cannot set right file's group after group mapping?
Hi All,
when i did testing with group mapping, i mapped a Unix Group(domadm) with Windows Domain Group(domain users). then i access a samba share from Windows Domain User(administrator), and create a file. but the file's group is still Windows Domain Group(domain user), not Unix Group(domadm). is it right? if it is, how should i check if my group mapping is working well? thanks a lot in

Moving to a new domain
I've moved several samba servers to a new domain and
subsequently they will not authenticate with the new
PDC (using Server or Domain security). I've updated
the "workgroup" and "password server" and they show
up in the N'Hood, public shares are accessable, but
shares that require authentication are not. Any ideas?
I'm hoping it's something obvious

core dumped messages from tune2fs
I decided to start using ext3. My kernel 2.4.15p9.
I downloaded and build util-linux-2.11m
and e2fsprogs 1.25.
I compiled ext3 in the kernel.
I started converting my filesystems and thing went ok for the first few.
I then started getting the following on each additional filesystem.
[root@joker /root]# tune2fs -j /dev/hdc4

Samba 1.9.16p11
Hi,
The Samba 1.9.16p11 is installed on Solaris 2.7 and works well with win95/98. The folders of Solaris can be mapped as a remote drive on a win95.
However, when win95 is replaced by winNT4.0 the same Samba no longer works. It displays following message when I try to map a solaris folder to a win drive. "The account is not authorizeded to login from this station". I try to add a

Name Resolution Order Question (1.9.16p11)
I know this is an older version, but we're currently working on a project
that has encountered some broadcast storms and fingers have begun to point
to samba. I don't believe this is the case, but I find my knowledge of the
resolution mechanism for nmbd to be sorely lacking. I know later versions
than ours (1.9.16p11) included a "name resolution" parameter in smb.conf,
but I

SUMMARY: Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
My whole problem as far as samba was concerned was not compiling with DES
support *and* that I did compile with FAST_SHARE_MODES. One clue was this
in the samba.log. file. I then did a dejanews search for smb_shm_open and
came up with that portion of the solution.
ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 11
The DES portion came from just reading the WinNT.txt file that came with
Samba.

Was: WinNT 4.0 Wrkstaion reconnecting all local drives to Samba 1.9.16p11 share
Hi,
just want to answer my own question a while ago.
My Win NT 4.0 wrkst kept reconnecting to our Samba server (Aix 3.2.5)
until all
local drives where used!
This has been resolved by changing the setup on the NT workstation to
local settings for
Norway. (It used to be US settings).
Anyway, it now has stopped reconnecting. My only smb.conf parameters
that **maybe** caused this to happen

installing R on slackware linux, another route
I have been reading the archives of this list and
noticed a post from Murray Jorgensen asking about how
to install R under slackware.
The replies were all to the effect that he should
compile from the source.
There is another path that is better for some
purposes.
Download the red hat binary package, the .rpm file,
then run rpm2targz on it, a slackware program designed
to convert rpm packages

Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi,
I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running
NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a
single ethernet segment (it's at home :-).
I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files
from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except
authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba
shares

Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
At the bottom is what I got returned from AMANDA 2.3.0.5 after patching
Samba 1.9.16p11 to give estimates. Any idea what I might not have done yet?
My disklist reads:
shokk \\thor\depot nocomp-user-gnutar
To connect successfully to that server with smbclient, I have to do this,
giving the same password that I now have in /etc/amandapass:
smbclient \\\\THOR\\DEPOT -U BACKUP

Re: Add support for slackware in supermin
Hi Pino,
Thanks for your reply and details.
I started looking at the others package manager code and as I see it there
is one main problem to port supermin to slackware distro.
Slackware builtin package management tools (pkgtool and slackpkg) do not
manage package dependencies. There is no easy solution to solve this
problem.
There are third party packet manager which manage dependencies but

Boot USB:SATA:Partition4 from USBstik?
I want to be able to make a USBbootStik for my laptop, as I repeatedly
did for the now stolen PC.
I've got a copy of the required 2009, Slackware13 partition, saved to a
USBdisk. And I've located the 175-line: <make bootStik script> .
Of course just "chroot"ing Slak13, won't allow <make bootStik>.
But why can't someone here, provide the info to make an

samba 2.2.7 Install Errors on Slack 8.1
Slackware 8.1 comes standard with samba 2.2.4. However, I wanted to upgrade
to 2.2.7 and tweak samba, so I uninstalled it using the Slack package
manager (pkgtool). I'm now trying to install samba 2.2.7 which I downloaded
from us6.samba.org. './configure' ran fine, as far as I could tell.
However, 'make' is giving me some errors. I have not been able to find any
mention of
