plot image matrix with row/col labels
I'm working with an historical image that may be (one of?) the first
uses of gray-scale shading to show the pattern of values in a
matrix/table, later used by Bertin in his 'reorderable matrix'
and sometimes called a scalogram.
The image is at

NHW Project - some results
Hello,
Just a quick message to let you know that I get back to NHW Project
currently.
I downloaded 20 images from the Internet with rather good quality (mainly
faces), I compressed them at high compression -l7 setting with the NHW
Project, and on 19 images out of 20, I visually prefer the results of NHW
compared to x265 (HEVC)!!! -I can make available these 20x3=60 512x512

once again: [Too many errors (client not receiving data fast enough)]
Ok, I have seen that this is a common issue, and has been answered many times.... but I think mine is a bit different. Sorry if I
am just being thick.

Add printer wizard (XP)
Hello list
I have been really wowed by samba 3 so far, i just have one last mission
to complete... please help!
I have samba 3.0.2a-SuSE installed on a SuSE 9.0 box. It uses winbind to
authenticate against a win server 2003 box - this seems to work fine,
users can own files and this is shown when getfacl is run on the shares
(owned by DOMAIN\User).
The last problem i have is adding printers...

Bar plots with stacked columns marked with askterisks
Hi,
I'm trying to plot bar graphs with stacked columns marked with
askterisks for certain columns, which follow certain criteria.
I've gotten the stacked bar plots with Data set A (please refer to
code below). However, I haven't figured how to put asterisks on
columns based on some extra information (such as "used/unused") as in
Data set B i.e. asterisks at the

How do I get CRAM-MD5 to work?
I know how to ENABLE CRAM-MD5, but getting it to actually work?
<http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/CRAM-MD5>
It looks like I have to 1) manually create a CRAM-MD5 data file and, I suppose, 2) manually manage the file? Given I do not know user's passwords, this might be tricky.
Currently I have users authenticate against MySQL (virtual users) or pam (local users).
Or do i just ignore it

Saving heatmaps as PDFs
Hi,
I'm trying to save heatmaps as PDFs. However, the PDF version of the
heatmaps (Heatmap_CAFvsTNF_run2.pdf) is blurred when compared to its
counterpart, which was saved manually by using the software
"Grab" (Heatmap_CAFvsTNF_run2.tiff).

rsync version 2.6.3 protocol version 28 - hosts allow dows not work
Hello all. Rsync rocks, however I am having problems with two things:
1. The hosts allow directive does not allow the use of a hostname. (DNS is
working for I can do a NSLOOKUP on the hostname and it resolves). If I put
the IP address it works fine, problem is that we run DHCP at the office
and my lease expires every 4 days.
2. Rsync is not logging to /var/log/rsyncd.log.
The following is my

addtable2plot(plotrix)
Dear List
adding a table to a plot using addtable2plot(plotrix) does not seem to
work when using a logarithmic axis. The table is then reduced to one
line. Is there an argument to indicate that a log-scale is used, or an
alternative to add a bunch of information to a plot?
I'm using R 2.6.1 on WinXP SP2.
thanks

PHP 5.3: IUS vs CentOS repos
I need to upgrade PHP because the latest WordPress requires one at least at
5.2.4. What are the tradeoffs of using the php53 packages provided by
CentOS versus IUS? I've seen that installing the RHEL-derived php53
requires removing php first and it creates package conflicts because it
doesn't provide a virtual php-common package. That suggests I should
install the IUS package. Is
