Access Database SLOW
I've got a user that wants an Access database shared out. I've got a decent
machine serving out the directory (300 MHz Pentium II) running RedHat 5.0
(kernel 2.0.34) with Samba 1.9.17p4 (RPM is samba-1.9.17p4-3). I've created
a simple share entry in the smb.conf file:
[global]
debug level = 1
browsable = yes
comment = Samba under Linux (RedHat 5.0)
domain master = yes

smbstatus show open files when none are
I recently (a few weeks ago) installed 1.9.18p8 in order
to get better performance with an Access Database, which along
with adding a TCP_NODELAY in the [global] section has that
working like a charm. Thing that's bugging me now is smbstatus.
When I run it I see open files listed when I know that they aren't.
The following output shows quite a few files open that aren't
really. The

Cache Problems!!!!!
I've got a system setup where a Win95 client (written in Visual C++ 5.0)
presents a user with a GUI that collects information about hardware that
he/she would like to produce. This information is used to build a path
to the directory that contains the files to load into one of the
production machines. For example, through the use of menus and such the
user indicates that they would like to run

Charles,
If you are accessing data from both a Samba
share via Win32 and via a UNIX program the UNIX program
will see old data unless you turn off

When I map directory using samba o nour Windows 2000, I have to type in the
IP address of the samba server or the complete domain name; i.e,

Samba:connection only works one time
Hi all,
using samba 2.2.5; security=server
connecting as user1 (user logged in on PC) works (12:28:55),
disconnecting and connecting as another user2 (not the user logged in on
PC) works too (12:30:22), but disconnecting and connecting again as
user1 (user logged in on PC) fails (12:34:29) as well as user2
(12:38:19).
It seems it works only once and never again after one time logged in as
user2 ?

Can I specify a different username under Win95???
Hi all -
I have the latest samba up and running fine except for one small
problem. The username I use to log into the NT domain is different than
the username I log into samba with. I have no control over the former,
and would *really* rather not change the latter.
I've searched the net, and the archives, and got only saw bits and pieces
of this issue, never quite fully answered.
Is it

W2K not registering correct disk space
On a W2K machine, I can easily check the correct hard disk space of my
share. However, I have a directory on my share which is linked (on the UNIX
side) to another device with more storage. My problem is that W2K is having
problems checking the disk space over multiple devices. Has anyone seen
this problem and/or know of any solutions?

Support for AD native mode.
Hello All!
I was trying to find out which version of samba, if any is supported in an
Active Directory native mode environment? We currently are running mixed
mode with NT4 domain controllers but want to switch over ASAP.
I was curious if samba authenticated to a kerberos WIN2K domain controller.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Shared Memory and Semaphore Errors
Hello,
I am fighting an error I get when I try to compile Samba in IRIX. While
checking the archives I noticed references to the same errors I was
getting. In the last two weeks I have seen the error appear twice on two
more OS'es; AIX and Digital Unix, and now today someone is having the same
error on a DG/UX box:

Controlling Cisco 7960 Ringtone from Asterisk
I'm trying to change the ring tone on my 7960 from the dialplan. I've
tried the example on the wiki but it doesn't seem to work. Something like:
exten => 3010,1,SetVar(ALERT_INFO=<Bellcore-dr1>) ; selects Ringer
exten => 3010,2,Dial(SIP/3010,15)
I'm not sure what the Bellcore-dr1 ringer is supposed to be. I've tried
replacing ALERT_INFO with another ring tone

timeout problems with 2.2.8a
Last year the samba servers for our Georgia Tech computer clusters
were crashing about once a day running samba 2.0.7. Upgrading to
2.2.5 was disastrous - the Windows machines in the cluster started
giving chronic bad-password errors. Since daily crashes seemed an
easier problem to fix, we dug in and fixed the 2.0.9 source code.
(Our patch is attached, for those interested in running 2.0.9

server allows users as non-guest with bad password
Hi y'all,
I have a little problem with Samba which I hope you can help me with. We
are running Samba 2.0.4 on a Sun Enterprise 4500 with Solaris 7. Clients
are mostly Win 9x and a few NT workstations (and one NT Terminal Server). I
have security = server (password server is the NT Terminal Server). What
happens is occasionally Samba will not let a certain user connect, saying

Win98 goes to sleep on Samba
I have been running RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3 for the past week or so. My
network is made up of NT servers and 95/98 clients. So far Samba has been
running beautifully - I can use my Samba shares just like they are NT shares.
My only problem is from time to time my Win98 machine "goes to sleep" and
asks me for either a password or an IPC$ password. Generally this happens

samba error message - "broken (and insecure) behavior"
I've seen error messages about this since we installed 1.9.18p10 of samba,
so I went looking in the code for the context.
Here (from password.c) is the context:

* Attempt a session setup with a totally incorrect password.
* If this succeeds with the guest bit *NOT* set then the password

NT account locking out
Hi
I have Win2k servers connecting to the samba server by mapping a windows
user to unix user.
We never had any problems with thsi connectivity but for past 2 weeks we
have an erratic problem which causes the windows account to lock thus
making samba unfunctional. When I get the windows account unlocked then
samba starts functioning properly again.
I do not have a scenario to reproduce the

2.2.7a securtiy 'server' auth. problems
Hi all,
sorry if this has been asked before, but as far as I could see there's no similar entry in the archive.
I'm using version 2.2.7a on a HP machine running HP-UX 11.11. The binaries have been created for PA-RISC 2.0 supporting 64Bit mode.
The SAMBA has been configured to use securty = server. Password servers has been 'defined'. For a certain user (Service account used to
