rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Since you are in an environment with millions of files I highly
recommend that you move to ZFS storage and use ZFS's subvolume
snapshots instead of --link-dest. It is much more space efficient,
rsync run time efficient, and the old backups can be deleted in
seconds. Rsync doesn't have to understand anything about ZFS. You

A plethora of problems related to crashes and drawing in AOM
A plethora of problems related to crashes and drawing in the game Age of Mythology Gold. A few of these problems didn't exist in earlier versions of wine. I haven't filed any of these as bug reports but wanted to put what I did find here so I wouldn't lose it.
You need mfc42.dll in your System32 directory and you need AOM Gold NoCD patch 1.03 English (aomx.exe) to be able to play this

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
Not to mention the fact that ZFS requires considerable hardware resources
(CPU & memory) to perform well. It also requires you to learn a whole new
terminology to wrap your head around it.
It's certainly not a trivial swap to say the least...
Thanks,

Wine Games Don't Render Correctly Anymore. Very Odd.
So I had Portal (via Stream) on my laptop and it ran perfectly, but at some point, probably when I upgraded to Maverick, something changed. I tried running it again and I got the following.

Patch for rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date (fwd)
Folks,
We faced a similar situation to that which Ken described - we recycle
backup directories, for good reason.
There is a patch to solve the problem.
Our systems administrator provided the following description of the
patches we use:

STALKER Clear Sky bugs: red grass, stretched textures, etc.
Wine 1.1.40, Nvidia 7900GS
I'm running the game with a static lighting, had to do winetricks d3dx9, since it didn't start without native libraries (xrEngine.exe crashed with an irresponsible bug report window and "wine: Call from 0x7edd1137 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXDeclaratorFromFVF, aborting" message in the wine log). Not sure if it is a correct solution.

Batch Import
I would like to batch import a series of files. Every imported file
will get the same prefix followed by a digit corresponding to it's
identity (prefix.1, prefix.2, prefix.3, etc).
the general structure I assume would be something like:
for (i in 1:i) {
prefix.i <- function("data", i)
}
At present I have not found any pointers/methods on how to accomplish
this. The

There is ample 622 ATM bandwidth between the two servers for samba

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
Feature request: allow --link-dest dir to be linked to even if file exists
in target.
This statement from the man page is adhered to too strongly IMHO:
"This option works best when copying into an empty destination hierarchy, as
rsync treats existing files as definitive (so it never looks in the link-dest
dirs when a destination file already exists)".
I was suprised by this behaviour

I managed to get most of the prerequisites built, and my final configure warning only contains the following:

rsync --link-dest won't link even if existing file is out of date
This has been a consideration. But it pains me that a tiny change/addition
to the rsync option set would save much time and space for other legit use
cases.
We know rsync very well, we dont know ZFS very well (licensing kept the
tech out of our linux-centric operations). We've been using it but we're
not experts yet.
Thanks for the suggestion.

my fonts look horrible (centos5.3/xfce)
Hi all,
I can't seem to get my fonts to look decent under CentOS. I was able to
make them look pretty good under Ubuntu, but for the life of me I can't
make them look decent on CentOS.
