Strange problem with icons!
Check out these MSKB articles. They describe how shortcuts are resolved. In particular, the last one describes the process required to "fix" this behaviour. I had a LOT of trouble when I first set up my LAN because people had a nasty habit of sharing drive C (even I used to do this until I discovered that this is a Bad Idea). The main problem is that the shortcut includes the UNC

smbclient put 1/100 of the speed only
Hi ! I have a problem with samba that I cannot seem to solve: smbclient put it extremely slow. I am setting up a two-computer home network, with a '95 client (also print server), and a Linux 2.2.0-pre8 server, using samba-2.0. I've finished the setup, and most things work fine. However, I noticed that doing a 'put' with smbclient is extremely slow. I've read the

R Project for measurement of earnings management
Hello there, My name is Alireza. I am interested in utilizing R-program for measurement of earnings management (accounting related issue). However, there are two source programs which should be used simultaneously with the R-program to be able to measure earnings management. Previously (i.e. in year 2006) I could obtain these two source programs off the R-Project website (i.e.

transparent surface in rgl
Hi all I am a complete newbie to this list (just subscribed) and a newcomer to R (an S user from olden times). I have been using scatter3d to create a 3d scatter plot with surface. The graphic is created within the rgl package and I have used rgl.postscript to export it so I can generate a publication quality image. My problem is that the plotted surface is no longer transparent in the

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on the network which was set up for several reasons. I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server, which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since the names are all entered statically. We have

PAM problem: "no modules loaded for 'samba' service"
I'm running FreeBSD 3.0-current and have just upgraded samba to 2.0.0. Previously, I used unencrypted passwords. After upgrading, they didn't work so I changed to use encrypted ones. I can now map my drives from the PC. However, I still have a number of problems that I think are all related. - I can't use swat. The authentication always fails. I get a message on the console

Purely numeric service name
Hi I have a problem accessing NT boxes which have a service (host) name which is purely numeric, smbclient insists on treating it as an ip number. For example:- /opt/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\06842\\BACKUP xxxxx -U xxxxx returns :- Connecting to 0.0.14.34 at port 139 Connection to 06842 failed I am using HPUX 10.2 and samba version 2.0.4b. Surely it should be possible to connect to NT

samba and msaccess help please
Hopefully this is a samba question, and not a Microsoft Access question... I have a multiuser access database on a samba share... it worked fine with multiple users being able to connect to it at the same time no probs. I just upgraded the linux box to red hat 6, copied across the same smb.conf from before and now users are getting a error "Too many active users" when more than one

password stuff
Greetings All: I hope everyone had a fun Halloween weekend (I carved 4 big pumpkins and gave out a bucket full of rubber eyeballs and stuff). I'm hoping somebody can explain the password behavior I've been seeing (and a couple of other things). Here's my setup: An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30,
