[BASIC] Solution of creating a sequence of object names
Dear R-users,
I state that this is for beginners, so you may ignore
this in order not to be irritated.
By the way, "patience" is another important thing,
together with "kindness", we should keep in mind when
we teach students and our own children as Jim Lemon
pointed out well in the context of the Socratic
method. You may know that being kind does not mean

histogramme
Hello,
I can plot histogrammes but I want to know how can I do to plot 2 histogrammes at the same time (in the same window).
hist(as.numeric(as.character(B[,1])),col="lightblue", border="pink")
hist(as.numeric(as.character(A[,1])),col="yellow", border="pink")
thanks.

Using sunflowerplot to add points in a xyplot panel
Hi,
I use panel.points to add points to a xyplot graphic. But I like to use the
sunflowerplot to plot my points because this is very superimposed. It is
possible to use this? I try but it dont work directly. It may be need to put
this function inside a panel.???
Thanks

formula version of sunflowerplot() fails when axis label specified
Hello, R-help,
does anybody have already a work-around for the problem that the formula
version of sunflowerplot() throws an error when provided with a value for
xlab (or ylab) different from NULL:
> sunflowerplot( Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width, data = iris, xlab = "A")
Error in model.frame.default(formula = Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width, data = iris, :

Subset and point plot
OK, I need help plotting. I have column headings of Day, Wgt, Foodin, Rep,
Grp and Tanks. Rep=c(1,2,3) and Tanks=c(a1,a2,a3,a4,a5,a6,
c1,c2,c3,c4,c5,c6, h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6).
I created a subset where I only would like Rep=2, and Tanks=c(a4,c4,h4) and
would like to graph (points) of Wgt and Day. I would think that I only need
3 colors, but when I run with only 3, only 2 lines show up. When I add

sunflower plot, making vectors?
I'm having a bit of trouble finding and understanding the correct function to
make numeric vectors to feed the sunflowerplot function. I have 33k points
to show and I want to do better than the standard scatter plot.
I gather that I need two vectors (x and y) of the same count containing the
"center" value of each bin.
FYI - I have two pieces of data:
1 - x axis - time in days of

looking for radrails devs
I just got an email update on a radrails bug that I submitted a while back...
Unfortunately, it''s just stupid spammers.
So, I tried to go to the radrails trac to delete the spam or at least report it, and their
trac is puking python errors (including environment information) all over the page! I
can''t seem to get to any pages with any contact info, so I''m trying

Grid graphics issues
Hi all --
So I'm trying to use lattice graphics, but I want to use a
sunflower plot, which doesn't seem to be part of lattice. No problem,
I put together the following code, which mostly works -- *except* for
the first graph it generates. If it opens the graphic device, then it
draws the xygrid, clears the device, then draws the sunflowerplot.
All subsequent output operations work

Scatterplot Showing All Points
Hello all,
I'm trying to graph a scatterplot of a large (5,000 x,y coordinates) of data
with the caveat that many of the data points overlap with each other (share the
same x AND y coordinates). In using the usual "plot" command,
> plot(education, xlab="etc", ylab="etc")
it seems that the overlap of points is not shown in the graph. Namely, there

bubble.plot() - standardize size of unit circle
Hello,
I wrote a wrapper for symbols() that produces a
bivariate bubble plot, for use when plot(x,y) hides
multiple occurrences of the same x,y combination (e.g.
if x,y are integers).
Circle area ~ counts per bin, and circle size is
controlled by 'scale'.
Question: how can I automatically make the smallest
circle the same size as a standard plot character,
rather than having to

Hi,
I create a plot using sunflowerplot, I need to highlight one point to show
its importance. What suggestion you have to accomplish this?
Thanks,

Sunflower plot error; how to deal with NA
I suspect the problem stems from the fact that there are a couple of NA
values.
> sunflowerplot(lastoto,maxear)
Error in rep.int(i.multi, number[number > 1]) :
invalid number of copies in rep.int()
So I used the subset command to get rid of the cases with NA
hell<-subset(ChinOtoMayB,is.na(lastoto)==FALSE)
Then it worked perfectly
sunflowerplot(hell$lastoto,hell$maxear)

about changing line type and line width in Taylor Diagram
Dear all,
I am new to plotting Taylor Diagram using plotrix package within R, hence
this post. I have written a script which plots Taylor Diagram with one
reference and 7 model values. However the font size, line width and line
type are not clear when saving the diagram as a jpeg file. I tried the
functions lty, lwd and font but no apparent change. I am attaching the
script here. Any help would

In general, the way to answer such a question for yourself is to read
the documentation for arguments related to observation plot attributes,
then, if necessary, read the source

How to change color the default in levelplot() ?
Dear R communities
May I seek your advices on how to change color the default in levelplot(), e.g. from the default of pink and light blue, to e.g. red and green ?
The levelplot function has 1 of the arguments being panel (which is actually panel.levelplot), but I am not sure where the commands to alter the color.
For example, I type:
p1<-levelplot(my.mat,colorkey=FALSE),
how could I

stacked bar plot
Hello,
I'm wondering if someone may be able to help me, and do apologize if there is a simple and obvious solution for this. I am somewhat new to R, and have been searching for a simple solution for a couple of days.
I am interested in finding a tool that allows me to plot a stacked bar plot.
My data set is in the following format:

boxplot and xlim confusion?
I have some code as shown below. Basically, I would like three
boxplots to be set next to each other with no ylabels on the two
"inner" plots, and I want the same x axis range on all three. However,
it seems like boxplot does not respect the xlim setting. I've tried
the various ways I thought would work (par, boxplot(...xlim=)) but
none of them seem to work. I then tried plot.window,

lattice centre a diverging colour scale
Dear list,
I'm using lattice::levelplot to plot a coloured image of 3D data. The
range of the z values goes from negative to positive, but is not
exactly centred around 0. I would however like to map a diverging
colour scale with white falling exactly at 0, and both extremes being
symmetrical in the legend to better contrast the opposite change in
colour saturation. The following dummy

How to draw a border for multiple graphs in one page
Hi,
I am struggling to create a 2 by 2 multiple graphs in one page. I used par(mfrow=c(2,2)) to divide the screen into 4. In each screen I draw a pie chart (They are all same).
For example, my data is like this

latex, eps graphics and transparent colors
I have a diagram to be included in latex, where all my figures are .eps
graphics (so pdflatex is not an
option) and I want to achieve something
like the following: three concentric filled circles varying in lightness
or saturation. It is easiest to do this using
transparency, but in my test using the postscript driver, the
transparent color fills do not appear. Is it
correct that postscript()
