win98 browsing problem across VPN subnets
I have just setup a VPN connection three sites using IPCOP.
Everything seems to be talking ok, apart from browsing the network neighborhood. There are no NT/Win2K/XP servers running on any of the sites, all sites are just running win98 pc's using tcp/ip. I have tried configuring all PC's to be on the same workgroup and setup sharing, but still each site can only see the pc's

problems with installer for bridge base online
I'm attempting to run the Bridge Base Online installer
(ftp://www.bridgebase.com/bbo_setup.exe) under wine, but something
isn't working.
wine bbo_setup.exe produces no error output, and very briefly displays
the splash screen before exiting with a successful status.
winedbg bbo_setup.exe produces:

password problems
We installed Samba server on a Alphaserver 4000 and we are connecting with
a Win NT client
Our server name is "ALPHASERVER4000" our client name is "PC3"
we arrived to test 10 and problem is still alive.
We can see with the NT browser "ALPHASERVER4000" but if we double click on
it a password is requested.
We tried with Regedit with all this options.
Run regedt32.exe

Server is not using PAM and is a ypclient.
Client PC's are DOS 6.20 with MS Client 3.0 and Windows 95.
I am having trouble changing passwords using the "net password \\<server>"
command from either DOS or Win95 command prompt. Changing passwords worked fine
using Samba 17p3.

SAMBA config problem
We are a little stuck on this one;
running /usr/sbin/smbd = version 2.05(a) from Red Hat 6.1, kernel 2.2.12-20,
we can't log on to our Linux server from our W 98 boxes. We can telnet in
just fine, but it won't show up in any network neighborhood on the PCs....
We're trying to get SAMBA to run on the Linux server so we can run seven W98
clients for a small law office. Nothing

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP

The software we need runs in win9x.
We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file
server.
It's normally quite fast: are you running over a
dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for
speed???
If not, try ``socket

has anyone tried to make a win98 (beta3) connect to a samba server? Is
there some little secret I don't know about?

Samba, WINS, many subnets, etc

Is it possible to declare the samba server as the WINS server for all machines
(which can be done via DHCP), and then prime the running samba with an lmhosts
generated via the DNS database? What would happen if a machine with a given
IP tried to register itself with a different

win2k dropping network connection to samba
Hello,
I have a client that has a RedHat 8 box with samba 2.2.7 running as a
basic file server. They have two win98 computers and 1 w2k pc. They have
no problems accessing the files on the server from the win98 pc's but
the win2k pc keeps dropping the connection... I would normally say... ok
its some hardware problem with the win2k box... BUT if i copy files to
and from shares on the win98

Win98 not doing name resolution.
I recently reinstalled Linux on my fileserver (RedHat 7.2), which was
running Samba (v 2.2.1a). Now, trying to reconfigure Samba back to its
original state (silly me didn't keep a copy of the conf file) I've run into
a problem. My win98 machines can't find the Samba server by name, but they
can by number. By this I mean:
On a Linux desktop,
smbclient -L //marvin/

Windows can't see Samba server in Network Neigborhood
I have a private IP network with one win98 PC and one Linux PC. The
windows machine can only access shares if I map a network drive and type
the path in explicitly. When I go to network neighborhood the Linux PC
does not show up. Both machines are in the same workgroup, so it should
be there. When I type the path directly into the address bar in network
neighborhood the program stops

Flags Ignored
Hi
I'd like to know what does "flags ignored" mean. I'm confronted to this
error (type err:fixme:ShellExeExecuteW32) when i try to launch Steinberg
Wavleab via wine 20041019 (from scratch on debian 3.1 emulating
installed win98) with kernel 2.6.9
I saw that software running under SuSE 9.1 (with latest wine's RPM
package for this distrib). This is the only error i get.

Win98 clients not 'seeing' each other
Hi there,
I have a somewhat wide experience with samba. I've succesfully installed
it as a client as well as a PDC on Windows networks.
The last time, however, there has been an issue with the win9x stations.
I've setup the Samba server over Linux to act as a PDC for the domain. I
use dhcp to assign the network configuration to the hosts, and the only
protocol installed on them is

Moving a mail between folders and post-processing ?
Hi,
Within Dovecot is there a way of spotting a change to a folder and
running a post-processing script on the email that was moved ? I'm
specifically after a way of seeing either an email entering or leaving a
folder - preferably running a different post-process script depending on
the direction. Essentially if an email enters or is moved out of a
'spam' folder I'd like to mark

passwords
could someone please give me the lowdown on samba and passwords? i keep
trying to connect to any share name on either of my unix boxes, either
from each other or from a win95 machine... every time i can't get
anything due to passwords... does samba have it's own password file?
from trial-and-error it seems that it doesn't read out your /etc/passwd
file for user's home dirs...

samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello,
Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm
not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions
welcome.
I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd
3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06,
depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for
whatever reason, making a

samba server does not appear in network neighborhood
Hi all,
I've recently setup samba 2.2.5 on a solaris 8 workstation and configured it
to be a member of an NT domain. Everything is working correctly, with the
exception that the samba server does not appear in the network neighborhood of
the rest of the PC's in the domain. However, if you choose to "search for
computers" and enter the netbios name of the server it is
