Dir-merge exclude filter ignored when rsync DEST ends in /.
Hi, I encountered this behavor when switching my excludes from global exclude filter rules to dir-merge rules. If the spezified DEST directory has a trailing dot dir the exclude filter rule "exclude /foobar" inherited from dir-merge is ignored and the file gets deleted. But I'm not quite sure if this behavor is a bug or feature. Test: $ mkdir src $ touch src/object $ echo

Intermittent connection failure
Hi, i have sporadic connection problems with my rsync server. I have _no_ firewall involved and there is _no_ max connections set. rsync on the clients is started from cron via a bash script. There's also no permission problem. rsyncd runs as daemon (is not started from inetd). It sometimes works, but every third or fourth rsync fails with this message: rsync: failed to connect to

the vendor dir, gems and openid
Dear all, I am currently developing an application which uses OpenID as a login system. On my development box everything works like a charm. But as soon as I deploy the code to our production server things go wrong. First the OpenID gem could not be located. This made sense as it is not installed on the production server, so after some browsing it appeared that I needed: $ cd

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order? --backup-dir-dels breaks compatibility
I wrote a script that uses rsync a bit and wanted to use it. While testing was fine, the real life was more complicated :) Basically, my rsync command looks like that: rsync -v -azu -b --backup-dir /var/backup/files/ /var/profiles/files/ username@host:/ When I execute it where both machines have rsync 2.6.3, everything runs fine. When I execute it on a machine with rsync 2.6.6, and the remote

Samba can't access dir - SELinux problem?
Hello, I was using CentOS 5.5 as a "playground" VM at my WinXP notebook and now I'm migrating to a new CentOS 5.6 install and everything has worked well - except samba. I have this very permissive config to export my ~/src dir: # cat /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] guest ok = yes guest account = afarber security = share hosts allow = 172.16.6. 127.0.0.1 [src]

Lost sub-mailboxes - not showing after upgrading to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP
Last night we migrated from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot 1.2RC5 and all seems to work fairly well, but I seem to have lost all my mailboxes apart from INBOX. The maildirs are all on the HD in the correct place (/usr/local/virtual/bordo.com.au/jlbrown): mail:jlbrown root# ls -l total 21400 drwxrwxr-x 13 _vmail _postfix 442 Jun 4 00:11 .4D drwxrwxr-x 14 _vmail _postfix 476 Jun

Maildir parent directory permissions incorrect for new mailbox
Hi, My issue is with the automatic creation of parent directories above new maildirs. It seems to be that they're being set with incorrect (or unhelpful) permissions, applying the permissions of the mailbox down the path towards the mailbox root, as opposed to taking the permissions of the mailbox root up towards the mailbox. Our mail is stored under the scheme: location =

permissions bug w/ --backup-dir or --backup option?
Running rsync 2.4.7pre1, using the --backup-dir option, I just realized today that file ownerships and permissions of backed up files are not preserved. In other words, if rsync moves an obsolete file to the backup dir, it's ownership seems to revert to root:root, and permissions change, as well. We are also using the -a (archive) option, by the way, which should mean "preserve

Mahalanobis distances
Dear R community Have just recently got back into R after a long break and have been amazed at how much it has grown, and how active the list is! Thank you so much to all those who contribute to this amazing project. My question: I am trying to calculate Mahalanobis distances for a matrix called "fgmatrix" >dim(fgmatrix) [1] 76 15 >fg.cov <- cov.wt(fgmatrix)
