Upgrade from UFS Sol 10u5 to ZFS Sol 10u6/OS 2008.11[SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hi ZFS gods, I have a x4500 I wish to upgrade from a SVM UFS Sol 10u5 to a ZFS rpool 10u6 or Opensolaris. Since I know (via backing up my sharetab) what shares I need to have (all nfs share - no cifs on this 4500 - YAY) and have organised downtime for this server, would it be easier for me to go to Solaris 10u6 (or opensolaris) by just installing from scratch and re-importing the ZPOOL

Would validation w/o ActiveRecord have clean sol''n?
Well I was using Rails for a class project, and frankly I love it. However I ran into situation that I want to use have a model object that doesn''t get stored into the database, and still have the same validation. The Rails wiki outlines a solution, but it''s still kind of a hack (e.g. I can''t create a new instance of the non-ActiveRecord model by passing a hash into

I/O performance problems on Dell 1850 w/ PERC 4e/Si RAID1 (Sol 10U6)
I''ve got Solaris 10 U6 with a ZFS boot/root installed on a Dell 1850 here, patched up as of this morning (kernel 141415-10). The system is running with hardware-mirrored disks, via the LSI MegaRAID controller, a PERC 4e/Si. 4G of RAM, one dual-core 3.4GHz CPU. The system is a simple mail hub, and it does the task very well. Most files exist only very briefly, and thus rarely touch the

Problem compiling 2.9.9p2 on Sol 2.6
It appears that "fixpaths" has "/usr/bin/perl" hard-coded in. This causes make to fail immediately after running configure. 2.2.5 on SOL 8 - deleted folder reappears
I'm using Samba 2.2.5 on Solairis 8. I have a problem with W2k and WXP clients. I have a folder, in a share, that is protected against deletion by a non-root user. I tested this in the unix environment to ensure the permissions were setup correctly. If an NT4/W9x client attempts to delete this folder, an access denied message is displayed. However, if a W2k or Wxp client attempts to delete

Sol 10 x86_64 intermittent SATA device locks up server
Hello All, I have an issue where I have two SATA cards with 5 drives each in one zfs pool. The issue is one of the devices has been intermittently failing. The problem is that the entire box seems to lock up on occasion when this happens. I currently have the SATA cable to that device disconnected in the hopes that the box will at least stay up for now. This is a new build that I am

Dtrace locks up on sol
Hi all... I''ve just got my hands on a Solaris 10 box for the first time. I''ve heard wonderous things about dtrace, so the first command I type is dtrace -l which disappointingly does nothing at all. It just hangs, and neither Ctrl-D, Ctrl-C or kill -9 from another shell will do anything to kill it. The box is: SunOS t2000 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200

2.0.6/Sol. 251/NTW4 - Drive mapping anomaly
Has anyone seen the following anomaly? When I first connect to the Samba server, I run a logon script that maps 5 shares to drives F,G,H,L,M. Some time later, when I check "My Computer", I find that the share mapped to H: has been mapped to all the remaining drive letters as well! For example, after I mount /users on G: and /programs on H:, I'll notice at some point later that I

Problems configuring OpenSSH 3.5p1 on Sol 5.8
Greetings. I am having a problem getting OpenSSH to configure on a Solaris 5.8 box. I have installed gcc 3.2.2, OpenSSL 0.9.6g. The config script dies with the error: OpenSSL version header not found. OpenSSL is installed in /usr/local/ssl. A check of the config.log file indicates that the test program appears to be core dumping. I have included relavent (I hope) portions of config.log

Oracle 9 process on Sol 10 container, doing a pollsys, using high CPU
We''re running a Solaris 10 container, with an Oracle 9.2.0.4 database - every 5-10 min, an Oracle process shoots up (using 20% + CPU) and then goes down in CPU %, doing a pollsys (see it via dtruss). I tried using some of the trace scripts in the Dtracetoolkit to see what the process is doing, but without any luck - also tried with the following, but dtrace process goes up to 30%

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end. The SAMBA print command I currently use is: print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \ lpr -P %p %s ; \ rm %s ; These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will print 99.9% of
