Hi all I want to post to the wine-users forum when I'm booted into Ubuntu Linux (because I do all my email posts when I'm in Windows) but the forum will not let me log on using my mailing list credentials (i.e the email address above and my password). If I try and subscribe from Forum Home using these credentials I just get told I'm already a subscriber. What can I do to get the

Alexandre says "let the newbies run as root
But I don't want to run it as root. When running as user I get the error message. Whether I use yast, yum or su and then exiting su before starting the it's the same. And now I get told that I am running as root [Rolling Eyes] I guess I will have to wait for Suse 11. I do not want to change settings to please a software because I can never be sure that it won't mess with the rest (do

Wine trying to run everything from \\windows\\system32
Okay, I'm a complete newb... but I don't think this is the way things should be happening. I've installed Wine 1.0 (and uninstalled and tried 0.96... same problem) on Ubuntu 8.04 and I'm trying to install Dreamweaver 8. By all accounts, this should be a simple double-click on the exe, but nothing happens. Running the install from terminal results in: Code: wine: could not load

Bug 13517: Forums breaking mailing list
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 Is Wine going to have to lose even more experienced users over a stupid bug? Does WineHQ really value new users over those who have the knowledge and are willing to help? Let's move towards resolution on this and consolidate on Google Groups already, before it's too late. -- Paul Johnson baloo at ursine.ca -------------- next part

how to share wine programs between users?
Hi, I installed Office 2007 under my account, but mostly it is my wife that needs to use it. I hadn't realized that installs apply only to the particular user account. Isn't there a way to install software such that wine can use it for any user on the system? I tried moving my .wine directory to /home/.wine and then symlinking ~/.wine, but that only works for me... if I try it under my

Wine with writeitnow
Hello, Currently I'm moving over to linux. I got fedora core 7, and I've been running it on a virtual machine. There is one piece of software I can't live without. It's called writeitnow: http://www.ravensheadservices.com/ Wine is installed on my box. When I run the application I get the following error message: "The Java(TM) VM could not be started. does WINE run on MAC OS and OpenVMS
Hi all, I have two queries regarding WINE. 1) Is there support for VMS(OpenVMS) and MAC OS in WINE. I mean that can I install/build WINE over OpenVMS OS and MAC OS. 2) I have heard that WINE doesnot have support for WIN64 bit API's. Is this true that I cannot port WIN64 applications via WINE on Linux 64 bit. If this is possible for anyone among you then plz list the name of all the OS where

RFC: Potential idea to consolidate forums and lists
I'm making a request for comments in an effort to bring a minor but nagging bug to some kind of multilaterally-beneficial conclusion, and deliberately held off until after the 1.0 release in case this turns out to be a bigger deal than originally anticipated. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 The first proposed suggestion is that a more consistent method for handling the

Wine slowing up games on each release?
Hello! Now i'm using Wine since 2 years and i always played GTA San Andreas with Wine, together with other games. Every Wine version is getting better and better and i saw a lot of games working simply by waiting it was implemented... Wine is now IMO becoming good for new games, they are more and more supported, less things to patch... But games are working, but getting slower and slower! A

Batch file
Just a clarification. A batch file (*.bat) is an executable. I will be installing a mod for WoW that needs to run a batch file after the normal install to complete the installation (if I'm reading it correctly). I am positive that running it with Wine should work just fine, but I wanted to ask first just in case there is an issue with batch files I haven't heard about. The mod is

Any experience with old Half Life CDs?
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience loading Half Life using old HL CDs instead of Steam. I have two old CDs - one form 1998 and one from 2000. I tried installing from the 2000 CD and it installed OK but when I tried to do the update from within the game it complained about lack of Internet access. When I start the game I get a black screen before the menu, and when I choose the New Game
