transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812)
Ok, I just setup the log file and this is what I see there: rsync on cdrive/Temp/pix.log from admx (141.214.137.139) transfer interrupted (code 3) at flist.c(812) I had to change [cdrive] from path = "c:\" to path = c: to get rid of '@ERROR: chdir failed' error. I am getting close but still need some help. Thanks in advance. Nishi > -----Original Message----- From:

Exclude
Hi Folks, I'm running rsync between an NT client and a Solaris 7 Server (Ver 2.4.6). I'd like to be able to exclude the following directory: /opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/archivelogs but retrieve /opt/IBMHTTPDLOG My setup is: rsync -av -p -e rsync@server1.cna.com:/opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/ F:/opt/IBMHTTDLOG (client) rsync --daemon --exclude-from=/etc/rsync.exclude (server) What I get is

Update: WARNING: --rsh or -e option ignored when connecting to rsyncdaemon]
the --pasword-file= option is only for passing a password to a rsync server, as you have set up with the rsync --daemon process. Your rsyncd.conf file is fine, too. The problem is that you aren't calling your rsync daemon from your commandline. You are trying to connect via rsync to host as axlink and start a 'rsync --sender' process, to transfer data within the ssh process.

problems between different versions of rsync
Are there issues between different versions of rsync? Specifically I have a 2.4.6 on solaris 8 pushing to a 2.3.0 on solaris 2.6 over ssh(F-Secure version). The issue that I am seeing is that when I use the following command: rsync --delete -rlvp -e ssh2 $localdir user@host:remotedir The user and group are different on both boxes(neither being root). Any help would be appreciated. --Jeff

This is the command I use for rsync: rsync-2.4.6/rsync -arxlHpogDt /usr/ /backup/usr/ --delete I login as root. Any help would be appreciated. -- Ian Kettleborough ian@idk.com

rsync memory usage
Hi, we are using rsync to mirror large trees (>> 50 GB, >> 2 mio files) offsite (rsync -e ssh with forced ssh command on the remote side). The main problem occuring is memory usage (especially as the remote system has no swap space configured for security reasons): It seems that the rsync processes' RSS on both sides increases with the number of files in the tree. Bandwidth Limits
Has anyone noticed that the --bwlimit doesn't really work? I have MRTG stats happening, and on a 128Kbps circuit, an rsync with the following syntax takes up the whole line. $ rsync -avz -e ssh localfiles.tar.gz user@remote:/path/to/file/arch Any ideas? It's on an OpenBSD box going to a FreeBSD box. Both are 2.4.6. -#0

Connection Timeout
This is my first post so first of all I will say hello to everyone. I have rsync configured and working properly on my local network however when I try to connect from a remote host (one located in a different state) the connection times out. I was wondering if there was another way to set the timeout besides in the rsyncd.conf file? As I said the connection works fine on the internal lan, but

times difference causes write
Using rsync-2.4.6: Is a times difference supposed to cause a write? Also -t vs -I makes no difference. Below shows the problem, I think: [dmahurin@pc16 /tmp]$ mkdir x y [dmahurin@pc16 /tmp]$ cp /bin/ls x [dmahurin@pc16 /tmp]$ ls -l x/ls -rwxr-xr-x 1 dmahurin users 43024 Nov 13 12:46 x/ls [dmahurin@pc16 /tmp]$ rsync -vrtW x/ y building file list ... done ./ ls ./ wrote 43112 bytes

modules madness / ssh regardless of daemon
I just installed rsync on two machines, I think I'm a complete moron, and I need a clue bat. unexpected EOF in read_timeout (was Re[2]: [Fwd: Re: meaning of "IO Error: skipping the delete...."]])
This is where it sets a sort of 60 second timeout if you don't set a timeout at all. As far as what it affects, I'm not that good with the code. I just know that my big syncs would die in almost exactly 1 minute unless I specified a timeout, and then would die at that timeout until i got it very large. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tools@willy

I am planning on rsyncing between 3 different computers that all have the same username, but different passwords. Is there a way to specify which user from which host belongs to which password? Or do I have to use different users between the 3 boxes? Thanks for the help, Mike

SIGUSR1 or SIGINT error
Howdy, We occassionally get the following error when running our nightly backups: rsync error: received SIGUSR1 or SIGINT (code 20) at rsync.c(229) This happens more on one or two machines than on any of the others. We've looked high and low to see if we're mistakenly sending these signals, but nothing is that we can find. Does anyone know what this might be from? Is it the server

problems preserving permissions -
Hi All, I recently installed Rsync to perform backup features - this includes backing up a /home dir and keeping ownerships/permissions intact is obviously very important.... However when I perform. (current working path is /home) rsync -azv --progress --stats * andrew@192.168.0.2::tmp/home and on the server side of things... I have it setup like so - motd file = /etc/rsyncd.motd
