Junk e-mail .... help needed!!!
Hi!! Of late, I'm getting a lot of un-solicited mails from this list, and inspite of un-subscribing mails, messages, threats , nothing really seems to work... My question: 1. Is there any way I can 'avoid' or 'bounce' incoming messages at the mail-server level?? 2. I cannot change my address (alias) as such... since this involves sending reminders to God knows how many

problem with printer
Hi, I've a strange problem with samba 1.9.15pl4 and an Epson LQ2070 printer (not that I think that samba release or printer type are relevant ..). I'm using samba with linux to offer print share to a win3.11 LAN. A little drawing: Win PC <----> File Server <----> Axis print server <----> printer (spool dir) The printer is connected to an Axis printserver

How to get nmbd to work?
I have NEVER been able to get nmbd to work in anything even remotely approximating a usable fashion. All I want it to do is DNS lookups. I can't even get it to do that reliably. It looks in some cases like it isn't even sending a response back to the querying clients. When I do a request that fails, I get this: --- nmb packet from 192.55.114.4(3175) header: id=8172 opcode=Query(0)

Configuring printer drivers
Hi, I've been running a samba server for our small group of users (about 15) for approx the last 18 months with great success. We use the server for both file and printer sharing. I had to make some modifications to the printer configuration today, and I've got a quick question which arose from my tinkering. I wanted to configure the server such that each of our printers can be used

Print Share Name Length
Hi all, We (the Samba Team) need some feed back from our user community. Anyone want to help out? All you need to do is post us a one liner. Tell us if you want 8 character length limited print share names or larger. If you really must have longer print share names - then how many characters? Should we limit the length? Background: >From time to time we receive patches to increase the maximum

use samba timeserver for linux box
Hello. I have a small network with a dialup connection to the internet. When the server is online to collect mail, etc I use ntpdate to synchronise it with a local timeserver. The windows machines on the network set their time using the timeserver in Samba with a "net time ..." bat file. This works well. I would like to synchronise the linux machines using the samba time server

Excel 'save as HTML' problem with Samba 2.0
Hello, Eversince I upgraded Samba to 2.0 version I've gotten so many calls from the users regarding Excel 'save as HTML' problem. What seems to be happening is that the users cannot save their Excel spreadsheet as html file when they were able to with the previous Samba version we had installed (Samba 1.9.18p10). According to MS 'knowledge database', this is a known MS Excel

netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service
Sorry if this is such a basic question but I couldn't find anything about this in the FAQs/HowTos/Digest. I've compiled samba-1.9.18p3 on SunOS4.1.3_U1. When I tried to run smbd via inetd.conf (SIGHUP), I always get the following on the console. inetd[590]: netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service I've edited the /etc/services to add: netbios-ssn 139/tcp And the /etc/inetd/conf with

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5 PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact prior to upgrading to Samba version

Early warning wrt Win2K
It looks like Microsoft buggered up Win2000 so that explorer hangs while trying to view a directory on a Samba server. I can't experiment any more since I removed Win2K beta 3, but I thought I'd give the list a warning. -- Ben Kosse <bkosse@thecreek.com> PC Technician -- Coldwater Creek, Inc. (208) 265-7114

Samba 2.2.1a - ls inconsistancies.
I am running Red Hat 7.2 and using smbmount to mount a PC share from a NT4 SP5 Workstation. I have a folder, in this share, of around 300 files and when I do ls -l I get inconsistencies. Sometimes files are missing, and if I keep repeating the command the files are then appear again. Other times the size information is wrong. No one else is using, or changing, any of the files on the source

NTP on CentOS 3.4
Running CentOS 3.4, I enabled the ntpd service and noticed that it opens up a hole in the firewall for ntp from 127.127.1.0. I look in the ntpd initscript and see that it's reading in servers from /etc/ntp/step-tickers. However, that file is empty... /etc/ntp/ntpservers contains clock.redhat.com and clock2.redhat.com, but ntpservers isn't used *anywhere*. This looks like a bug, but
