Wine trying to run everything from \\windows\\system32
Okay, I'm a complete newb... but I don't think this is the way things should be happening. I've installed Wine 1.0 (and uninstalled and tried 0.96... same problem) on Ubuntu 8.04 and I'm trying to install Dreamweaver 8. By all accounts, this should be a simple double-click on the exe, but nothing happens. Running the install from terminal results in: Code: wine: could not load

does WINE run on MAC OS and OpenVMS
Hi all, I have two queries regarding WINE. 1) Is there support for VMS(OpenVMS) and MAC OS in WINE. I mean that can I install/build WINE over OpenVMS OS and MAC OS. 2) I have heard that WINE doesnot have support for WIN64 bit API's. Is this true that I cannot port WIN64 applications via WINE on Linux 64 bit. If this is possible for anyone among you then plz list the name of all the OS where

how to share wine programs between users?
Hi, I installed Office 2007 under my account, but mostly it is my wife that needs to use it. I hadn't realized that installs apply only to the particular user account. Isn't there a way to install software such that wine can use it for any user on the system? I tried moving my .wine directory to /home/.wine and then symlinking ~/.wine, but that only works for me... if I try it under my

Usefull dll overrides
I've been trying to get a game running that is sooo close, but just not there, and I see from the Office 2007 thread that other people are pretty much shooting in the dark about which dll overrides are useful for different things too. I was wondering if we could gather the different overrides that work for different apps and put them in one place, maybe make it sticky? Maybe we need one

If you think getting Windows games working in Wine is hard ...
... try getting old Linux binaries to work in a current Linux. It's actually harder. http://secretlondon.livejournal.com/447659.html (Windows is all about binary compatibility, but Linux is expressly not - it's all about *source* compatibility. So old programs are more likely to work by running the Windows version in Wine.) - d.

Bug 13517: Forums breaking mailing list
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 Is Wine going to have to lose even more experienced users over a stupid bug? Does WineHQ really value new users over those who have the knowledge and are willing to help? Let's move towards resolution on this and consolidate on Google Groups already, before it's too late. -- Paul Johnson baloo at ursine.ca -------------- next part

RFC: Potential idea to consolidate forums and lists
I'm making a request for comments in an effort to bring a minor but nagging bug to some kind of multilaterally-beneficial conclusion, and deliberately held off until after the 1.0 release in case this turns out to be a bigger deal than originally anticipated. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13517 The first proposed suggestion is that a more consistent method for handling the
