NT 4.0 Client and Win95 clients and browsing problems in general.
I am using samba-1.9.16p11 and have not been able to make browsing work from my 9.04 HP where it is on a switched ethernet segement alone. I have tried many combinations including remote announce to networks as well as Our NT Domain Server/ Win Servers. All to no avail. I am sure there is some key point I am missing. In fact my clients have to have DNS turned on in addition to WINS in order to

Browsing issues NT WS 4.0 and Samba
Hi Guys/Girls, I have recently been trying to implement samba into our environment here as a replacement for ftp clients. What I am finding is that windows explorer (NT W/S 4.0) will not list all the files in the directory or in fact all the sub directories either. It is quite unusual, one of the shares we have contains two directories sun and suntst. They are basically mirrors of each other (

Samba 1.9.18p7 with Win95/NT...
Hi... I've gone through the DIAGNOSIS.txt document, and just about everything else I can think of, and am lost... I've installed Samba on one of my Sparc's here at the office, and am trying to connect to it from a Win95 machine, and it fails. If I try to use smbclient from a different Unix host, it connects fine. If we look at a Win/NT machine, the Sparc server comes up on the

Browsing from NT 4.0
Hi James, One of the things that NT does different from WIN9x is that it attempts to 'browse' using a null session. This typically means that SAMBA is going to try to make the attachement for the 'null' username as SAMBA's guest account (by default 'nobody'). On a lot of HP systems the 'nobody' /etc/passwd entry is set as uid -2 and gid -2. These uid/gid

Strange problem connecting via NT
I am running Version 1.9.18p7 and I have a win95 machine and an NT machine connecting via ethernet. I have, for security reasons, reorganized my network to reduce outside threats. The network is set up using RFC1918 addressing, and I am using Linux 2.0.33 to transparent proxy outside requests to the net via a dialup PPP session with a dedicated IP address. The global section of my smb.conf

allowing anyone to browse and print (NT 4.0 SP3, 9.18p10)
I'm having lots of hassles and troubles since I moved to 1.18p10: 1\ Why do I need a smbpasswd and have to have a user equivalent on the unix machine when an NT user wants to print via an smb printer? My NT/Win users shouldn't need to know anything about unix and I don't want to tell them "you have to log into my unix machine and invoke

Windows NT 4.0 SP3
I have Samba 1.9.17p2 and it works great on NT4.0 SP2 When I update to NT4.0SP3, my Samba connection gives me the following message: The account is not authorized to login from this station. Did something change? Maybe NT4.0 SP3 uses a smb.conf option that wasn't used before? I've installed the package version from the Solaris 2.5 web site. I'm actually running Solaris 2.5.1

Synchronising NT and Unix Passwords
Hi, I've been handed the administration of our Solaris 2.5.1 Server and have recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.5a. As the server is in a predominantly NTsp3 environment it was requested that when the NT passwords change (each month) the Unix Passwords should also change. All the NT and Win95 Clients are currently authenticating using Plain Text Passwords. Also the current security level is

Printer browsing- failing under Solaris 2.5.1
I am at a loss. I have two SUNs and 10 PCs (W95) on our network. One SUN box runs Solaris 1.1.1, it has four serial printers (old printers never die they just...) running from a serial extension card. Users validate when the come to their PC so they can access the printers and the disks on the SUNs. The second SUN runs 2.5.1 and I wanted to move the printer activity there with time. I created two

NT 4.0 Small Probs
We have a fairly large Samba/Win95 installation. We are currently putting some NT 4.0 Workstation Machines. However we seem to be having a few small problems. First of all printing on some machines comes up with an error about the wrong syntax when you try to print even though the printer setup goes 'smoothly'. Second, sometimes connecting persistent shares fails with a

Browsing - NT/Windows 2000
Hi All, I am currently experiencing an unusual symptom some of you might be able to help me with. Currently I have two Windows based servers. The first is a Windows 2000 server upgrade of the original NT PDC. The second is the original NT BDC. The two servers running Samba 2.0.6 are both HP-UX 10.20. Historically, the BDC was always used for authentication Samba-wise as the password server,
