Steam installs and runs fine on POL, but not Wine ?
Hey guys, Can anyone help me close the gap between my POL and Wine setups? I currently have a laptop running PlayOnLinux 3.8.8 and a desktop running only Wine 1.3.9 (Fedora 14). As the subject read, the laptop with POL is running fine, but a generic install with the latest .msi file from the Steam website is not. Steam on Wine, was able to run it's own autoupdate, but after that refuses

Counter Strike Source Won't load.
Okay so I have just installed Fedora 16 64-bit. Coming from a Ubuntu user I'm well aware that counter strike source works great under linux. I've been trying to get it to work but every time I try to load it, it loads for a moment and then crashes. I have the proprietary AMD ATI drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 5750. They seem to be rendering fine according to the debugger. I'm currently

After that I added xlive.dll from xliveless to the game directory . I downloaded and installed razor 1911 crack. Steam won't start
I just tried to install Steam through Wine and PlayOnLinux. It installed successfully, but hung on the client update. I try to start Steam.exe with the command 'wine steam.exe' as well as the PlayOnLinux launcher. The window pops up for a moment, saying 'Connecting account', which then goes away and the program pops up an error message after about the money. Any ideas? Would the

Desktop Notifications/popups = steam apps hard freeze?
I'm not sure if this is a problem resulting from my PlayOnLinux app for handling the wine based applications. However whenever I get a popup or notification from my Ubuntu desktop it causes the Steam application to hard freeze, graphically only though. Seeing as I then have to hit '`' and then quit (I have only valve based games) I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this

Wine prefixes without using Playonlinux
Since I installed Wine on my computer, I have mostly been using the Playonlinux application to manage the installation and maintenance of the games I have tested. The cool thing about it is that I can create wineprefixes for each application I wish to test, and therefore not having the tweaks of one program interfering with another. It's working great with applications which run almost

Is there a difference ...?
Doh123, how is running a program off an NTFS partition asking for trouble? Ntfsprogs seems to handle it just fine. I know that NTFS doesn't let you mark a file as executable, and that the filesystem is susceptible to fragmentation, but you should just be able to tell it to run rather than display and be good. It shouldn't cause destruction. I think there might even be an NTFS defrag tool

Connection problems with Steam games
Hello, I've been having problems trying to run Steam games. The Steam itself takes up a lot of resources even when idle, for some reason, but the games run rather smoothly - in menu that is. Most of the games I have on steam are multiplayer games, and as the topic title suggests, I can't ever get to play them due to problems on connection. When playing Men of War, the game freezes on

Steam problems
For the last couple of days, I have been trying to get Steam working, mainly to play Counter-Strike 1.6 (and other games, with time). I first tried PlayOnLinux, and that didn't go so well, and neither did Wine-Doors. Finally, I reverted to using wine without any add-ons and that has seemed to work best. I am using wine version 1.1.18 on an acer aspire laptop running gentoo 2.6.27-r8 and ati

Evernote Cannot Connect To Internet
Hi I'm trying to run Evernote under Wine and it installs correctly, but after that it asks for login and password. I put them, press login and it says "Can't connect to server. Please try later". The most sad thing was I could run Evernote successfully on Wine under previous versions of Ubuntu, but it doesn't work on the latest 12.04. Versions of software I tried: Evernote:

Switching to 16 bit colour ...
"bit of trouble" - good pun! But I do hope it gets solved. Can you make a bash file (oh no - a pun of my own!) to automate any of those annoyances? Would putting the game "in its own WINE" help at all?
