'error in rsync protocol data stream' - Tim Conway
Tim,
I reported a protocol data stream error on 9/8/2002
Deatils are in my postes at that time
rsync still fails everytime I run it.
This time I added three v's as you just suggested and rsync just hung with
two tasks in execution thus:

rsync hangs at the end of the work.
Ok, so I tried with -v -v and -v -v -v, but this does not give more
clue, only much more useless log data.
I still have the problem that with:
rsync -v -auxHS --delete --force / /backup/
I get the following log:

deleting var/cache/man/cat1/gcc.1.gz
deleting var/cache/man/cat1/gawk.1.gz

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the
FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new
questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if
it's misdirected.
Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and
mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix
applications ignore this information, but it

[SPAM] The Infamous "Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working."
When I start my domU, I get the infamous and UNINFORMATIVE! error message:
"Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working."
What could be the cause?
There are strange things occuring. When I boot the host, I can start
zero, one or two VM before it happens (most often zero), and then no
other VM may be started successfully.
It fails the same whether I try to boot

Problem with ActionWebService and UTF-8 encoding
Hello,
I have a Rails App which serve a Soap Web Service with ActionWebService.
I accept 2 string parameters that must contain xml.
The data sent are in UTF-8, but the non-ascii char (é, à ...) in the message
are crippled at the end.
I tested the app, database, html, ... all accept utf-8, a direct http post
works well, but going through the web service broke the content.
I tried to manually set

Guests can't connect to each other
Hi,
I'm using libvirt and qemu on Debian Wheezy. I'm having a strange
behavior. Guests can't connect to each other when they're on the same
host.
On the host I'm using bonding (in active / backup mode) and vlan. It
looks like this :
eth0 \ / macvtap0
bond0 --- vlan222
eth1 / \ macvtap1
So I've got two guests, let's say A and B. When

Auth socket can't listen using ssl
Hi,
I'm using Dovecot 2.2.9 (debian package on testing).
It seems that it's not possible to open an auth socket using ssl. I'm
using this configuration :
service auth {
[...]
inet_listener authxmpp-client {
address = [ips]
port = 5220
}
inet_listener genericauth-client {
ssl = yes
address = [ips]
port = 5221
}
[...]
}
Both ports are running fine. But

STI good or bad for my problem?
Hi. I am currently developing a small course system for student and
teachers. The system is divided in sections and sections have many
messages, comments, documents and schedules. Pretty easy to set up
using ROR, just add some belongs_to and has_many relations. But
everything becomes much more complicated when the section items
(message, comment and so on...) all has comments. And they can also be

modeling...
I''ve tried tackling this many ways on my own and can''t find a good solution:
Breaking it down to something simplier...
Venue
has one address
Person
has one address
Address
belongs to state
Assuming I don''t want to do tables for venue_addresses and person_addresses.
What is the best way to model this using rails... big thing here is i

Crashes maybe due to: "error writing 4 unbuffered bytes"
I have been trying to implement Mike's tutorial on backup with rsync, but
my server has kept crashing in the middle of the rsync transfer.
I am backing up /dev/hda1 to /dev/hdc1 on a SuSe v 7.3 i386 box
Server crashed 8 times. 16 fsck and 8 reboots later I finally got an error
message and a graceful exit from rsync. Somewhere in the middle of the
crashes I compiled and installed the

Unbuffered stdout?
Hello,
I'm running a DOS mode text program under Wine via a Mac OSX Objective-C/Cocoa program. I use NSTask to run Wine and capture stdin, stdout and stderr via NSPipes. I'm having an issue where output from the DOS mode text program doesn't get to the Objective-C/Cocoa program until after the program ends in Wine. I think this is happening because stdout is buffered.
Is there a

performance problem with 3.2.8: unbuffered reads for some users
Hi!
I'm experiencing strange performance problems after upgrading to samba
3.2.8 from 3.0.30.
For all users except smbadmin (who has administrative rights), read
performance is _very_ bad. Looking at the read-requests using filemon
and wireshark, I found out that for those users, every read is handled
transparently (unbuffered) over the net. (I.e. a 2 byte read-request of

unbuffered output?
How do I do unbuffered output from a rails app? I suspect the question
really is "how do I do unbuffered output from ruby" but since it''s for
a rails app here I am:-)
Also if I understand correctly apache >= 1.3 no longer buffers
output?... any thoughts on that also appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Tim

[PATCH nbdkit] vddk: Add support for VIXDISKLIB_FLAG_OPEN_UNBUFFERED.
I suppose we may as well implement the only other flag too ...
It's not clear what this does, something like O_DIRECT I imagine.
