Forum FAQ & Readme First docs now up
Hi All, This relates to the CentOS forums, but as it also falls under documentation, I'm posting here too. We have recently opened up a new subforum entitled "FAQ & Readme first" and we have 2 new posts designed to help newcomers in obtaining help. Here are the links to the posts in the CentOS 5 forum (they are duplicated in the C4 and C3 forums): Readme First:

Wikipedia plots and tables?
Hello, All: What facilities exist for plots and tables of data in the standard MediaWiki software beyond the obvious standards? The standard MediaWiki tables and graphics capabilities seem to me to be rather clumsy, and I wonder if I'm missing some available extensions? The standard MediaWiki tables are described in a Wikipedia article on "Help:Table".

Fwd: [Bug 8499] AutoWikiBrowser doesn't work (uses .NET 2 framework)
Well, so much for bothering to file a bug report. (Vitaliy seems to be all about closing every .net-related report as fast as possible. He also kept closing bug 3972, regarding .NET 2, until Alexandre told him not to.) Any useful suggestions now? - d. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Wine Bugs <wine-bugs@winehq.org> Date: 25-May-2007 19:48 Subject: [Bug 8499]

Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all, First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question. Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed Ubuntu" thread for a typical example. I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my inbox. I plan to filter based on From:

[PATCH] virt-v2v: Catch invalid initrd path
In some cases (specifically, SUSE grub2 environments) it is possible to fail to update the block entries in device.map. In turn, this causes an invalid path to be returned in perl-Bootloader code, which causes the conversion to fail with the following message: is_file_opts: is_file: is_file_stub: path must start with a / character This patch prevents the problem by adding device.map (for

Theora / ogg usage
Hello, An old theme just came up on the Wikipedia mailing list again : Wikipedia strongly encourages[1] using theora encoding, strongly enough that I don't think we currently host any other video encodings...[2] however, most users know how to make and edit and play mpegs, and find theora hard to work with. http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2005-March/038244.html Perhaps the

[PATCH 4/5][REPOST][BTRFS-PROGS] Avoid to scan cdrom and floppy
Hi all, the commands "btrfs filesystem show" and "btrfs device scan" look at the /dev directory (and it subdirectories) for every block devices. This is a slow process because floppy and cdrom are also checked. Moreover, as highlighted by Helmut, if udev is not used, the /dev directory is populated by high number of non-existant devices, which slow the process. My patch

Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there, Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please? I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week, trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows domain but which will also create home directories for users the first time they log in. I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the trick

OLPC project
The One Laptop Per Child project is now including a digital camera in the design of their "$100" laptop computer. According to their latest news, this device will record video at 30 fps and at VGA resolution. Also, the OLPC project is considering using content from WikiMedia, and video files at WikiMedia are stored in ogg theora format. Have folks involved in the OLPC project

mass conversions
I'm working with Wikipedia projects, and have several thousand small sound files to convert from .ra to .ogg Vorbis. (The wikimedia commons accepts *only* Vorbis sound files, iirc, and the Wikimedia Foundation strongly supports the open standards.) The problem is, I cannot find a conversion utility for total newbs on OSX. Probably I just don't know where to look. Can someone suggest a
