Random Network Failures
Okay, I've been working with Samba for a few years now, and I've figrued it
out mostly on my own. Now I'm stuck and this problem is slowing down a MAJOR
project in my shop.
Our solid SuSE 7.3 server's network is dying randomly. All services, not
just Samba (2.2.1a) go out. However, it always happens when someone is
accessing DVD projects from our NT 4.0 Spruce authoring

Printing with wine
Ooops, I guess a suject will get some of you to read this, hey?
Hi All,
Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through
a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if
you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it
doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the

I've been running the Wine package in Debian/Woody for quite a while

Hi,
is it possible to use "encrypt passwords=yes" in the main server
configuration and "encrypt passwords=no" in the virtual server
configuration?
My current smb.conf looks like this:

netbios name = AG-pc101-Server
server string = PC101-Server

Error log
I'm trying to get our legacy Microfocus Cobol database interface to work on
a Linux box. I'm using WINE 20021007 built from source on Mandrake 8.2
(after removing default WINE install) I've fixed several problems in my
config file, and imported some dll's that were missing. I can get to the
login screen, but when I try to go any farther into the program I get this:

cut and paste problem
Dear all,
I am new to wine and try to use it to replace vmware for
word/powerpoint applications. The first problem that I encounter is
that I am unable to cut and paste under all the applications
(notepad/word/powerpoint).
It seems that the issue is related to the clipboard behavior because
when I cut (under notepad) I get an error message stating: "Empty clipboard".
Which is kind of

Samba and netgroups in LDAP
Hello,
Has anyone got netgroups working with Samba 3.0.14a where the netgroups
are stored in the LDAP directory? I'm using Solaris 9 and SUN's
directory server v5.2.
What I'm seeing is that samba goes through the motions of looking up a
host in a netgroup, but no query is seen by the LDAP server or on the
network and the host is never found in the netgroup.
Any help would be

Drop down slowness on mapped drives
Hello,
We have a Windows 2000 Network with a few FreeBSD boxes running Samba.
We have a share on one box specifically that we map to everyone's
workstations. Ever since this day the file drop down box in applications
such as word or excel goes incredibly slow. If we remove the drive
mapping, the speed returns to normal. I've searched and browsed
newsgroups and mailing lists and

Running ChildView under Wine 20021031 - Codepage 850?
Hello fellow Wine users:
I'm in the process of moving all our desktops over from Windows 98 to
Linux (via LTSP), and we've got everything aced except for one &*!^* app.
We've run Amicus Attorney underneath wine for some time now, and it
works a treat. However, Childview has proved to be... somewhat more
reluctant.
As far as apps go, it isn't that complicated. It's

XP Pro - Domain Login ... great trauma and sorrow
I really think this is a Windows problem, but since my very good friend Bill refuses to return my calls ...
The client is WinXP Professional
The server is RedHat 7.1 with SAMBA 2.2.2-8
I have rtfm several times both the ENCRYPTION and PDC-Howto, and I think I have implemented all of the requisite registry and passwd/smbpasswd/smb.conf settings.
The client will happily JOIN the domain, but my

Samba with winbind setup but some glitches
Hello there!
After much trial and error, scouring the net and books for samba
setups/faqs/resources, etc - I seem to have Samba setup with winbind more or
less correctly - There seems to be a couple bugs though.
The goal is to have a windows workstation-like Linux box to access the NT
4.0 domain. Logging into the Linux box (physically) with domain user
accounts, accessing domain printers,
