NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get
NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but
not quite.
Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1.
Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly
from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did
have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

coding volunteers needed for msrpc server-side API conversion
ok, people, i _really_ need help with this. i estimate that if i work on
this full-time it's going to take about... two weeks.
i have one volunteer for the samr functions. it's been two days, already,
and i'm only half-way through samr.
that means, nothing else gets done, and samba-tng current cvs is broken
because the _samr_lookup_rids() function goes into an infinite loop on
that

Help with prioritizing internet Cafe Terminals
Hi All,
I am new to tc so please forgive me. I have read as much documentation
as I can get my hands on, but I still have problems with getting the
rules right. Here is my scenario:
Internet Cafe/Office
4 Internet Cafe Terminals
3 Office Terminals
Leased Line connectivity at 64Kbps.
What I would like to have:
All Cafe terminals have priority to the internet over the office
machines. Each

NT profiles on samba server
Hi, there,
I put roaming profiles for NT4 users on samba server.
In "Domain User Manager", I set "User profile Path" \\abel\profile\%U.pds,
here abel is samba server.
It works well, but everyday several users complain. Sometime, they cannot login because of
roaming profiles. Sometimes, some users cannot run VC or VB.
Sometime, I only need to remove ntuser.dat on samba

WANTED: Technical NT Security Info
NT uses proprietary encryption mechanisms to protect passwords and to
authenticate users. There is no one source of information on these
schemes outside of Microsoft.
If anyone has any information on any of the following or any other topics
that they would like to see published as a White Paper, please contact

The paper will include as comprehensive a list of these mechanisms as

"attack" (manage) NT domain using the linux tools?
rpcclient sound cool. I am running 2.0.6 Samba. 'rpcclient' exists with it
but a call to 'man rpcclient' gets no results. Could it be that the man
pages are in a later release?

occasionally i feel like i and other people would like to know how samba
is being used. if you feel so inclined, could people kindly let us know
some of the things below (pick one or more or all), such as:
- a brief description of your organisation.
- what you use samba for (e.g as file servers; login servers; backup
purposes or remote admin with smbclient or rpcclient).
- what version(s) of

Server string in Network Neighbourhood
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is the string that appears in browser lists restricted to being a single string without spaces, or can you include spaces ?
I have samba v1.9.15p8 running on a SGI O2 system, and I'm accessing its filesystems from a W95 PC.
I started off with the following line in my /etc/init.d/samba script
NMBD_OPTS="-C11th Floor SGI O2"

Internet Cafe tcp and udp sharing
Hi guys,
I run an internet cafe with 40 odd computers in it and would like some
sugestions on sharing the data evenly for udp and tcp data.
Currently i have all tcp data put into a class thats half our link speed and
udp data doesnt get class''d at all. which works well but also means that the
line doesnt get shared in terms of bandwidth evenly.
What i would like tho is to setup a

shaping a ciber cafe
Hi,
I''m looking for a script in order to do
traffic control on a ciber cafe LAN, with
linux router.
Ciber has about 40 hosts, and I haven''t much
bandwidth (512kbit).
Also, I''ve a squid cache and it works very good!
I''ve found Jim QoS script, and FairNat.
Which is more suitable for me ?
Jim QoS ? FairNat ? other ?
If I put FairNat, I would need ZPH patch

i fixed a problem with nmbd's GETDC response, it is responding better but
still not perfectly (and 2.0.x and cvs main need to be fixed, as well) as
there exists no explanation for the correct response to locate a Domain
Controller using GETDC.
the upshot of fixing this is that joining an nt workstation to a TNG
domain is now _extremely_

Vulnerabilities needed in Windows NT!
your assistance is needed to crash Windows NT.
i have now been working for internet security systems for a year. part of
my job is to produce a confidential report to microsoft of any
vulnerabilities found in Windows NT.
once a fix is available then microsoft releases a report. or if too much
time goes by for a serious problem (e.g six months and it's an anonymous
denial of service attack)

UMASK Problems
I have quite a problem with the new SAMBA version(s) ( both 1.9.17
and 1.9.17 p2).
When creating a directory in a samba-mounted
unix file system the create mask entry will be ignored. I tried
a lot (changing umasks on the unix boxes (SunOS/Solaris), changing
the create mask entry to a many different values) but nothing
happens at all. Every directory will be created with the permissions
of 755.

RPC client on unix, server on NT
I'm writing a secure RPC Server for NT, and I'd like to write a
UNIX client. How can I have the UNIX client authenticate to
the NT server (which uses LAN Manager/SMB)?
Thanks,

Why \pipe\MKSPipe ?
I've got Source Integrity installed on our network and at least one person
is having a problem checking files in.
A tcpdump shows that the client is trying to open \pipe\MKSPipe (MKS is the
Source Integrity Manufacturer). SAMBA (of course) replies with:
SMBError = ERRSRV - ERRaccess (The requester does not have the necessary
access rights within the specified context for the requested
