Trying to get audio into Steam
I understand this is probably more distro related, but I would hope that perhaps people around here might have a better clue as to how to resolve my issue. I just recently got Arch Linux x84_64 on my rig about a week ago and decided to go with the 64-bit Wine. After many works and tricks, I got a few of my games running, such as WoW and osu!. However, I have one last game that is bound to steam

For vineyard compatibility, don't explode if a wineprefix has spaces in the subdir name. New option --force for when you want to override the dependency check Experimental support for Steam games, see new verbs alienswarm_steam,

SegFault trying to open Steam
This is very possibly an easy fix, as I've had steam running on this particular box before through wine. However, I've been googling my ass off and looking through the suggested fixes on the appdb to no avail. Let's start with my setup: OS: Slackware 13.37 (64 bit with working multilib) completely up to date Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT running the most recent linux 64 bit

Steam installs and runs fine on POL, but not Wine ?
Hey guys, Can anyone help me close the gap between my POL and Wine setups? I currently have a laptop running PlayOnLinux 3.8.8 and a desktop running only Wine 1.3.9 (Fedora 14). As the subject read, the laptop with POL is running fine, but a generic install with the latest .msi file from the Steam website is not. Steam on Wine, was able to run it's own autoupdate, but after that refuses

No sound using OSS in Steam games
Whenever I change the sound driver from ALSA to OSS in winecfg all of my steam games are muted. Some of the games doesn't even start, some of them start but are totally silent with OSS. I installed a couple of non-steam games into the same wineprefix, interestingly they can use both sound systems. So this issue is applied only to steam games. If I apply the WINEDEBUG=+dsound parameter when

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

Steam/DOD/CS Issue
I recently installed Wine 1.1.10 on Arch Linux and got Steam up and running. I then installed CounterStrike and Day of Defeat and played them without any issues. I went to play them today and they kept crashing. Here is the output from terminal. Code: env WINEPREFIX="/home/user/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 300 -opengl

2 mouse cursors visible using a steam app
All, I am finally stumped enough by something to post in the forum! Basically whilst running a game through steam (either from steam itself or running the exe directly) I get 2 cursors. Now one of them is the one I would expect and works properly, however the second one is kinda anchored to the middle of the screen and looks like the gnome cursor. If you move your mouse, the middle cursor tries

odd steam install location?
I am trying to track down a crash in Steam (Steam itself, not a game through it). In following appdb instructions for Steam I realized that it was installed in /home/tparker/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steam.exe and not in :~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files> where I had expected it, although that second directory does have a SteamInstall.msi sitting in it but

Steam and computer run very slowly
HI all, I have Wine 1.3.26 installed on my Linux Mint 11 system, and have installed Steam. Steam runs, but it runs incredibly slowly, and causes the rest of the computer to also run very slowly. The odd thing is that the games I have (Portal and Half-Life 2) seem to run fine once they get going. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or pointers about what's going on and if there is anything

Issue with Steam after Steam update
I have been using Steam on suse for quite sometime without any issues, I updated to 12.1 and everything was still fine for months. After a Steam update a few weeks back Steam refused to load and instead pops up an error "Fatal Error: Could not load module 'bin/FileSystem_Steam.dll" and produced the following in console: http://paste.kde.org/435782/ I have tried 32bit prefix and

wine-1.3.27 - breaks civ5 - ArchLinux (64bit)
Hi wine-1.3.26 played civ5 fine - I could install and play the steam version out the box (i.e I needed not to install any other components) When I install 1.3.27 I am not able to load civ5 from steam, wine crashes and I have to manually kill the process. Downgrading to wine 1.3.26 I can play again fine. Athlon64-X2 Nvidia geforce 450 GTS Arch linux 64 (using the 32bit wine version) If it

Problems with games on very slow computer
Hello, I've installed Arch on my old laptop (it's slower than my phone, only 700mhz, 256mb of ram and S3 Savage IX 8MB graphics) and tried to launch something via wine. Winetricks works good and I've installed dotnet20, corefonts and fontfix. I tried to launch these games and that's what i got: Touhou 9: Code: wine /mnt/pen/Phantasmagoria\ of\ Flower\ View/th09e.exe

Installing steam to my wine prefix?
The only way I know to install steam is via winetricks, the steaminstall.msi doesn't seem to work, at least not out of the box. I'm trying to install steam, and succeeded, but it installed it to ~/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam, whereas I normally install stuff to ~/.wine. How do I make winetricks install to there? I tried "winetricks steam prefix=/Users/Cole/.wine" but that

Steam will not load after update
I had Steam/TF2 working. Using Suse 11.1 64-bit, Nvidia card/driver, 4Gb RAM, 2.6 Intel Quad CPU. ALSA sound (pulse audio uninstalled), Windows Vista, full settings in winecfg. My TF2 crashed and when I started Steam again, the Steam update downloaded and installed. Then Steam wouldn't start any more. I tried a new .wine dir. Followed instructions for removing/reinstalling Steam. Nada.

Problem running any games with Steam
When ever I try to run FEAR 2 or Half-Life in Steam the "Preparing to launch" window comes up and then disappears. I assume every game I have will do this same thing, but it takes way to long to install anything in Steam. Both games produce the following output in the terminal: Code: err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered
