That age old Midi issue again
I can run most midi apps in wine through timidity with no problem but there are quite a few apps which don't allow you to assign the midi output to timidity such as Media Player Classic or WM player 6. They try to use the windows default which is of course MS synth or Emu10k1.
There must be a way of mapping the midi output in wine from such apps to timidity but I just can't get it to

Applications start with title bar grayed
When I try to start notepad, it starts with a grayed title bar,
like it wasnt active. I cant enter text into the input window.
Strange thing, menus work.
To get it look like active and type text, I must select the system menu
and "About wine".
After closing the new window (that has appeared as active), i see that
notepad appears
active and I can enter text.
Has someone this issue ?

WINE ALSA MIDI
Hello,
I am having trouble with wine and midi, and also the new winecfg vs
config file setup.
I have looked through old emails faqs etc and on frank's corner but
nothing seems to be able to get the midi output out of wine and onwards
towards my soundcard. The program I am having trouble with is called
Power tab. I am running 'timidity -iA' with a GM soundfont and confirm

Band in a Box 2008 with Ubuntu through wine?
I am really getting into my new Ubuntu Hardy Heron software but wondered if any music lovers amongst you could give me some advice? I heavily use Band in a Box 2008 on the XP side of my machine and have tried to install it, through the wine emulator so I can use it in Ubuntu. I could then, more or less, abandon the XP side on a 90% basic. Something I would very much like to do. Unfortunately BB

Using Linux Virtual Midi with WINE does not work
Hi,
I have recently started using WINE with the wineasio driver to run my Windows audio apps. In Windows I did a lot of work using MIDI Yoke (a virtual 'MIDI cable' driver). The Linux equivalent is the snd-virmidi ALSA driver. I find, however, that WINE does not send MIDI messages throught the virmidi ports to Linux Apps.
I have tried this on Ubuntu 8.04 and Puppy Linux 4.0 using WINE

No MIDI devices in wine
I'd want to run the windows editor for my guitar preamp (VOX Tonelab SE)
which is connected to the MIDI in and out sockets of my soundcard. The
program installs and starts without any problems under wine but it can't
find any MIDI ports.
MIDI works fine otherwise in Linux - I can read from and write to the
sockets with arecordmidi and aplaymidi, but there are no MIDI devices
visible

ALSA and MIDI
Can anyone help me get MIDI working with Wine please? I'm on
wine-20050628, which I installed with the ./tools/wineinstall script.
It's a pure wine installation. (I have a Windows ME partition, but I'm
not using it.)
I'm using ALSA with Linux 2.6.x. I installed Band in a Box - according
to the application DB this works under wine, and indeed, it does load
and display the main

use of ogg midi to control lighting desk
Hi- i'm kinda busy doing other stuff at college to read through the mailing list properly, but i read somewhere before that midi data embeded in ogg vorbis files could be used to control lighting stuff.
The lighting desk at college has a midi input to control most of the lighting functions. Its also right next to the sound desk.
So i was wondering, if it is possible to stick midi data into

MIDI on a VM
I have an application (Frescobaldi/Lilypond) that generates and plays
MIDI files. Due to problems with flatpak I can only run it on C8 or
Fedora, both of which live on VMs. The host is running C7. I've tried
"adding hardware", specifically a virtual sound card, to the VMs, but
still they remain silent. How do I connect the virtual sound cards to
the physical sound card so that I

/* Check for midi header in logical stream */
Hello List,
as an long time macintosh user , musican/producer/programmer , i am very
upset that another great technology (DSS ) vanished because of http
streaming so i turned my interest towards icecast, whitch seems an
fantastic and evolved media streaming server.
I am very interested in Midi, especialy the possibility to *sync Audio with
Midi*.
So my question , would it be possible to stream a

Kontakt doesn't respond to Akai USB MIDI Keyboard
Ubuntu 10.4, Wine 1.1.42, Native Instruments Kontakt 4, Akai MPK88
I've installed Kontakt (sampled musical instruments). Sound is working OK with the OSS driver, but the program doesn't respond to the USB keyboard. :-
( The keyboard shows up in `winecfg` under "Audio", OSS, MIDI In/Out devices.
I checked the MIDI options for the Kontakt program and it DOES show the Akai

icecast with midi/video
Hi,
I am evaluating icecast for a project that requires video and/or midi data
with the stream.
I am bandwidth limited upto 20Mb/s so icecast would provide a good base to
work from for low bitrate audio streaming.
Ideally I would like to be able to serve data to 20 client devices.
I am considering the tradeoff between streaming video content and
triggering video data with midi events.
Do you

Re: No MIDI devices in wine
Try opening the sound tab in winecfg. It'll create a ALSA-based default configuration for you, which might automatically find the right MIDI channels.
If it doesn't, try using a soft synth solution like timidity or qsynth. I think these automatically pick up on MIDI-supporting sound cards, too, plus extra MIDI channels that will definitely be detected by Wine will be exposed.

oggmerge working, Ogg MIDI is here
Ok guys, I just committed the Ogg MIDI code to ogg-tools/oggmerge.
You can now make synced vorbis+midi Oggs, but there is (not yet anyway)
a tool to play such files.
Have a look at the code, and let me know if you see anything major.
Adding new media types for merging should be trivial, and you already
have two examples (the vorbis one is VERY simple and the MIDI one
is much more complicated)

Ogg MIDI proposal
This is a proposal for Ogg MIDI streams. It will also help other
stream additions to Vorbis, as they should follow a similar model.
Ralph has done much of the work on this, and also is working on MNG
Ogg streams.
Background
----------
I was contracted to do this work, so even if you can't think of a use
for this, there is one ;) Basically with midi in Ogg, we can have

Is there a package to output midi files for sonification of data
Hi, I have been using Matlab to produce midi files for sonfication and
algorithmic composition projects. I would like to transfer that work into R
(in which I am a total newbie) and have been looking for a package that can
read and write midi files. No success so far so does anyone know of one? I
have seen that I can output to csv and then use a utility to convert csv to
midi (and vice-versa). But

There is definitely a spec for doing this: http://wiki.xiph.org/OggMIDI
Granted,
