Switching to 16 bit colour ...
"bit of trouble" - good pun! But I do hope it gets solved. Can you make a bash file (oh no - a pun of my own!) to automate any of those annoyances? Would putting the game "in its own WINE" help at all? Planescape Torment,
Has anyone managed to get Planescape Torment in Wine yet? I've tried it in wine 1.1.36, 37, 38, 39 and 40. None work. My system just freezes and I can't manage to alt-tab to my terminal either. The forums (and the appdb) seem to indicate that this game is pretty tough to get up and running. I've tried both the fullscreen=0 (windowed) options and fullscreen=1 options. Also tried with

Radeon 4800 or Ati in general viable for wine?
Longtime lurker and user of wine, but I'm about to replace my old nvidia card with a newer model and seeing as Ati is open sourcing their drivers. I was wondering if I should get a 4800 card, but only if the fglrx or x86-radeon driver is up to the task :) Like can it run direct3d 9 games like Eve? How about 2d performance in games like fallout 2 and planescape torment?

Problems with Planescape: Torment
Hello, I've been having some problems with Planescape and I can't seem to be able to solve them (I'm neither a Linux nor a Wine wiz, if you know what I mean). Before I state my problem, I have to say I have used 3 Wine releases, the 03/2005 one, that couldn't even start Planescape (I got it as a binary .deb file), the 05/2005 one (Compiled from source), and the current one

System directory L"%SystemRoot%\\system" is not accessible
Hey, all, Running Wine 20050111 under SuSE 9.2 (SuSE 9.2 package from sourceforge.net). Wine was working fine until about an hour ago; I had several programs installed and working and did not have this error (afaik). Then I decided to install Septerra Core ( http://www.lith.com/sites/septerra/ , don't download the demo, though; it is of no use in debugging, because the demo install does

AppDB permissions problem
I'm maintaining the GTA3 and Planescape: Torment entries in the AppDB. I just tried to edit the howtos I added a while back but I'm being told I don't have 'sufficient permissions' to do that. I am logged in by the way. Grahame

Wine sometime really surprise me
Software as Application, can always find a replacement. (Well most of the time) But Software as Games, there is good chance that you will never find a replacement. They are their own unique Art. (Classical games is another story, such as chess, and those "public domain") In order words, doesn't matter how old a game might be. it will not get obsolesce. When it come to

Colour depth detection fails in wine (16 bit)
Hi All, I'm trying to run a school CAD app called Prodesktop in wine 0.9.46 and have a problem with the detection of colour depth. X is set to run at 1024x768 which is fine as far as the app goes and the colour depth is set to 24 bit. When the app runs, it complains that it requires 16 bit colour, or greater and then shuts down. Is this a problem anyone else has run into possibly with a

Is there a difference ...?
Doh123, how is running a program off an NTFS partition asking for trouble? Ntfsprogs seems to handle it just fine. I know that NTFS doesn't let you mark a file as executable, and that the filesystem is susceptible to fragmentation, but you should just be able to tell it to run rather than display and be good. It shouldn't cause destruction. I think there might even be an NTFS defrag tool

Problems with newest Wine versions (.16, .17)
Hello, To get straight into the subject at hand, it seems that the two latest wine versions (.16, .17) have broken some of my applications (Planescape and Carmageddon, in particular). These applications used to work perfectly in .15, so I'm led to think that the problems are due to the extensive changes done in the Direct3D area. The output seems to confirm these thoughts. Now, I'm not

Colour depth reduced to 12 by bitmap devices
I am using R to create colour plots as bitmap files. I have created a palette of 256 colours that I want to use, but the resultant output files contain only 12 colours used in dither patterns. The result is the same whether I use bmp() or png(). How can I get the true colours that I specified instead of dither patterns? (making the driver's job easier!) I am using R 1.1.0 for Windows

ATI (rv350) + open-source driver + wine gaming issues
Hello everyone. I seem to have a bit of a problem running some 3D accelerated games under wine, while using the open-source ATI Radeon driver. My graphics card is Radeon 9700, and the open-source drivers overall work much better than the proprietary fglrx. The fglrx driver allows me (in most cases) to run games like Temple of Elemental Evil (particularily) or Morrowind normally, but I can't

[Bug 11067] New: add --min-depth and --max-depth options
Maybe a bit off topic. (I don't deal with any data even remotely that large.) How would you use these new options - just as a way to break large tasks into smaller "batches"? If rsync "stops in the middle", then the target would be in a sort of limbo where it might not be fully usable. Joe On 01/22/2015 09:38 AM, samba-bugs at samba.org wrote: >

Subsetting depth profiles based on maximum depth
Hello, I am having a little trouble finding the right set of criteria to subset a portion of data. I am using an instrument that does depth profiles of a water column. The instrument records on the way down as well as the way up. ## So I am left with data like this: dat <- data.frame(var = runif(11, 0, 10)) dat$depth <- c(1:5,5,5:1) # So for the example dat ## I am trying tp figure out

Black (transparent?) Screen - wine 1.3.34
Hi, I'm having some issues with multiple games running under Wine, namely the GoG versions of Age of Wonder and Baldur's Gate. Both of these are listed on WineHQ as compatible, but I'm not having the same luck. If Compiz is running when I start the game, I get a black screen, but the game itself is obviously working, as the game music is playing and I can hear menu buttons pressed
