limit number of TCP connections.
Hi all. I have a simple question. Is that a way to limit the number os TCP or UDP connection of a single HOST in my network?
For exemple:
I have a host with IP 192.168.1.202 and he is using edonkey, Kazaa, and Bittorrent at the same time, and he also is infected by a virus that opens more than 500 TCP ports at the same time. So, i want to limit that host to be able to open no more then 30 TCP

open torrents with utorrent or other?(gnome)
you can in gnome right click and associate a file type to be opened with an application! just right click, properties, open with -> add blah blah blah ...
you know the drill, its not the issue here.
but what I should write as command to prompt gnome to open utorrent, add the torrent file, and do whatever i want?

feature idea
here's an idea for icecast..
the ability to create a relay dynamically
by passing a url to the admin interface.
(instead of having to add to the config file and kill -s HUP)
such relays wouldnt be permanently stored in the config file
(unless icecast starts writing to its config file)
but would function as long as the server stays up,
or until stopped thru the admin interface.

Bugzilla comment
too many UNCO bugs are listed for wine < 1.0 . I suggest purging or archiving the really old ones since they must have been fixed or no-one cares for them atm. Either way they're too confusing!

Is any way to time (measure) the compiling time?
I was compiling wine from latest git, and since wine is so huge, it takes awfully lot of time, around 20mins or so. Not that im complaining, but it made me wondering how much time my computer needs to compile it and if I could somehow time it. - I could use a timer, but that beats the reason i own a computer in the first place ;)
Surprisingly Google didn't provided with anything useful, so

profile on a remote server
I notice that in the LDAP the profiles are store in a network share. Is it
possible to use a different samba server not setup as a PDC/BDC to share
these profile. for an example maybe setup a little samba box on a remote
site, that stores profiles and home dirs, but still auth against the PDC.
wouldnt that help keep network traffic on the WAN down?

xm, no such domain error code...
Right now xm will return 1 if you run `xm list non_existant_domain`
Wouldnt it be a better idea to have a specific error code for this error so
that scripts wrapping around xm can better determine if the domain does not
exist or if xm just failed for whatever reason?

rsync backup to fileserver - mystery
I have an Intel SS4000E fileserver that I've been using for several years to backup my home directory to.
I have a daily cron job that runs the following command:
rsync -av --delete /home/frankcox/ /mnt/fileserver/backup
I have a directory named misc/sheet-music/classical. About a week ago I created a new subdirectory there, /home/frankcox/misc/sheet-music-classical/Russian\ and\ Eastern\

Ruby app to rails?
Hi.
Im am considering porting an c++ application to Ruby, and me company
would also like to have an web-version of this particular application.
If say there is an XML validator in the app. Then can Ruby and RoR share
this in an easy way, so i wouldnt have to maintain 2 branches of the
same XML validator.
Best Regards.

what to do in worst case scenario: samba pdc not available
Hi,
my question no really concerns 100% to Samba but since I use Samba ...
I use Samba 3.0.13 as an PDC and have about 40 WinXp Pro Clients.
I was wondering what happens if the WinXP Pro Clients won?t have any
connection to the Samba Server anymore. Maybye due an error in the
network or the PDC died for some reason.
Is there any way to quickly change the clients profile to a local
profile? I

Is it possible to dial an automated message when Asterisk receives an email?
Hello.
I have a server that sends a preformatted email when an event occur. What I
need is that when Asterisk receives this email automatically dial a
pre-recorded message. It doesn't have to dial ride away, maybe a scheduled
cron job will be enough.
Is that possible? Any hint? What should I be looking for?
Thanks, and sorry for my lousy English

Usage of 'no' as external helper
libguestfs and supermin use 'no' instead of either the basename of the
desired application, or 'false', as helper string. This happens when
configure does not find things like rpm or supermin during build.
Wouldnt it be more logical to use the basename instead of 'no' so that
at runtime one has the chance to install the required packages and in
addition get an obvious

Is it possible to access maildir w/ 2 clients at the same time?
Hi,
I have dovecot with Maildir installed and running. No problems.
I use kmail on both desktop and laptop with cachedimap configuration.
kmail is configured to look for new mail every two minutes.
Now my question:
When both maschines are running and kmail is started then two clients access the same Maildir
on the server at the same time. Is this possible or can this corrupt the Maildir

RFE: using rsync as a backup tool (preserve access time & compres s destination files) ?
Hi,
I know those questions have been asked before
but that was more than an year ago.
I'm hoping the situation has evolved now.
I'd like to use rsync as a backup tool
to move around some data.
I often have to move hundreds of GB,
and that takes some time. I'd like to use rsync
so that if something happens, I can restart
the migration without loosing what has already been
