64 bit filesystems (Specifically Irix 6.2)
Following the posting by spd@gtc1.cps.unizar.es (J.A. Gutierrez) in SAMBA digest 1482 I compiled samba-1.9.17p4 under Irix 6.2 using the -fullwarn flag. There are around 2000 lines of warnings and messages - quite a few are due to 64 bit file systems but there are unused variables, missing prototypes, etc as well. For example: mode_t != int elements of struct statvfs are unsigned long, rather

samba-2.0.0-alpha1 on SGI Irix 6.2
Just compiled samba-2.0.0-alpha1 on SGI Irix 6.2 (using vendor cc). It compiles and is running. Did env CC=cc CFLAGS=-n32 configure --prefix=/var make make install Initially, I tried to build outside the source tree but this failed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (Mr) David Billinghurst Comalco Research and Technical Support PO Box 316, Thomastown, Vic, Australia, 3074 Phone: +61

RE: Q: winbindd, unqualfied users, & name conflicts (a.k.a "Deathto 'winbind use default domain'!")
My opinion: Local users should always take precedence. People should specifically refer to local users as <SambaHostName>\localuser, if that is the form the SMB client insists on sending. Tacking on default domains and/or stripping domains to/from user names and "trying them out" is playing fast and loose with user identity and is a breeding ground for potential security holes.

Samba on Sequent ptx v4.*
Hi, I just thought I'd mention a few hints I picked up recently while compiling Samba for ptx recently for a client: FLAGSM = -DSEQUENT_PTX4 -DSHADOW_PWD -DHAVE_TIMEZONE not -DSEQUENT -DPTX4 as in the Makefile. Get hold of the latest version of TCP (v4.2.1 is supposed to be OK for both ptx4.1.x and 4.2.x), since it includes BSD sockets which were about three times faster than the old

prototype.js: Safari issues with 1.5.0 rc1
I''m using scriptaculous, which requires prototype 1.5.0, and comes with 1.5.0 rc1. However, on page load and when any form is submitted, Safari is getting caught at line 1320, with ReferenceError: Can''t find variable: HTMLFormElement. Tested with Safari 2.0.4 and latest WebKit nightly (r16463). Perhaps there is a newer rc? I can''t seem to find anything at all in the

NT - Not allowed from this workstation
I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the 3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1). When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I will recevie an error message saying that:

username maps and security=ads
I have been having problems with username maps and security=ads. I now have a solution (or at least a work around) that is working for me. I sort of stumbled across it, as I don't recall reading any samba docs that mentions the need to have the realm name in the smbuser file. Samba server is RHEL3 with samba-3.0.20 compiled from source authenticating against a windows ADS. Here is the

simple tbf rate clamping issues
Hello, I was attempting to throttle egress traffic to a specific rate using a tbf. As a starting point I used an example from the LARTC howto, which goes: tc qdisc add dev eth1 root tbf rate 220kbit latency 50ms burst 1540 I then attempt a large fetch from another machine via wget (~40 megs) and the rate was clamped down to about 12Kbytes/s. As this seemed too much, I gradually increased

SAMBA digest 1364/ commercial ads
Hi everybody on this list, First of all, I would like to say that this list is the most valuable of all lists to me. Because of that, I am concerned about the increasing number of unwanted and mostly commercial postings to that list. Is there no way to prohibit that ? Small Problem has me Pulling my Hair out
Hello, I am sorry to write into you guys so late but I am baffled here. I had this SAMBA server blasting along a month ago with a DOMAIN at my NOC in Austin. Then I brought it to a new site and it no worky. Yes, the DOMAIN is different and I have been battling all day to reconfigure this thing to the domain. I have lost the battle and have reverted to basic configs which still do not
