get_share_modes problem
I have samba 2.0.5a running on Openserver 5.0.5 with the latest patches installed. I got this specific version from Skunkware (SCO's distribution of Open Source binary packages). AFAIK, they make no changes to the actual source. I have no problems with using samba for name service and printing, however with file sharing I am having some strange problems. I sporadically get problems like

PANIC and delayed drive mapping?
Hiya! Samba 2.0.7 on HP-UX 11.0. When a user tries to map a drive, the smb.log shows the following: NOTE: the stanza ending in PANIC repeats 3 times, snipped here for brevity ===================================== [2002/02/28 11:12:43, 1] smbd/server.c:(641) smbd version 2.0.7 started. SOLARIS_2.6: request_oplock_break
I saw a little discussion about this a few weeks ago but nothing concrete. We're running samba-1.9.18p8 under Solaris 2.6x86. I am periodically getting the following in the logfiles, usually _many_ at a time: 1998/11/03 14:42:00 request_oplock_break: no response received to oplock break request to pid 5411 on port 40884 for dev = 1980040, inode = 33c4d When I look up the PID (in this case

Share modes problems
Hi all, I'm having a problem with share modes (at least I think it's share modes) on my samba server. The problems only seem to have manifested themselves since I updated to samba 2.0.0. This has coincided with an upgrade to our system, so it is conceivable that the problem may be with that, but I think it more likely that it is to do with samba (since errors are reported in the log

3.0beta5 disconnecting drives
Hi there! Seems that my 2.0beta5 is not going as smoothly as I'd hoped. We've found a strange behaviour which is only happening when people first log in in the morning. When we log in, a number of drives are mapped to various directories on the Unix box. Things seem to go OK until another person logs in and tries to access a file already open by another user. Then they both seem to

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi! I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help! I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a), and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3 from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

Failure of gvinum after panic
Hi all, I have some problems with my gvinum setup after the system panic'ed. Afterwards the system fails finding the plexes to the subdisks (or at least that is what I can understand after having searched the gvinum source code for the error string in the DMESG log..) The machine is an IBM Netfinity 5000 and the internal HW self tests does not find any errors in the hw. Luckily my root is

Migrating from 1.9.19-prealpha
Hi, We have been using 1.9.19-prealpha very successfully for over a year and have just started migrating to 2.0.4b, the environment is Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.5.1 and NT 3.51 & 4.0(/sp3). On the servers that have been upgraded, the log files are filling up with some ominous messages, but curiously, users are not reporting any errors at the moment. The following are characteristic of

External Journal scenario - good idea?
Hello everyone, I've just recently joined the ext3-users list. I spent much of the weekend browsing over list archives and other tidbits I could find on the net, regarding using an external journal, and running in data=journal mode. From what I have seen looking around at what other folks are doing, data=journal with an external journal may be able to help our problem here. If I

Help! Problem with Samba 2.0.5a + WinNT4.0 SP5 (process 7281 no longer exists)
Hi All! Help! can anyone tell me what this message means? I'm running samba-2.0.5a. It sort of works, I can mount a samba drive from WinNT and run programs stored on the samba drive, but when I try and open an oracle form file on the samba drive, form reports an error opening the file. "session was cancelled" on large file xfers
I've seen a couple mentions of trouble w/ large files in the list archives, but nothing that seems to resolve this problem... When trying to move or copy largish files (~ >1MB) with WinN using Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sparc Solaris 2.5 system, things hang for a while and then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot copy {filename}: The session was cancelled. Stuck in geli
Rarely, a geli partition I have freezes a process in bufwait state. It occurs after an ATA timeout message: Aug 5 03:47:13 thor kernel: ad10: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (1 retry left) LBA=219028637 The geli partition resides on an Intel MatrixRAID RAID1 mirror using the ICH9R chipset (Asus P5K-E/WIFI). Killing (even -9) the process does not work. Rebooting is the only solution, yet the

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she would always get a sharing violation. After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list! I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current) against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I can repeatedly test the

Internal error: Signal 11
Hi, I have a problem with Samba from last week. Our SMB server( Debian Linux 2.2.12, samba 2.0.5a) was working very well since october 99. We didn't do any changes with our SMB server sw or hw configuration. There is my problem: content of samba log file: [2000/01/25 05:52:52, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(521) PC1 (10.0.0.42) connect to service database$ as user USER1
