rsyncd.conf chroot yes problem with symlink-ing
Hy there, My name is Alex Vladulescu, and i found this very interesting tool for backup files and folders over remote network servers. For the past four days i have been reading the FAQ on the site, google-ing the web for some answers on my local problem, but i am very stuck, nothing seems to answer my question so far. My issue consists on having a rsyncd.conf on a master server on which i

Possible exclude bug in 2.5.5 in rsyncd.conf
Hello all, I've found some behavior in 2.5.5 that is contrary to the documentation in the man page. Specifically, I'm running an rsync server (i.e. from inetd with --daemon),and in the module definition I'm specifying the line "exclude nosyncdir". The documentation for rsyncd.conf indicates that this is exactly equivalent to using "--exclude nosyncdir" on the

rsyncd log in common log format?
I'm having trouble getting rsync to output the log into common log format. My web statistics program Webalizer (www.webalizer.org) wants the logs in Common Log Format (httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_log_common.html). Briefly, that's a string host ident authuser date request status bytes subject to some conditions (for instance, the date is in square brackets). My rsyncd.conf file has

Size Limit in rsyncd.conf File?
I've got an rsyncd.secrets file with 59 accounts in it. Almost all these need to be enabled concurrently. My rsyncd.conf thus has an auth users field with upward of 50 values. I'm starting to wonder at what point I'll have maxed that field out, especially as we're taking on new accounts all the time. Incidentally, whether or not there is a limit, is it possible to do some

Hi, I've having some difficulty using rsync from a client to a rsyncd Server (RedHat 7.2). Although the same command works fine on the server. Server mode and rsyncd.conf
When rsync is used in remote-shell server mode, the documentation says: "Rsync supports connecting to a host using a remote shell and then spawning a single-use "daemon" server that expects to read its config file in the home dir of the remote user." I have been trying to make rsync read a config file (which I presume should be named rsyncd.conf) in the home directory of the

remote rsyncd modules and --link-dest
Can anyone shed any light on what I should expect from rsync when the --link-dest option is invoked when the destination is a remote rsync module? i.e. rsync --archive --delete --link-dest=../dst_1/ /src/ user@host::xyz/dst_0 I almost expected to get a whole lot of hard links in dst_1 to unchanged files in dst_0... if I skip rsyncd on the server side (i.e. make the target

passing rsyncd password in a script (no ssh) - how?
I want to transfer files from a Windows server running rsyncd to a local Linux machine. It has no SSH, so I can't use keys. I need credentials to access files on the rsyncd server, so I thought using "expect" to pass a password in a script is the obvious choice: /usr/bin/expect <<! set timeout -1 spawn rsync --partial -a rsync://username@server/share/dir /local/copy

Question about multiple hosts in hosts allow in rsyncd.conf
Hi, First off, if you are going to reply, please send a copy to my email address, as I have not subscribed to this list. I have a setup that I use for backups, and right now one of the servers that needs to back up can't seem to connect to the rsync server. I know all the possible IP's the server could use, so I added a hosts allow line (since I deny connections by default) to include
