samba and clearcase (PR#7829)
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the tip but ...(there's always a but) if I do this (increase MAX_OPEN_FILES to 1024), I get an error in log.smb: Can't create or use IPC area. Error was File exists I'm using FAST_SHARE_MODES to compile samba. Does this take up too much space or is there something else wrong? Authentication Problem Citrix NT 3.51 Samba 2.0.2
Hello, I am currently testing my old samba configuration, 1.9.18p10, under samba 2.0.2. Everything appeard o.k. for the first few hours, but then I started receiving calls from users of our Citrix based multi user NT 3.51 servers, that some of them could not connect to the samba shares. We are using two Citrix based boxes. Windd from Tektronix and NTRIGUE. I only had one user on the Windd

FW: smbmount question
Nevermind...need to read the whole msg... I didn't notice you were installing WINS on the NT box...hence the reboot. Standard practice for Winxx: 1. Install, reboot 2. Update, reboot, repeat.... I support about 25 pc's-it annoys the hell out of me how MS manages updates. How many Internet Explorer security updates have there been so far this year-22? Each one of them requires a

access denied with Samba 2.0.3 on Solaris 7
I have a problem with Samba 2.0.3 on Solaris 7. We use an multi-user NTrigue Server, based on NT3.5.1, as an application server for running windows applications on Sun workstations. All workstations are connected to an NIS-, File- and application server running under Solaris 7, host name "enterprise". When a UNIX user starts NTrigue the user logs in to the PDC server based on NT4.0, SP4.

Samba in a WAN Environment
Brevard County is about 70 miles long and 20 miles wide. We have many small sites around the County that will eventually have their current servers replaced with Linux/Samba servers. We've been successfully running a test Samba server since January and I'm convinced of it's stability and usefulness ... good work Samba Team and Linux in general. Other than for the test Samba server,

Samba and ClearCase
We're trying to use samba to let our PC's mount view extended pathnames used by clearcase but they show up as empty. If anyone's used samba and Clear Case (by Pure Atria) and gotten it to work I'd love to hear how. thanks, Bill -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- William H. Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help. In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below. I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

Erronous disk full message
Hello, I have discovered a slight problem with MS-Project4 on a WinDD server, where users are not able to update the *.MPP file. WinDD is Citrix Metaframe on Windows NT 3.51. We have all data files stored on a UNIX box, using samba-2.05a, so all *.MPP files are stored there, with the proper UNIX user's userid and permissions. The problem is that userB can not update and save changes in a

Samba 3 startup
Hello, I'd like to see if I can get some clarification on what is the preferred method of starting the Samba daemons (note that we are using Solaris, not Linux). This is something that I'm not able to find any explanation of in any of the Samba 3 documentation that I've looked at so far. In Samba 2 I would have the Samba daemons started up by the following in my /etc/inetd.conf:

Problems with 'Case-Sensitive' settings.
I am currently running 'Samba 2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix' on a Mandrake 9.1 box. I have a few pieces of software that are unable to correctly utilize NFS mounted partitions so I have resorted to using SMB mounted partitions for this packages. However, it is critical that the SMB shares follow the same rules that NFS follows, namely being case-sensitive allowing 'apple' and

And route print? Do you have any servers on the WAN? (or is everyone connecting to the servers THROUGH the WAN?) Can you see the samba machines at all in network neghborhood? What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e. \\SAMBASERVERNAME) I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru. -Dan PS. Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

Samba3 HowTo
For John Terpstra: Just got your new book from Amazon. All I can say is: VERY GOOD!!! Can easily recommend it for anyone, especially those of us who just want to make better use of Samba but aren't Linux gurus/code commandoes! I wouldn't begin to know how to contribute anything, but I'll certainly continue to buy and learn from such good material! Thanks, Marion D. Haines

HalfLife on latest CVS
Whilst bored I purchased HalfLife for Windows, having read people mention on Slashdot that it runs on Wine. I run Debian (woody) on an AMD Athlon 1.4GHz machine with 1Gb RAM as my desktop. It currently has a Voodoo3 video card, though I have a dual head Radeon which I'm going to use once I get a monitor that is compatible (my current monitor has a very wavy display with that card). I

Pardon me for asking this general question with regards to Samba but I've been searching and haven't found a source that would answer my question. Is there some site, list, etc, that lists companies, schools, etc, who have volunteered information that they use Samba in their day-to-day operations? This would be of great interest to us as it would show Linux/Samba to be a viable

SMB: : ver 2.2x vs 3.0 vs tng (diff's)?
OK: First, please respond to me directly, as I'm not on the TNG list. Here's the situation: I will be setting up a "computer lab" for 30-40 PC's with various users (students). Here are my needs: 1) One Touch (point) User administration (the simpler the better) 2) Simplest set of LINUX SW possible 3) NO NT PDC 4) All clients are W2K. 5) Want
