Winpoopup via ppp
A short time ago I wrote regarding browsing a network from a remote site
connected via Windows 95 ppp - and recieved help - thank you. I enabled
WINS on the server and pointed the Win95 Network WINS setting to that IP
number.
Now... is there a way to get winpopup to send/recieve messages via that
same connection. At the moment, this happens:-

About File locking
Is there a way to lock an EXE file on a shared volumn in such a
way that only one person can use it at a time? With some kind of
sharing violation happening if a second person tries?
This is the latest version of SAMBA on a Linux box, and Win95
clients.
many thanks.

Domain logins via PPP?
Has anyone been able to do domain logins via a PPP link?
If so, how?
I am running FreeBSD 3.2. I have 2 network interface cards on the machine,
one to the internet, one to my local network. I am running ipfw (firewall
support), as well as nat (network address translation). I have a ppp link
which I am able to connect to. Once connected via ppp, I can
ping/ftp/telnet to any machine on my

Samba over a PPP connection
Hello,
we are trying access with a Windows98 portable computer to a SCO-Unix server over a telephone line PPP connection. After connection we can ping/telnet the server correctly but cannot "see" unix folder called "G:"; the same portable computer, over direct LAN connection it usually "see" perfectly.
Do you have suggestions to solve this problem?

Can I browse the network through PPP?
Hi,
I am using Windows 95 dial-up networking to connect to a Samba box (the
Samba box is a PPP server). I am having problems to browse the Network
Neighborhood in Windows 95 and I do not why. The problem is random:
sometimes I see computers and sometimes I don't.
I have read the BROWSING.txt document and tried several smb.conf settings
but nothing seems to help.
When I connect using

Hi,
first of all, my apologies for the very technical and long nature of
this message...
I still do not give up with the problem I am having about not being
able to browse the Network Neighborhood sometimes. My original post to the

Cross-Router Browsing of Win95/98 Networks
I am working with someone that has 3 locations in the state in three
different cities, connected by routers, with the main office using a Linux

NT 4.0 Client and Win95 clients and browsing problems in general.
I am using samba-1.9.16p11 and have not been able to make browsing work from my
9.04 HP where it is on a switched ethernet segement alone. I have tried many
combinations including remote announce to networks as well as Our NT Domain

missing. In fact my clients have to have DNS turned on in addition to WINS in

Please help! Urgent, STRANGE Win95 browsing problem!
Hi,
I sent an e-mail earlier about our strange Windows 95 browsing problem.
Then, I upgraded to samba-2.0.2 from 1.9.17p4, but the problem is still
there. I do need urgent help because almost all of our network
connection does not work and our users do it for their research. Please
help! Please, please! Let me repeat this strange problem:

Another not totally unrelated problem.
I have a win95 client on a local net with a linux box
serving it through samba. This win95 client should dial
a NT box up every once in a while to access a database
through odbc, and even though it connects and authenticates,
setting the correct routes, it doesn't actually see the
NT server's workgroup.
Is this a WINS problem? Shouldn't the

An even more strange win95 browsing problem
Hi,
I posted a few messages a couple of days ago about a strange windows 95
browsing problem with samba-2.0.2, 1.9.17p4 that none of our Windows 95
users can see our Linux shares, but all NT users can see the Linux
shares, and all 95 and NT users can see AIX shares. All of our Linux
and AIX use the save version of samba (I tested 2.0.2 and 1.9.17p4).
Yesterday, I tried to down grade the version

[Fwd: problems with ppp]
Hi,
I installed CentOS 3.3 and kept the machine up2date.
I installed poptop and the newest ppp-cvs version (
ppp-2.4.3-0.cvs_20040527.6)
We are running a ssh + ppp tunnel for our internet tunnel/tunnel to our NOC.
After the upgrade we see these error messages while starting the tunnel:

Case sensitivity and Win95
The company I work for uses samba to allow access to Unix files from PCs
running Windows 95.
When I create a file from my PC on the samba drive with a name including
upper case letters, the name is forced into all lower case: I cannot
create a file name containing an upper case letter. From Unix, I can
create (and see from my PC) mixed-case file names.
I asked my system administrator

ppp 2.4.1 pppoatm plugin. Here is a port of a previous version
Dear all
I have ported the pppoatm.c plugin for ppp version 2.3.x to the 2.4.1 ppp.
I am however having problems to decide what is the right place where to
send it.
I did look at http://www.samba.org/ppp and this seems to be the home page
for ppp
Then I did look for a mailing list the only one I have found is
majordomo@vger.kernel.org but I really don't know if that is official for ppp

win95 user level security printing
Hello All,
I have a SCO unix server running smbclient 2.0.3 and I have set it up so
that it has print queues and can print to win95 and win nt 4 machines
successfully.
The win95 machines I can print to with share level security and the win nt
machines i can print to using doman usernames and password without
anyproblems. However I am trying to print to a win95 machine with user
level security.
