Setting up Samba on Red Hat Linux 6.1
pn] I'm trying to set up Samba on a Linux Red Hat 6.1 machine. Other
machines on my network are NT4 and Win98. I generally followed a NHT,
except that I have a domain using user-level access for shares instead of a
share-level access. I couldn't get it to work, and tried diagnosing it
using the document at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html.
Several tests are not working as

Extreme samba newbie needs help
Hi,
I am having some troubles setting samba up nicely on my Slackware 7.1
machine. It is currently just a web/ftp server mainly for my personal use
at home. I downloaded the tarball samba-2.0.7 and did everything to install
it "properly." I edited services to include:
netbios-ns 137/tcp # NETBIOS Name Service
netbios-ns 137/udp
netbios-dgm

Re: [linux-lvm] lvm deadlock with 2.4.x kernel?
I think I have this one solved, I hope.
I think what Andreas and I are running into are a few different
assertions. One being the LVM lvm_do_pv_flush caused assertion which is
related directly to invalidate_buffers() being called which then triggers
refile_buffer() on a journaled buffer, which appears clean in all other
ways according to the checks in refile_buffer().
The following is what

New Printing Howto collection is soooo good!!! (I learn a lot from theory)
Hi, I must say that i admire very much the printing documentation written by
one of your samba team. I wish
every documentations is like this! -- It explains to a newbie like me what
I need to know. It is amazing: i read
it and in my head a few questions start to go round. I read 1 page more and
the questions are answered. It is not
good that the other documentation pages of the howto

Why deliver+usercheck? deliver+MTA?
Hi,
I successfully configured dovecot using virtual users (and LDAP/AD).
deliver is the LDA and verifies if the user exists (as recommended in
the WIKI).
However, the howtos in the Wiki say *nothing* about the case that the
recipients should be verified *before* receiving the messages (prevent
backscatter, ...). All configurations in the dovecot-Wiki (postfix and
exim) just accept the mails

Hi guys,
Is there any way to mount an ext3 fs that is on ro media?
I get an error:
EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
EXT3-fs: write access unavailable, cannot proceed.
Specifically this is with an LVM snapshot.

2 questions, frame size and SPEEX_GET_LOOKAHEAD
Ok, let me first explain why 5ms matters, even they are 0's, in my
particular application.
I am working on a speech synthesis system. The basic idea is
concatenating pre-recorded phonemes or words into longer sentences. So
any missing or extra samples, even it is as short as 5~10ms, cause
very noticeable discontinuities.
I want to use speex to compress/decompress those pre-recorded

Security issues when rsyncing directories as root
Hi,
I am using rsync to keep two directores on two servers in sync. Machine
A, the "client" is the one where the rsync process is invoked, which
then logs into Machine B, the "server" as root with ssh and a key. The
key is restricted in /root/.ssh/authorized_keys to a script that checks
wither $SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND matches the rsync --server command that I
expect, such as, for

function table
Hi,
my problem is the following:
I have a large database of insurance-damage data and want to model the
frequency of these events. So to fit a distribution on my frequency-data I
want to count the number of events in each month via the date of occurrence.
Therefor I use this command which works very well:
count_table <- table(months(date_occ),years(date_occ))
But there is another

lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now.
I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start.
It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages
concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel.
Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore?
Any solution?

2 questions, frame size and SPEEX_GET_LOOKAHEAD
Hi, Andras,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, I am aware of those issues. I probably
should have been more accurate on my usage of terms. Actually in my
project, the unit collection is a mixture of diphones and words.
However seems to me, these synthesizer specific issue is irrelevant to
my question about speex. As you said, i merely use speex as storage
methods. All I ask for is to get the

Samba Newbie
I'm in the process of beginning to set up Samba with the aid of the book
Special Edition Using Samba. The problem that I have is that I cannot
get the service to run.
I am using Red Hat 7.2 - kernel 2.4.9-13.
I modified the smb.conf file and get the following when running the
"testparm" command:
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf

gluster store and autostart - but fails
hi all
I've a few guest which work/run perfectly fine, I believe,
except for autostart.
Configuration of system, gluster and libvirt is pretty
regular and not complex.
Errors I see:

ext3 on an logical volume - snapshot using how?
Hi everybody!
I'm using LVM and ext3 and am very satisfied with it.
But now I have the following problem:
I have a filesystem on a LV which is in use -
files are created, modified and so on.
To do a backup I'd like to create a snapshot
of this volume which gets backup'd and then dropped.
# lvcreate -s -L 20M -n snapshot /dev/vg/data

CentOS and SL, together?

You do understand the redistribution issues with Java, correct?
It's a Sun problem (a typical thorn for Red Hat in general), not a Red Hat one.

Problem booting Dom0
Hi,
Thanks to everyone involved in the Xen project. I think it is great
and can''t wait to get my hands dirty with it. In the meantime, I
cannot boot Dom0 on an ibm x335 and I am not sure what the problem is.
Any insights are welcome.
Here is what my grub.conf file looks like:

doc/lit ws consumption
I am new to ruby and rails. I am having trouble consuming a java web
service with the soap/wsdlDriver library.
My java web service, FooService, has one method, search(String).
I am sending the data from a form to this method in my controller:
def search
searchTerm = params[:searchTerm]
factory = SOAP::WSDLDriverFactory.new("http://localhost:8080/services/FooService?wsdl")

AWS WSDL Client Consumption
Has anyone had any great success in consuming web services from within
ruby? I have had little to no problems publishing a WSDL based web
service to the outside world from within ruby, however now I am
attempting to consume the same ruby published web service with the AWS
client back into ruby, and I am having problem after problem.
Is there perhaps a help document or some manual that has a

[LLVMdev] reducing llc's memory consumption
We are processing some fairly large, e.g. 10s of MB, bitcode files with llc,
which result in peak memory use of several GBs.
We would like to ameliorate this somewhat.
On one end of the spectrum we could look into reducing the size of common
data structures and local space optimization.
On the other end we could try to switch the MCAssembler from a model
where it processes the entire Module at
