Different policies for users on same machine. How?
How can we set up the policy working for different users (belonging to diffe rent groups) on the same win98 machine? Win98 looks up the netlogon share on our Samba server in security level = us er, domain logons = yes. It parses the config.pol file, but the only group policy defined that applie s to ANY user logging on is the one for Users group I added in Policy Editor .. eirvine

SAMBA 3.0.21b expired password issue for Solaris 9 - perhaps a bug in winbind or /etc/pam.conf misconfigure
All, The SAMBA version 3.0.21b expired password pam_winbind.so section perhaps might still have an issue. It seems to just be in some kind of loop and never completes the section in pam_winbind.c of pam_sm_chauthtok. See ssh (Solaris 4.2.p1 ssh) sequence below: ssh hermione Password: Changing password for leeraym (current) NT password: Re-enter new Password: Password: Password:

ProxyCommand commands don't exit
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've noticed that when I use ProxyCommand commands to connect, the commands do not exit when ssh exits. This results in a bunch of commands piling up on the machine over time. I experimented with four machines: linux-2.2.19+patches, openssh-3.0.1p1 linux-2.2.14+patches, openssh-3.0.1p1 freebsd-4.5-stable, openssh-2.9 localisations 20020307

Trouble with Skype
Hi, I've managed to get Skype running under Debian with the latest Debian release of wine. The sound is perfect, and there are no connection problems, but I noticed the following: 1) Sound from my microphone disappears ONLY when I start some other application or switch to another application. I can only vouch for this in KDE, and it happens whenever anything accesses the soundcard, so

Guild Wars 1 and Stops Win95 and Win98 Support
Dear Wine-Community! Guild Wars stops on 2012-14-06 the support for Windows 95,98. But since Wine-Users could switch the Windows version to Windows XP or above we are not effected.. are we? This should be an action to made the Guild Wars Client safer and to protect User Accounts. Couldn't guess what security Mechanism Windows 2000 do support that is missing in Windows 95 and 98. No doubt

printing - Win95 & Win98 not working - NT,2000, XP are ok.
Hi folks - I am having printing problems with our older machines. Printing is working okay for our Windows NT, 2000 and XP clients. However, with windows 95 & 98, the print job gets put into the Samba spool directory (path = /var/spool/lp/tmp/samba) but doesn't make it to the printer. The print files stay there in the directory - don't get removed. Samba version is 2.2.7a, on

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter, i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for something that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only thing perhaps interesting to you could be this: http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x I think the problem lyes in the new way samba

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine. I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing configuration. If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody, we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...) Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation. Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles, policy file etc? If not, what can I do? Q2:

3.0.22 on solaris9 does not start as daemon
I'm trying to start smbd (samba 3.0.22) as daemon (smbd -D --configfile=/etc/smb.conf) on solaris 9 sparc with current recommended patches but the smbd process never returns from trying to become a daemon. Samba was built with ldap, (heimdal) kerberos and active directory support using gcc 3.3.2 from sunfreeware. Solaris 9 is a new install on a development machine with production patches.

Win95 and Win98 - hanging while shutdown
Hallo! I have a small problem. As I installed a Samba-server at one of our customers (office of foreign affairs, AKA consulate), Win98r2 does not want to shut down, the system hangs. It looks like if Windows "forgets" to disconnect the services before shutdown (at least the system hangs - over night (!!) and according to logfiles the workstation has not made any disconnect). As I

SSH ?
I have a FTP server behind my firewall. Thanks to Tom it works. Next I would like protect the username and password. With out a firewall. I would just create a SSH user on the firewall and connect. I think the easiest way is to do this is to forward port 22 to my ftp server. Is there a way to have the firewall handle the ssh session and forward the rest of the packet to the ftp server. This

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful, but removing the writeable made no difference. Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98. Any other ideas? -peter. Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win98 and Win95
Hello! Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4 fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95 clients. My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling with it but i cant get

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP
You wrote: I have been disappointed that I can't use Linux+Samba as an alternative to a Win9x or NT server for our GP medical practice. The software we need runs in win9x. We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file server. It's normally quite fast: are you running over a dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for speed??? If not, try ``socket

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise... Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for this and none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either... If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to get these older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help! Have several
