Hi guys,
I've installed COD MW2 and followed the instructions as per the AppDB page:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=18348&iTestingId=48575
However, I get garbled text...and when in-game, the lighting is a mess. I'd try editing the graphic settings, but I can't make out the text of the menu.
I'm using Wine 1.2 rc6 with or without the

My hardware is Intel Core i7 4GB ram, Nvidea GeForce 310m graphics card. I installed my graphics drivers in Ubuntu 11.04 using the recommended techniques. My video drivers are noted as experimental however all features and 3D support is working in Ubuntu 11.04 gnome environment. I did not use the .run file downloadable from the Nvidea website. I have read the sticky about no sound. I have no sound

Hi,
I'm new to Wine and I'm having some problems running Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1.
The game installs fine, runs fine, speed fine, except that when in gameplay, I see about 20% fine (left of the screen) and 80% messed.
I'm running version 1.7, which seems to be Platinum. Linux 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64, wine-1.3.9.
I found somewhere it might be some problems with

Steam always locks up within a few dozen seconds of starting.
I have a brand new computer with a fresh install of Gentoo linux and wine.
I have been able to install and run Steam, but Steam itself always
seems to freeze some short time after starting it. Usually this takes
place at the "Connecting account. . ." dialogue, but every now and
then I can actually get a game of HL2 loading. I have never got as far
as the HL2 menu being active.
It does

Struggling to install Call of Duty 4
I have just installed Call of Duty 4 in Wine on Ubuntu 7.10 and that went fine but during installation of DirectX it said, "An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem." And that the installation had failed.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me?
I'm trying to run Secret of Monkey Island special edition in Steam on wine with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I can install steam and use it to install the game (after it installs directx), apparently with no problems, but when I try to run the game, a window opens saying "Preparing to launch The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition". Steam with Wine
I have read over and over about people having the same issues with Steam in wine - none of them had the new rc 1.0, but I'm still experiencing the same problems - the frame rate issues, as well as the weird green textures in the start-up screen. Anyway... everyone says its DirectX 9.0's fault, and to run it under 8.0. The problem is... I only have a shortcut for Steam, and the system, for

Re: Using wisotool with Steam
Go ahead and try it. We've added Steam support to wisotool,
and I could imagine the wisotool verb for a game could edit
the .vdf file when replaying the cached install,
but it's not something I'll have time to play with myself.
Current wine should execute the directx runtime installer a lot
faster, which ought to help.

Same with me. But I have an older nvidia card.
NVidia GeForce Go 7200

Tested versions:
wine 1.1.0 + 3D mark patch without dll overides
wine 1.1.1 + 3D mark patch with and without dll overrides
Compiled with gcc 3.3.6
It first shows a dialog:
It appears that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare did not quit properly the last time it ran. Do you want to run the game in the safe mode?

Launching Source engine games results in crash, small res
Well I'm able to get Steam running fine, however I've tried to play the following:
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead
Counter-strike Source
Portal
When I try to launch Source based games the screen goes black and then it resizes the resolution to something like 1024x600.
I am able to get the Left 4 Dead intro movie to play with this script:
