Recursive dir errors...
Can anyone tell me what the error is with recursion here? It is keeping my smbclient from giving AMANDA a sice for the share. Without recursion, and stepping through the directories manually, I can do the dir and get no errors. smb: \> ls received 8 entries (eos=1 resume=0) . D 0 Thu Aug 15 09:19:58 1996 .. D

Yes!!!! You just solved a problem I've been having since 1.9.17p1!!!! I didn't realize that CIFS was limited to passthrough authentication for only its domain, so that listing multiple password servers from different domains would not work...the following did. Yeeeehhaaa! Hurm...excuse me. I added to the following in my config to make this work: netbios aliases = unix1 unix2 (not

Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
At the bottom is what I got returned from AMANDA 2.3.0.5 after patching Samba 1.9.16p11 to give estimates. Any idea what I might not have done yet? My disklist reads: shokk \\thor\depot nocomp-user-gnutar To connect successfully to that server with smbclient, I have to do this, giving the same password that I now have in /etc/amandapass: smbclient \\\\THOR\\DEPOT -U BACKUP Also, the

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie, Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT).. -- Rick -----Original Message----- From: Ernie Oporto

SUMMARY: Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
My whole problem as far as samba was concerned was not compiling with DES support *and* that I did compile with FAST_SHARE_MODES. One clue was this in the samba.log. file. I then did a dejanews search for smb_shm_open and came up with that portion of the solution. ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 11 The DES portion came from just reading the WinNT.txt file that came with Samba. I

SAMBA digest 1365/ commercial ads
I hate to suggest this, but we need to do what has been done on a few other lists that I'm on. We need to close the list off to only people that are members. It's a shame to see so much spam here after seeing it in my personal mailbox all day long. SAMBA digest 1524
I'm getting the following in my logs when people try to connect to our Samba server. Any idea why this happens? The smb passwd file is there, and the user *does* exist. When I try to connect to the server, Win95 gets a message saying "You must supply a passowrd to make this conection. \\salamanda\IPC$". Security = server, the WinNT boxes have SP3 loaded, and this is Samba

ERRSRV Non-specific error code
Hi We have version 1.9 on HPUX 10:20 trying to copy from win2000 (just upgraded from winNT). My observations seem to indicate that smallish files cannot be retrieved with get but can with mget, whilst largeish files cannot be retrieved with mget but can with get. The mget results in a truncated files (81679 bytes). This does not make a lot of sense to me. I will appreciate hearing from anyone

Microsoft will enter VoIP market in earnest next year, says Ballmer
http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/siliconvalley/business/international/as ia/15944981.htm There's not much in the article so only click through if super interested but I'm curious and looking for people's opinions. What application integration would you like to see between MS (either Office or other aspects of the vista/xp OS) and Asterisk. Apart from dial from outlook and

Strange performance issues under CentOS 5.1
I am still running CentOS 4.6 on our production systems, but I am starting to plan the upgrade to CentOS 5.1. I have one test system running 5.1 that is the exact same hardware configuration as my 4.6 test system. One of our builds runs about 6 times slower on the 5.1 system, even though is uses less overall CPU time. I first suspected something wrong with the disk, but the results

Problem with smbclient->MSDOS Server
Hi All, Here's an interesting one... I need to be able to connect smbclient on a linux machine to a dos based machine, which is running MSCLIENT and the WG1049 patch. I can browse to the machine and see all the files from Network Neighbourhood in Windows, but if I try and go in with: smbclient \\GAUGE1\C, or even just smbclient -L GAUGE1 all I get is: Added interface ip=10.0.1.1

Redundant Rsync?
Is there a way to tell rsync that if it does not have contact with a certain rsync server to continue on to another for file requests? I imagine something like this, where you define two servers as the source... /usr/local/bin/rsync {serv1,serv2}::src dest ...proposing that 1. Should serv1 be down when the sync is originally started, that serv2 be contacted after a timeout. 2. Not so

NetApp Toaster w/ SMBCLIENT
The problem you describe below is fixed in Data NOTAP 5.3x. If you're on an older version, you might want to upgrade. There's another issue, though. The fix for which should be in the next release of Data ONTAP, which isn't far off (sorry for being vague). If you're interested in a good NetApp mailing list that's not run by NetApp, drop an email to:

Hi all! I'm using Samba 3.0.2a with CUPS serving about 50 win98 clients... All my printers works fine though samba/cups, but sometimes nobody can print in a certain netword printer. I open my CUPS (http://localhost:631) and see the printer stoped (not always) and always with one of the errors messsages above: Printer state: Idle, accepting jobs "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will
