description, cause, and
possible solution?
Specific case in point:

Browse.dat not syncing
I'm not sure where else to turn for this, I've seen this problem mentioned
in a multiple places but haven't seen any resolution for it. Below is
what's showing up in my remote samba WINS server. My setup is that I've got
the samba servers connecting through a dedicated VPN. I've set up the WINS
to allow for browsing across the VPN. If anyone can help me out or point me

Cannot sync browser lists across subnets
I've recently setup a Samba Local Master Browser on a new subnet. It can
communicate on ports 137 and 138 across subnets with my Samba Domain
Master Browser, but when I query the Local Master, I don't get a
complete browse list.
The following entries shows up in /var/log/samba/log.nmbd at the local

browse list sync problem
I have a network with 3 subnets. There is a PDC one one subnet, and a
WINS server on each of the first two subnets which are replication
partners. (These three machines are running Windows 2000 Server.) So my
setup looks something like this:

I changed the ip on my samba 3.0.4 server from using dhcpd allotted

Now my windows clients get a message:
'the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted'
but it is contacting the domain because otherwise it would have given me
an error saying it can't find it.
I have done a gg: search to no avail

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Sometime after I installed samba and got everything working, one of my
colleagues changed the IP address on the box I did the install on. So
after I got passed all the other issues that plaqued me after moving
over to fedora 11, I discovered that I could not added Win clients to
the domain.
I dug into the log files:

Bug with syncing browser lists with a NetBIOS scope ID in place
Howdy all -- I have discovered a bug in samba (I'm running v2.0.5a) when a
NetBIOS scope ID is being used. Essentially, samba will use the configured
scope ID for everything except for when nmbd tries to do a node status on the
PDC as part of syncing the browser lists; when it does that node status, it
does it *without* the scope ID, and it fails.
Our network consists of a main IP subnet

wins.dat keeps coming back with bad information
I recently reconfigured a box running FreeBSD 5.3 with Samba v. 3.0.7
running as PDC. It was servicing 2 networks, processing logons for
192.168.200.0/24 and 192.168.115.0/24. The reason for 2 networks was
security, 115.0/24 had some stuff on it that the users on 200.0/24
shouldn't have access to. Before the reconfiguration, the system was
working 100%.
To make everything better I flattened
