sftp/scp performance testing
Folks, I've noticed poor performance using sftp. If anyone has any advice on how to improve performance, I'd like to hear it. Test simply involved transferring a single 143MB MP3 file using defaults for all the program configs. The opensshd 3.0.2p1 server is used in all tests. Software: openssh suite 3.0.2p1 psftp (putty sftp client) latest dev snapshot pscp (putty scp client) latest

linux sockets on centos (slightly off topic)
Hi all, I have a snippit from the linux sockets (below) talking about detecting when a socket is closed on the other end. It says the doing a read() will eventually inform you the socket is ECONNRESET. I am not seeing this I open a socket to the peer. I UNPLUG the peer. I plug back in the peer. all the time I am doing read()'s on linux and I get returns of -1 and errno is EINTR from the

use of setsockopt(SO_LINGER)
I would like to remove setsockopt(SO_LINGER), as there does not seem to be a reason for its use. If you know of specific reasons we should keep any of these let me know, or run this patch in local test trees where possible. This is against OpenBSD, but should apply to portable with some fuzz. klibc build trouble
as the next klibc release 1.5.16 looks like shaping up, I have a trouble to build that for Debian. currently I build depent on linux-libc-dev, I don't know what against I can build latest klibc, see klibc fails to build due too: make -C linux/ ARCH=x86_64 INSTALL_HDR_PATH=debian/tmp/usr/lib/klibc/ headers_install make[3]: *** No rule to make target `headers_install'. Socket options not properly set for ssh and sshd.
I mentioned this problem in a previous post (in November). This time I'm including a patch. Version: OpenSSH_2.3.0p1 Keywords: setsockopt keepalive hang masquerade interactive Symptom: For protocol 2, socket options (especially keepalive) are not being properly set for OpenSSH_2.3.0p1, even when request in the config files. Furthermore (for either protocol), keepalive is only set for

A little utility for checking socket settings
I've been in discussion with a colleague who had to reduce (!) SO_SNDBUF to get decent performance, and so wrote this little tool. It tells you the system default for most of the settable socket options. It can't do linger, as the value is a struct instead of an int, but that's probably uninteresting to Samba folks. Run this to see what you'd have if you didn't set any

Socket behavior change from 6.5 to 6.6
I will try to explain this as best I can. I have two computers; one a Supermicro X10SAE running CentOS 6, the other a very old DOS box.[*] The DOS box runs a CCD camera, sending images via Ethernet to the X10SAE. Thus, the X10SAE runs a Python server on port 5700 (a socket which binds to 5700 and listens, and then accepts a connection from the DOS box; nothing fancy).[**] The DOS box connects to

use AT320 international call
Hi all, The firmware I used is pa168s_iax2_us_151011.bin. My problem is the handset dial before I finished key in all the numbers, no matter how fast I managed to press the keys. It appeared it always dialed immediately, for example "011862", when I actually ment to dial 0118620xxxxxxxx. Thus left the remaining numbers "0xxxxxxxx" unsent. The handset had its dial plan

"writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes to socket"
I'm attempting to maintain a mirror of a remote database, ~ 66Gb on a FreeBSD platform. I do not have direct access to the database except by rsync, anon. ftp etc. I'm running rsync nightly from crontab, with the cmd /usr/local/bin/rsync -avvv --port=33444 ftp.filesource.org::ftp . >> rsynclog generated the following in the cron report First error [1] rsync error: received SIGINT,

sendmail: clientmqueue directory storing massive messages, not being cleared
I just got done sending 42,000 e-mail messages that were rotting away in /var/spool/clientmqueue. I figured out the command to do so was "sendmail -L sm-msp-queue -Ac -q30m". I never even knew that directory existed. I thought everything queued was kept in /var/spool/mqueue (which, I might add is being taken care of on a regular basis.. just seems the problem lies in the

rsync 3.0.7 intermittent failures with many large files
I have recently changed the version of rsync I use from the ancient 2.6.6 to 3.0.7. Every since then it seems to me that I am getting more rsync failures than before. Hopefully, other people can share their experiences and point to the cause which, I acknowledge, might be me doing something wrong. The rsync error long indicates things like: rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092
