link-dest doesn't seem to work properly on MacOSX
I have been trying to use rsyncx to generate a script for rotating backups but it seems to me that the --link-dest option doesn't work properly in my configuration. Instead of creating hard links for all unchanged files it seems that rsync copies everything, as if --link-dest hasn't been specificed. Can somebody clarify what's going on? My script is ptovided below: #rotating backup

rsync backups on Mac OS X - mknod errors + icon disappears...
Hi I am a rsync (on Mac OS X, RsyncX version with extended HFS+/-eahfs forks) beginner (I merely use it for backing up my desktop machine to a bootable external firewire volume, so that I can resume work in case of a harddrive disaster) and I got these messages: mknod "/Volumes/backup/Applications/Plone2/Sites/Default/var/zopectlsock" failed: Invalid argument mknod

Installing RHEL On Laptop.....
Not sure if this is the right place to come to, but I don't have "RHN" support.....I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I have downloaded the RHEL .ios file and burned it to DVD/CD, my laptop is primed to Boot From CD/ROM Drive, I start the installation using the semi-graphical interface, and the first few options are a breeze, then it gets to identifying the CD drive

IPv6 support for Icecast server
Hi, I looked at CVS and this mailing list and didn't find anything regarding IPv6 support. I found old patches from KAME and one IPv6-only implementation (http://www.bugfactory.org/~gav/ipv6/icecast-1.3.11-ipv6.diff.gz) only. Therefore I decided to do this work again and as good as possible. I integrated IPv6 into configure script which allows to use te same code both for IPv4 and IPv6

color in plot title: title(sub="something", col=4)
Is there a way to specify the color of the main title, the subtitle, or the axis labels? I mean, for instance, something like title(main="cougar", col=2) For me, the above command produces the color black; that is, the "col" argument has no effect. rsync incremental backup probs
I am having a problem with implementing a slight modification of the "backup to a central backup server with 7 day incremental" example from <http://rsync.samba.org/examples.html>. When rsync runs, I end up getting stat errors that the file doesn't exist in the backup-dir location. The backup server is running rsyncd, and without the --backup and --backup-dir options set, I

Confusion regarding rsync vs. rsyncx
We currently do backup using rsync amongst Linux and Solaris machines. Modulo an ACL issue that we had to patch, this is working extremely well. But I want to add our OSX machines to the mix. This is, unfortunately, leaving me confused about rsyncx. I can do the normal thing from OSX using rsync. But the page for rsyncx says - cryptically, in my ignorant opinion - that rsyncx adds support for

rsyncX hangs on Mac OS X
I am attempting to backup the Users directory on my desktop running OS X 10.3.6. I am backing up to Jaguar Server 10.2.8. I am using RsyncX version 2.1 on both systems. RsyncX Server is set up to run on both systems however in this instance the Rsync client is my desktop and server is Panther Server. When I kick off an RsyncX session, RsyncX will run for a while, then stop part of the way

rsync-ing on MacOS X.
Hi all, I'm setting up a backup script for my Mac, and I'm wondering about the rsync ability of dealing with HFS+ filesystem (resource-fork and such...). I've searched the mailing list archive for this topic and I've found some thread regarding it, but it's not clear to me what is the actual situation. Is the HFS+ officially supported? Will it be in the near future?

--backup requires remote connection?
Does the --backup, --backup-dir set require that either then source or target be a remote connection? Test folder hierarchy: /Users/localskaiser/source/myfile.txt /Users/localskaiser/source/a/b/c/newfile.txt /Users/localskaiser/target /Users/localskaiser/archive I can not get the following command to work (after running it once, and then modifying newfile.txt): [skaiser-pbg4:~] localska%

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if it's misdirected. Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix applications ignore this information, but it

rsync filling up hardisk on OSX
Hello, I am still ironing out the bugs in my rsync backup soloution. As I said earlier I have it working working initiating from the macs to the linux server, sortof. The sortof part is what I am trying to eliminate. 2 problems: first rsync seems to be filling up the disk on one of my client OSX machines. df showed a little over a gigabyte when i started the backup of the ~=30GB drive I had
