Removing pulseaudio affects startup / shutdown in Intrepid
I use Intrepid Studio, and have all updates as of today (29-Oct).
As of a few days ago, my distro does not shut down or start cleanly. It is because I have removed pulseaudio.
The same thing happens on shutdown when I have pulseaudio stopped with pactl exit.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what is the workaround when using wine?
pasuspender wine application.exe ??
Thanks.

Audio weirdness on CentOS 6.2 with flash?
Hi List,
I have an ASUS G73S laptop with our favorite OS installed and all
up-to-date.
Sound has always "just worked"
When I use the Preferences>Sound app I can setup the hardware, input,
output and was overall very impressed.
One can check each speaker and the laptop has a front left and right and
also has a bass speaker which seems to be connected to the left rear.

pulseaudio/wine question
When people have audio trouble with programs in wine the first
suggestion is always to remove pulseaudio, I'm not questing that - it
often fixes the problem, but I do wonder if there are plans to make wine
and pulseaudio work better together?
Each new version of the major Linux distros seems to make pulse harder
and harder to remove without messing up the system. Outside of wine

Wine + Steam + PulseAudio = Fail
I have a hard time trying to run any game through Steam on Wine 1.0-rc2 and PulseAudio. I already configured it according to this sites: http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2007/05/27/make-wine-and-pulseaudio-get-along/ and

No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
Wine requires direct access to sound device(s) to make sound. This is true for both ALSA and OSS driver back-ends. However most sound servers are not compatible with neither of these back-ends. This also true about pulse-audio - it is not fully compatible with Wine.
If you using new distro (Fedora 8, Ubuntu 8.04, SuSE 11) and do not have sound you should:

Thanks

Re: No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
as i do like the pulseaudio server, i do not want to remove it completely.
instead, each time i want to run a program thru wine i kill the pulseaudio.
can be done by a hotkey or shortcut.
' killall pulseaudio
done. Sound works.
and when u want pulseaudio to run again, use this
' pulseaudio
even simpler.
So if you make shortcuts or hotkeys, this is a piece of cake.

using Icecast source client as PulseAudio source
There are many Icecast source clients[1] available now.
The Coolmic[2] app is particularly interesting because it can turn a
Android phone (e.g. SmartLav+ lapel mic[3]) into a wearable mic for
presenters.
Not everybody is keen to run Icecast though, some people may want to
mix-and-match the Icecast source clients like that with some other
broadcasting platform, Jitsi Meet[4], Zoom or whatever.

Wine 1.3.25 kills sound with PulseAudio
In version 1.3.24 and previous versions, sound was hit-and-miss on my system unless I had ESD enabled. Now that ESD has been removed, so has any reliable sound.
When using the ALSA driver, some sounds work for a while, after which all sound completely stops. Enabling ESD and using the PulseAudio eSound plugin made all sounds work perfectly. That is now gone with version 1.3.25, and sound is now

Re: Is it a wine bug if sound in a particular app doesn't work p
This is one of those nasty answers.
If you are running pulseaudio switching to emulation for directsound then it works. This is most likely not a bug in wine. But a bug in pulseaudio provided version of alsa interface.
If you not running pulseaudio so just alsa direct problem can be wine. But due to varation in quality of alsa drivers it might be an alsa driver bug.

pulseaudio wine
Hi. I can confirm that pulse does indeed work quite well with wine. I've been using oss emulation and padsp together for a long time now, and I've had very few if any problems with it.
I simply use
Code:
aoss padsp wine
whatever and it's fine. I don't know if I need to use padsp after aoss after reading this thread, but it's what I've been doing. So pulse does mostly

[SUGGESTION] WINE, autodisable/ask to disable PulseAudio
Since PulseAudio causes much trouble alot, why not make WINE to either
1) autodisable
2) ask to disablePulseAudio when running something ?
By my understanding if this would be implemented, either of the following is done:
1) When executing wine theprogramname.exe it first calls to WINE, which then query the system for PA. Then if PA is found, WINE adds padsp to the commandline and continues

Strange sound problems on Hardy
I am having a strange sound issue that affects all apps on Wine. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and have a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit. Wine version 1.0rc3 is configured to use the ALSA driver.
DirectSound hardware acceleration has been enabled a long time before using Hardy and has never caused any problems until now. Regularly the sound of a game/application completely drops until the

lib32asound2 important? (Possible Permanent Pulseaudio fix)
Because as soon as I installed it, I was able to get all of my sounds to work properly, including Pulseaudio. It's a better fix than to just remove Pulseaudio all together, because it would mess up my multitasking for other programs that require sound.
I'm assuming this because nowadays most people use 64bit OS's, so it might be important.

Help with Pulseaudio Disabling?
I was trying to disable pulseaudio as per the instructions given here http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=1457 and I have terminal-usage-newbie type question.
I've uncommented and changed the autospawn part now I need to leave the client.conf, right?
I can't just 'X' out because it keeps giving me a pop up that says I'd be terminating a ongoing process (or can I?).

Alternative to PulseAudio
I'm trying to run ableton live, but the program won't boot up unless pulseaudio driver is unchecked through winecfg. What can I do about installing maybe a usb audio driver for my audiogram 3? Can I get a different driver for wine? This is ableton live we are talking about, and I haven't gotten any sound out of it yet.
