similar to: CD drive in wine

I have been trying to add a launcher to the gnome menu for some of my wine games, but I have found that when I add them to the menu the games complain about missing files, I assume because it is looking for the rest of the game files in the directory that the launcher is in. This doesn't happen when I run the same command within the games directory they work fine. I used to have this problem

I'm on a dell inspiron 6000 laptop with Ubuntu 7.10 and WINE .9.46 installed. I installed the Might and Magic Millennium Edition (Might and Magic 4-7), and am having problems playing the games. I prefer to run games that require CDs from image files, since it is faster and protects the life of my CDs. In windows, I would just mount the disc image and I could then play. But using Wine and Ubuntu, it appears to work differently. When installing a Windows CD using WINE under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, how should I go about mounting a disc image so it is seen by games running under WINE as a CD?

Ok, i'm terrible with computers, so i would like an explanation in simple terms. So I'm trying to play a game using Wine, I've installed the game, but when i click play, a box pops up that says "No CD-ROM drive found" I would like to know how to fix this problem.

Is there any chance to running new games under Wine (because I've seen some new videogames running in Youtube) and, what things can be made to try to get those games working. I don't know much about wine so I don't know how it works but, Colud we make some kind of guide about problems, solutions and wine moddings to encorauge users to get working new games?

I was able to compile and run Wine successfully this morning. I can now run WELCOME.EXE, CALC.EXE & NOTEPAD.EXE where I am currently putting windows (non-catalization intentional) programs in /c/windows. I do have a coule of questions however. I get an error saying basically an exported function needed from MSVCRT.DLL is not found, try using the native one instead when running NOTEPAD.EXE

Why is it that people complain when no-cd fixes are used when a programs is rated platinum, yet when you need to set and use native dll's it's okay? I was wondering if people have ideas as to what the best place is to find out what I need to run games using Wine (not terribly specific, I play a lot of old and new games and just want some kind of link that is helpful). While when i run native Linux apps they use both cores. Also the games and programs that i am running under wine use both cores when run under windows.
