Can rsync update files in place?
I've just subscribed, but a search of the archive doesn't indicate this
has been handled before...
Is there a way to get rsync to not create a new file while transferring
and then rename it, but to instead update the existing file in place,
i.e. simply write those blocks that have been updated and leave the rest
alone?
That would be ideal for what I wanted rsync for, namely updating

Need a CONFIRMED working hardware sata raid10 card
Does anyone know of a card that actually works with CentOS 4
that supports Raid10? I don't think CentOS support software raid 10 from
the installer.
Thanks,

Hi all!
I'm syncing a windows share from a NetApp filer to a local partition on
my RHEL3 box. I observe the following behavior:
- rsync syncs more than neccessary, files that haven't changed since years
- files that have been synced, aged for an hour or two on the netapp host
Environment:
cifs share mounted to /backup/sync (mount -t smbfs -o
username=user,password=pwd //server/share

Updating Dovecot package?
Does anyone know if upstream ever plans on updating the dovecot package to a non RC version or to even one of the RC versions that isn't so insecure,
And by insecure, I of course refer to the recent rash of bugs which have been found.
Thanks,

Multi-machine mirroring choices
With the introduction of zfs to FreeBSD 7.0, a door has opened for more
mirroring options so I would like to get some opinions on what direction
I should take for the following scenario.
Basically I have 2 machines that are "clones" of each other (master and
slave) wherein one will be serving up samba shares. Each server has one
disk to hold the OS (not mirrored) and then 3 disks, each

multi-homed samba PDC and NetApp filers
We are having a problem getting a NetApp filer to re-join a samba
domain after a move to a new network. The filer worked fine with
samba before the move. Apologies in advance for the long missive.
I've tried the following:
- re-running the CIFS setup program on the filer
- removing the problem filer's samba account, replacing it, and
re-running the setup program on the filer

Feature list between 5.2 and 5.3
does anyone know if (and where) a feature list of the changes between CentOS 5.2 and 5.3 can be found?
All of the documentation that I could find on centos.org is related to 5.2 and 5.1
thanks,

SAMBA with NetApp filer
I'm newbies in SAMBA and NetApp filer , I use Filer with OpenLDAP as an
authentication and authorization server , but look like NetApp doesn't
work properly
( can't authentication ) , NetApp engineer suggest me that NetApp work
properly with pure
ActiveDirectory Environment. not SAMBA + OpenLDAP backend like me have.
so I solve this problem by make Samba as native PDC and use

Peculiarities of COW over COW?
We run our IMAP spool on ZFS that''s derived from LUNs on a Netapp
filer. There''s a great deal of churn in e-mail folders, with messages
appearing and being deleted frequently. I know that ZFS uses copy-on-
write, so that blocks in use are never overwritten, and that deleted
blocks are added to a free list. This behavior would spread the free
list all over the zpool. As well,

Intel DH67BL + CentOS 5.5 IRQ #177 nobody cared
Hello,
We have built a couple of CentOS 5.5 systems on the Intel DH67BL (Sandy Bridge) motherboard and overall they work pretty well.
I'm having one problem which keeps cropping up and that is an error message that says:
IRQ 177 nobody cared (try booting with the irqpoll option)
report bad irq, references CPU idle
then it references usb_hcd_irq and e1000_intr
then it disables the add-on

Any work-around for very large number of files yet?
Yes, I've read the FAQ, just hoping for a boon...
I'm in the process of relocating a large amount of data from one nfs server
to another (Network Appliance filers). The process I've been using is to
nfs mount both source and destination to a server (solaris8) and simply use
rsync -a /source/ /dest . It works great except for the few that have > 10
million files. On these I get

migrating samba shares to a netapp filer?
Hello,
I'll soon have to migrate our samba shares to a netapp filer (not my
decision).
Currently the shares are on an xfs filesystem and served by samba 3.5.2,
which is also the domain controller (a role that it will maintain, only
the shares are being transferred) and sama/unix users are in ldap. The
filer is in the domain and uses ldap to map user ids and that seems to work.
Samba maps the

That RTL8169 thing...
Motherboard - Intel DG41TY
Device: RealTek: 8111D
Driver: RTL8169
Causes Kernel panic during install and boot.

It seems that the newer the card that uses this driver, the worse the problems are.
Is there any plan to roll a newer version into the installer or the actual distribution itself?
Thanks,

I/O error when trying to write
My setup is fairly straight forward; I have a Solaris 10 (SPARC) being used
as a samba server with AD sign on. Users can log in fine and map their
directories through windows clients. All the user home dirs and critical
project dirs are on a NetAPP filer.
When user tries to write a file, it is erroring out with I/O error, file
access is permitted for read operations only. Investigating the

Samba compatibility with NetAPP filers.
We are running scripts using smbclient to get some data of NetAPP filer and we run into the output below. After doing some digging, I found that there
is a incompatibility between NetAPP Data ONTAP OS and samba. Is this still the case or there is a fix for it. We are running 3.0.10
Any ideas would be great

Compatibility with NetApp DataONTAP filers?

SET_PATH_INFO is not working on NetApp Filer
Hi,
I'm using samba-3.2.6 on linux. Using this, I'm trying to
update/modify Last Access Time(atime) of a file on CIFS share(on NetApp Filer).
But not able to do so.
I could successfully update atimes on windows server, but NOT on NetApp Filer.
Is SET_PATH_INFO supported by NetApp filer(7.2 version)?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
