WoW - fix pixel shader flicker
I just did a fresh install of Wine (1.3.1) and World of Warcraft. The WoW
in-game options interface has changed since the last time I needed to
messed with settings and there is no longer a box to disable
shadows/pixel shading. It is now a slider that can be moved to low but
not turned off. This was causing an odd flickering of objects (walls, trees,
etc.) where they would go back and forth

Wine, Wow Cata and D3D
Running Ubuntu 10.04, Nvidia driver version 260.19.29, 3 GB RAM, AMD Phenom Quad-Core, wine-1.3.11.
I notice no difference in performance whether OpenGL is enabled or not. Does this mean D3D is now working and I don't need OpenGL now?
I get close to 80fps in some places, which is great, but in a raid or other places with a lot of toons and activitiy, Wow practically freezes up and becomes

Problems installing WoW on Fedora 13
Hi there.
I am not a Linux noob, but equally, I wouldn't say I'm an expert either; I get by.
Recently built myself a new Fedora 13 box, running an AMD quad 955. I chose X64, which may have been my first BIG mistake, but I've stuck with that decision.
I have installed Wine, and have the 32bit version working.
I play WoW on XP, but, would like to get it running under Wine.

Wine 1.2-rc?, nVidia, and WoW 3.3.5 Problems
Forwarding to list.
One of my concerns is that we don't direct users to scan the forum entries before they post.
This is just one example of 'me too' messages in a series.
And the maddening thing is that folks like Jim below, don't have the problem.
Several 'fixes' have been posted to work around what originally appears to be brokenness in Wine, starting about 1.1.44,

WoW - WOTLK Install issues
Hi all,
I have been searching high and low for an answer to my problem however I can not seem to find it and similar bug fixes do not help. Whenever I run wineconsole/wine on the Installer.exe file for Wrath of the lich king it gets to the EULA screen (and before you say get the dll's) promptly crashes.
There error message is posted below. Any ideas on how to fix?

Wow says no DirectX
Wine 1.3.37
After patching, tried to start Wow with Wow.exe. Got a dialog box that says I need the latest DirectX Runtime. I have 'winecfg' set to XP and Blizzard says that means ver. 9.0c, which, I read somewhere, is what Wine has completed and uses by default. Please feel free to correct any misconceptions I may have.
What now?

WoW and Repair Tool
I'm using OpenSUSE 11.1, whenever I try to connect to the Blizzard Downloader or when I open the repair.exe to repair a file (thereby allowing me to get on WoW) it says "cannot connect to the servers to get the information".
Is this a problem with Wine? Or something else?

WOW patch downloads hang
Latest Wine version, Debian Lenny, fast computer. The previous pre-patch
download finally finished (300+ MB in about 4 hours. The current one (about
same size) stops at 72% (273 MB). I have "Don't throttle download" checked.
Also "peer-to-peer transfer". That sounds like some kind of bit torrent. I
don't use that. Because this process appears to be done in Wine, does

Wow, patching and installing wine
Hi!
Everything is running fine on my machine, but yesterday, I came across one
interesting question concerning World of Warcraft:
The next patch for wow from Blizzard is certainly coming. Now, I know that
there is a patch for wine to be able to install WoW correctly, but this patch
seems to be related to the WoW patch. My question is: Do I have to compile
wine again when a new wine-patch is

WOW "fixes"
I've run across the following two articles on the wow wiki. The first link
is the general page for Linux/Wine. The sound and voice chat is what I'm
most interested in about the second link. Can anyone comment on how current
and useful these tips are? It's nice to know that Blizzard knows about and
actually seems to "care" about Linux users, but I really do NOT want to
break

Unusual hard problem, WoW won't start!
Hi,
I have a kind of annoying and what it seems like unusual problem while trying to play the game World of Warcraft. I think I have done everything that people have recommended others to try out, have been googling around for some hours now.
My graphic card is: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 4770 [RV740] and I have installed the drivers for it. The funny thing is that my brother uses the exact

repeat(?) measurement ANOVA or (general? mixed?) linear model?
Hi all,
after browsing the archives for hours I'm still not sure about the proper
analysis for my dataset.
I subjected each of about 50 critters (about 10 each in 5 distinct
populations) to 4 consecutive treatments (exposure to increasing
concentrations), with one measurement per treatment and individual.
I, of course, want to know, if there was a treatment and / or a population
effect.

SOLVED: World of Warcraft d3d crash and rendring problems
Hi wine people,
with some help from the Nvidia forum I managed to solve a problem with World of Warcraft 4.x.x that I suspect is directX / Wine related:
Enabling -d3d9 and -d3d11 would cause the below mentioned problem with Wine 1.2.2, while it would crash World of Warcraft program under Wine 1.3.15 (Ubuntu 11.04 debs), while OpenGL runs perfectly (30-60 fps with all opengl settings on ultra):

Re: Unable to create D3D device
I got a similar error:
Unable to create D3D device: 1272x883
So, I opened Users/[my name]/AppData/Roaming/Need For speed World/
and then there is a config file.
I found out that 1272x883 is the resolution it wants to create the game on. When I changed that to 1280x1024, it started up perfectly.
So I suppose something is going wrong in the saving of screen resolution, on which the game fails to
