Platform independent solution to watch "Streaming Service of the Council of the European Union.
"The Council of the EU has a streaming service so that we can watch its meetings ? but the service can only be accessed by Mac or MS Windows users. This is because they employ WMV format for the videos. In the FAQ they express a really strange opinion about this: 'The live streaming media service of the Council of the European Union can be viewed on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh

Hi folks, Could anyone walk me through getting Punkbuster working for a game of COD4 on Steam? I've got other games working but not COD4, I believe it's a PB issue, but on searching I've tried everything to no avail!

Ogg Vorbis in Creative products petition
Hi all dudes. We're organizing a petition to ask Creative to include Ogg Vorbis support in one of their next firmware releases of their digital players. This is very important for two reasons: 1) Creative is a big company. If they include Ogg support in their digital players, other manufacturers will follow the example. 2) This should improve use experience of this class of products for

I've found this email: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2006-July/049923.html it seems, that nobody have answered this question in the last three years (or I haven't found it...), so would that be possible? I mean, could someone official from the Wine dev team contact evenbalance? (if they don't answer, we could still bomb away their emailserver with some

Getting Ruckus to Work (And Internet for that matter)
Hi, I tried installing Ruckus on my Ubuntu (newest version). For those of you not familiar with ruckus, it is like an iTunes thing for College Students which allows us to download music legally. Anyways, once installed, I tried to sign in on it and it said the following: Cannot connect to the Ruckus server: Error: A security error occurred (12175). Please check your firewall settings to verify

Problem with Samba DFS and Active Directory/XP
Hi, Samba version 3.0.28 from RPM samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 on Scientific Linux 5. Although I'm finding this problem with samba 3.0.33 and a few others I've randomly tried. Full experiment here: http://xweb.geos.ed.ac.uk/~fgibbins/DFS-tests.txt I've got an AD joined samba server which exports a share to an AD joined XP machine, same M$ 2003 AD in both cases. This share is

Petition to set warnPartialMatch* options to TRUE during R CMD check by default
Hi all, What it says in the title. This is likely to cause a lot of CRAN packages to fail (I can try and quantify this if seen fit), but I think it's for the best. Packages should not (IMHO) be relying on partial matching in package code / tests. One might be more permissive for vignette/examples code, though I still find it poor practice. Among many reasons why package authors should resist

how can I get the value of a hidden field and pass it
My problem is that I want to pass a date information form one page to another. And that information came to my page in an Ajax petition. My idea to accomplish this is that the date can come in the Ajax response as a hidden field and when I click a link I can get that hidden field value and pass it to the action in rails as a param. I have done all this. I have the date in a hidden field and I

process for petitioning for more flac hardware support
i was wondering how one would go about approaching hardware manufacturers to support flac. i get the sense that in the case of phatnoise, one of their devs already knew about flac and took the initiative (although if this isn't the case, please correct me). but how would you go about asking say, apple, to add flac support to the ipod? the ipod can already play a number of formats,
