more transitional joys
well, now that I have moved to dovecot, I'm not getting any spam... in fact, I'm not getting e-mail at all. default_mail_env =mbox:~/IMap2/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u when I first tried to access my inbox, I was told I had permission problems: Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): open(/var/spool/mail/esj.lock) failed: Permission denied Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): file_lock_dotlock()

did the conversion and something broke
figures. Converted over to maildir today. Procmail is a piece of cake once I managed to pride out of its cold dead fingers the essential tiny bit of documentation I needed. But I'm having a problem with my nested directories. I have a directory called incoming sort my incoming mail. The conversion utility created a bunch of files called incoming.<stuff> and 1 file is visible

joys of transition.
Red Hat 8.0 stock dovecot 99.10 for a variety of reasons, I decided to cut over to dovecot this morning. I extracted all of my mailboxes from mbx purgatory back to mbox purgatory, set up dovecot and proceed to get authentication failures. (am using simple password based authentication either direct or through pam) I turned authentication verbosity on and got: Aug 14 11:51:38 harvee dovecot:

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc. especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo. I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC 3000 (sans

choosing a UPS (in the United States)
I do a bunch of "kindness of strangers" hosting in my basement and my three kVA apc unit died recently. In looking around, it looked like Belkin was a reasonable low-end replacement for a few machines. Then I read this mailing list after I purchased one and was gifted another. It looks like people don't like Belkin. ;-) So the question is what's a good UPS for running

belkin Q:
I'm trying to set up a belkin f6c1100-unv UPS to work with nuts. From reading the mailing list, it sounds like the belkinunv serial driver should work and that the USB driver is potentially troublesome. Is this a correct impression? Also I may have missed this but if I do go with the serial (or USB port) is there any simple command line method for verifying basic connectivity? The

Maildir and Mail at the same time.
I am trying to use Maildir format for My inbox and be able to save the messages in ~/Mail. Problem is dovecot only show the Maildir mailboxes not the ~/Mail formatted boxes. How can I get this to work? If I use namespace or something how would this be configured I cannot find much documentation that explains it well enough. example: what would I have to configure in dovecot.conf or

conversion to maildir
is really a royal pain in the butt. most of the conversion tools only do a partial job. mb2md seems to be the best but it does not convert the from line correctly unless you are using exim for an MTA. It also does not get the file status right so everything is written to the new maildir directory. something else that makes the process painful is when you have folders containing mailboxes.

Windows 2003 Cygwin Netapp remote filesystem
Amongst various problems I am having, I am trying to run an rsync daemon on a windows 2003 server with cygwin installed. It works fine, except that I can't seem to get the daemon to chdir to any file that is remotely mounted from my Netapp. Other windows shares or local disks chdir just fine. very weird. I think it has something to do with the automapping of shares in cygwin. Any help

Naturally speaking under wine help needed
[[apologies if this is a dupe. gmane is a bit odd sometimes]] I need some help on a handicap accessibility project. It's really great for people like me that naturally speaking is working in wine (mostly). One important shortcoming is getting our dictated text into linux. Today, in order to copy text from the wine environment and place it in the Linux environment, we need to dictate into

Asterisk with Draytek 2600V
I am unable to get a my Draytek working with our Asterisk server. I can make/recieve calls but get no audio. I have tried the various codecs at the Vigor end but still getting nothing. I looked at sip debug (below) but am new to Asterisk and don't really know what I am looking for. Asterisk works fine with XLITE so I know my installation is ok. Sip read: INVITE

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox. In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40 percent for Mozilla

Yet another rsync incremental thread
Hello all, Since the rsync on Panther many things changed in my professional life. This project is abandoned although it should work. But this you already know. What's new? On my new job I have several servers to administrate. Servers that aren't backed up (sic). So, there's why I'm back to rsync. The backup plan I would like: 1) Client side: PCs running rsync (or

cwRsync on windows
Hi folks, It may be a very basic question for many people here but I have been struggling with Windows commandline. My CentOS machines are running perfectly fine. Question: I have installed cwRsync server on one of Windows 2003 and cwRsync client on the other Windows 2003. What command should I run to connect to the cwRsync server from the client? and how can I make sure that cwRsync is even

File/Folder Ownership - Cygwin/Rsync - Is it possible to get around rsync taking file ownership?
Case point: 2 Servers (both with Windows Server 2k3 & cygwin). Running ssh on the destination server. Problem: The rsync user will take ownership over any files copied over from the source server. This takes ownership away from the administrators group, thus disallowing inherited permissions. Is there any way around not taking ownership away from the administrators group and giving it to the

RSync on Windows 2003
Hello, I'm desperately trying to have a RSync server work on a Windows 2003 Standard Server. All the documentation available I have found applies to Windows NT/2000/XP I don't know whether 2003 works differently from the previous Windows. I have installed the cwrsync package. The RSyncServer Service is running fine under a user account named cwrsync. A successful Telnet on the port 873

Help understanding rsync and cwrsync
Hi all, we are just beginning to dive into rsync. I have limited experience with just playing around with the examples and reading all the docs that I can. I just read an interesting post from a developer that mentions cwrsync is a minimalistic rsync and thus things like permissions are not transfered, the post was from 2004. Here are my questions Windows (cw)Rsync Client --> Linux Rsync

Missing smb.conf
I hope that someone can help me with this: I hav always used Samba by installing the binaries. That has worked well. But now I need the SSL-option - so I have to install it from the bottom. I use redhad 6.0 - and samba 2.0.6. First I removed the rpm of the existing installation(and deleted the smb.conf in /etc). Then I gunziped/untared the file in tmp. In the source directory I did the

Accessing a smb server at USER level
Hello! I have been using Samba for 2,5 years now. I have had the same problem since I started - I can not connect the Samba server from a W98 pc when the server security level is set to USER. So I have dropped security and use SHARE instead. I can see the share from the Window-client, but when I try to double click i get an error message saying: "Write networkpassword: , Resourse:

Backup Windows to Linux with ACL
Hello, I am trying to Backup a Windows Machine to a Linux Server - and I want to preserve the ACLs. I installed the cwRsync server on the Windowsside (with the rsync-acl.exe) and I am trying to backup this machine from the linux-side usind rsnapshot. But the files lose the acls and get user:400 and group:401! Did anybody manage this task? If yes - how??????? Thanks in advance Fink Oliver
