R-beta: Splus -> R migration issues
I've recently installed R for RH5.0 Linux and been considering moving existing work from Splus (Windows, 4.5). Also installed the win95 R, but this doesn't seem to work as well, and in any case the idea is to move toward Linux. 1 I attach and detach directories freely and often in Splus. Is it anticipated that it will be possible to do this in R in the future? 2 The ascii representation

Installation problems with R.classes bundle
Firstly hi to everyone on the list, I am new to this list ans also R so please forgive the simplicity of my questions over the next few months. I have version R 1.9.1 and want to perform z-scoring for a benchmarking procedure. I have tried to install Henrik Bengtsson's R.classes bundle (http://www.maths.lth.se/help/R/R.classes). I have downloaded the .zip file and placed the relevant folders

Sieve filters on folders, different from INBOX
Hi all Is it possible to configure Dovecot's sieve plugin to act on message arrival to folders, other than INBOX? I wish to move messages fetched by pop3 fetcher to special folder, or sort outgoing mail to folders, specific to their recipients. Thanhs in advance, WBR, valery

Graphs
I am trying to use the Windows version of R to do the following: - Have a Delphi front-end which gets the user input - Delphi will produce a R script, do a system call to R to calculate the statistics. Is there a better way? Maybe a library one can use in Delphi or Visual C? - How do one see a graph? A graph is plotted in a window which IMMEDIATELY closes afterwords so that one can't

Can't join SAMBA-Domain
Hi, I have set up samba 1.9.18p2 on a BSDI 3.0. As I tried to join the samba-server with a NT 4.0 Workstation (sp3,german) I got an error message indicating that my workstation has no account on the samba-server. Further tries doing the same thing only showed an error message that the Domain-Server for the domain I want to connect to cannot be found. * I surely did NOT check this create

multiple workgroups
Hi all. I found the 'remote announce' option for smb.conf, but I'm not sure this is what I want to use. I think my circumstances are quite odd. I currently have 1.9.18 running on a sparc, serving my PC, on the same network, at work. My Linux box at home I use to dial into my machine. So the PPP interface has the same netwokr as the boxes at work. My Linux box also has 10mbs

"mailbox vulnerable" messages
Hi, I''m running 2 RH5.0 mailservers here with patches from the errata through around July 23, including imap-4.1.final-1. Shortly afterinstalling the latter, we got "mailbox vulnerable, can''t create lockfile" messages only from clients using an old version of PC-pine. We can migrate those users, but then I noticed that fetchmail gives the same error when run with the

ALERT: Tiresome security hole in "xosview", RedHat5.1?
Hi, I am bemused. After some security auditing on RH5.0, I was curious as to what new suid binaries and daemons shipped with RH5.1. The first one I noticed was "xosview". God knows why it needs to be SUID; it probably doesn''t but the makefile just makes the binary suid by default. Linux has /proc which has enough information that ferreting around in /dev/kmem using root privs

Password changing...
Hello samba gurus!!! I have samba-1.9.18p4 installed on Linux RH5.0. Ability to change the SMB password from a Windows 95 client is very fine, but if 'normal' user have no password and record in smbpasswd file apper like this user:uid:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:..... then no chance to change password from a Windows 95 client, and by using smbpasswd.

Hangup while accessing Samba from NT4 W/S
Running Samba 1.9.17p4 under Linux RH5.0 (a little old, I know, and we will be upgrading before too long, but that's the way it is right now). The network (actually two subnets multi-homed in the Linux machine) consists of the Linux machine, several W95 machines and several NT4 Workstation machines. My problem is that the NT4 machines hang up for a while (approx 15 secs) under certain

Dice simulation: Getting rep to re-evaluate sample()?
I'm trying to get R to simulate the sum of the values on 10 fair dice (yes, it's related to a homework problem, but is not the problem itself). I tried to do this: > rep(sum(sample(1:6,100,replace=T)), times=10) [1] 341 341 341 341 341 341 341 341 341 341 and noticed that sum(sample()) seems to be only evaluated once. How can I overcome this, so that I get a vector of values that

Slowdown when copying large files
I am currently investigating using samba on a Linux box to provide file server services on our NT LAN (I'm a bit sick of NT doing dummy spits on me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba- 1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm) The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as

Problems with smbmount
I have a problem. When I mount my CD (witch is on WIN97 machine) using smbmount I do not see all files in all dirs. If dir have more then, let say, 100 files (it is not the same every time), I do not see all files. This is a problem because on my Linux box I do not have CD-ROM, so if I have to install some packages I first have to copy rpm files on disk, and then install them witch is annoying.

Browsing across subnets
I would like to know how to view a samba server on a different subnet than the client workstation resides. For example, I have a Samba 1.9.18p3 server in subnet 'a' and a NT 4.0 client in subnet 'b'. The Samba server does not show up when the NT client double-clicks on the Network Neighborhood. However, if the client does a Find:computer it will find the server, and shares can be

Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

Domain logon through VPN with WINS
Hi! I'm experiencing some serious problems setting up Samba as PDC. File sharing works fine and I can even add my computer to the domain, but when I reboot I can't log in with my samba username and password. I've previously set up similiar server, though it wasn't trough VPN. I'm running latest Debian Etch with every package upgraded. I've also tried some older samba
