WHY IS WINE SO BROKEN!!?
Honestly I don't understand it. First Oneiric Ocelot splits Ubuntu users right down the middle, next thing I know WINE is very unstable after the 1.3.30 update. Here's my problem. I run WINE in Ubuntu Natty Narwhal (11.04). All my apps were running quite happily on version 1.3.28/29 this includes apps: Photoshop CS5 extended Live For Speed Cheat Engine and various other little mods

Can I install Wine 1.4 on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric?
Can I get it from repository? When I'm adding ppa with updating, apt-get still cannot find last version (only 1.3.28 is avail. to load). When print 'sudo apt-get install wine1.4' it gives an error (something as: no such file)

Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
This is a post I just added to my Ubuntu R Blog (http://www.personal.psu.edu/mar36/blogs/the_ubuntu_r_blog/2013/03/moving-to-r-300-on-ubuntu.html). As you may (or may not) be aware of, R 3.0.0 is [scheduled to be released](http://www.r-project.org/) on April 3rd. Since this is a major release and there may be some growing pains (but I hope not) in the move 3.0.0, here is some information

Is it me or is it Oneiric
I converted to Oneiric Ocelot pre-alpha several days ago. Yes, I already know that was a bad move on my part. Git compiled and ran well once or twice and then... I compiled the git yesterday and tried to run NatSpeak, and this error popped up. susan at ubuntu:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Nuance/NaturallySpeaking10/Program$ wine natspeak fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl returning zero-filled

[Wine 1.4rc1]Mouse support broken in MassEffect and Bioshock
Hi, I upgraded to wine 1.4rc1 from the official wine PPA for ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (11.10), I am running Ubuntu 12.04 alpha, and mouse support seems broken for Mass Effect (the first one) and Bioshock (the first one too). I have made some tests with a clean wine prefix. The works smoothly in the game menus, but after a level is loaded, it seems the mouse x an y axis are not recognized anymore :

Compiling wine in Ubuntu Oneiric
Hello, I'm having trouble compiling wine 1.3.31 under the latest Ubuntu, 64 bit multiarch, etc. What basically happens is that the compile and make steps go just fine, but any sound that the newly built wine makes, doesn't use PulseAudio, it takes over the sound device. The only thing I've got to go on is a warning when doing ./configure that tells me that I'm missing the 32 bit

Error when upgrading from wine 1.2.x to 1.3.x
Using the Ubuntu Wine Team ppa's I did a simple apt-get install wine1.3. As expected, 1.2 was removed and everything was upgraded except I seem to have some problem with the ia32-libs package in the iwne repository. Here is what I get when I try to upgrade: Code: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done

Creating a Guest from an ISO
Hi, I''m new to Xen, and I just installed Xen 4.1 on 64-bit Ubuntu Server 11.10. I''ve confirmed I''m booting into the Xen kernel. Now I''m trying to create guests for 64-bit and 32-bit Ubuntu Desktop 11.10. I''ve downloaded the ISOs, and while I''ve been reading through the docs, several things are unclear to me. First, there seems to be two

the value of the last expression
Is there an analogue of common lisp "*" variable which contains the value of the last expression? E.g., in lisp: > (+ 1 2) 3 > * 3 I wish I could recover the value of the last expression without re-evaluating it. thanks -- Sam Steingold (http://sds.podval.org/) on Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) X 11.0.11004000 http://www.childpsy.net/ http://camera.org http://ffii.org

Wine 1.3 packaged for Ubuntu, must be installed explicitly
I have added a new series of Wine 1.3 packages to the Wine PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa These are for 10.04 (Lucid) only and must be explicitly installed: sudo apt-get install wine1.3 Users who simply install the wine or wine1.2 packages (as in, all existing users) will instead get the stable Wine 1.2 release, which is still packaged there. Thanks, Scott Ritchie

Ubuntu PPA changes
I've created a new PPA in which to maintain the backported versions of the latest Debian packages to Ubuntu releases: https://launchpad.net/~xapian/+archive/ubuntu/backports The reason for this change is that the existing PPA is stuck using a GPG key created when the PPA was first created a decade ago. This is a 1024 bit RSA key using SHA1 as the hash, and that's not really secure by

on Ubuntu Developer Summit (Oneiric), NUT and 2.8.0
Fellows, I've been caught by real life, and didn't find time to share / discuss this with you. I've been attending UDS Oneiric, from May 9 to 13 in Budapest, and had a chance to present and complete some ideas around NUT: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerOneiricInfraPower The end target is to have NUT ready to address infrastructures, both static like data-centers and flexible like
